👑 Undercover (Jarley) Pt.2 👑
~~~~~~~~~Third Person POV~~~~~~~~~
The ride to Elinia wasn't too bad; most of it was quiet, which allowed the two to relax, with the occasional Harley complains and teasing that Joel desperately tried to ignore.
The kingdom was beyond beautiful, standing in the middle of Spain, with villages that resembled the Middle Ages. Kingdoms weren't uncommon here, so it would make sense to not know every royal on Earth.
Still, the thought of pretending to be royalty was frightening to Joel, especially since he used to be an actual prince before running away from his kingdom..
But this was his mission, he had to do this.
Once at the palace, a servant led the two to one of the many bedroom. The room itself looked beyond wealthy, with gold trimming around, well, everything! It was decorated in jewels, with a chandelier for its main light source, and two beds; one was bigger than a normal king sized bed, while the the other was a twin sized, tucked in the corner of the room. There were also two doors on the side, which led to the bathroom, and another that led to a balcony.
Once the door was closed and the two boys were inside, Harley took the chance and jumped onto the big bed. "This is the comfiest thing I've ever been on!!"
"You can keep it." Joel replied, taking off their crown and placing it on the nearby dresser. All the attention and high class treatment was.. overwhelming.
They grew up on palace grounds himself, they were the heir to a kingdom, and being on a mission like this only brought back the memories he so desperately tried to push away.
Memories of them.. of her..
To his response, Harley sat up. "What, you're not gonna push me off? Isn't the big bed only worthy for their royal highness?"
"I've never liked big beds." He replied, sitting down on the twin bed.
The redhead scoffed at that. "You're kidding, right? How can you not like this? You're treated like a god here!"
When there was no reply that came from the brunette, Harley rolled his eyes and lied back down. 'Are you really that stuck up that all of this is too little for you?'
While Joel grew up with too much of the material things in life, Harley grew up with with close to nothing, and having so much of things was unbelievable to him, and he couldn't start to understand why the prince felt so annoyed with what they were given.
The streets of New York were nice to no soul, and tragedy struck when the redhead lost his parents at only four. Ever since then, his life has just been misfortune, with him growing up learning to keep high walls all around him.
And when Joel came into his life, his anger only boiled even more.
They came from a rich family, they had power, he were literal royalty! And then he threw it all away? Just because?! What could be so bad that you'd prefer living like he was now over living in a freaking palace?!
Maybe it was jealousy that kept giving him such thoughts, he knew the brunette refused to talk about his past. But c'mon, for a prince, just how bad could it actually be?
"The festival starts tomorrow." He heard the prince say, staring out the window. "We should leave quite early, the sooner we finish this mission the better."
"Whatever you say, your highness."
Joel didn't bother to scold him again for that, they knew he wouldn't listen, so instead he lied on his side and drifted off to a deep sleep.
Just as mentioned, Joel and Harley woke up bright and early -more like Joel forcing Harley to wake up-, and headed out to the festival right after breakfast.
Although he's never been a people person, Harley looked around with pure amazement in his eyes, like a child who entered a toy store for the very first time. The streets were filled with small tents, each selling something different; pastries, ice creams, cookies, small meals, jewelry, clothing, games, they even had a petting zoo.
As for Joel, he couldn't hide the small smile that had crept onto his face. It had been years since they had gone to a royal festival, and it was things like these that did make them miss being royalty. He remembered taking his little brother Adrien to the petting zoo at one of his kingdom's festivals, and seeing him smile in pure joy.
"Your highness!"
"Ah- y-yes?" The brunette grew a little pale at the title, turning to see one of the bakers smiling warmly as they offered some pastries.
"Would you like some cinnamon rolls? Freshly baked!"
"Oh, no thank you, I just had breakfast." He tried his best to brush off the baker without actually offending them.
However, Harley's mouth watered at the sight of the cinnamon rolls, desperate to get one, so Joel continued. "But my squire wouldn't mind getting a few."
"Eh?" Harley paused for a moment, stunned that the brunette had noticed his behavior.
The baker smiled and offered the tray over to the redhead. "Ah, of course, take as many as you like!"
Without hesitation, Harley grabbed a handful, and noticed that Joel had already started walking away. He sprinted forward to catch up, a cinnamon roll in his mouth. "... Why'd chu do tha?"
"I didn't catch that."
Swallowing back the pastry, Harley asked again. "Why did you do that? I could've just asked for one myself."
"You didn't seem like you were going too."
"Shut the fuck up, I was about to-!"
"You shouldn't curse at your prince, my squire."
A low growl escaped the redhead, muttering under his breath. "Asshole.."
However, he grew a bit confused when Joel let out a small snicker, quickly regaining their proper posture. The difference was that he seemed a little more relaxed, and they did just get him some pastries.
Maybe the week wouldn't be so bad after all?
Thanks for reading!!! 'Till next time!!!
