When Life's Get Out of Hand
September 28
2 Kings 19:1-2 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
2 Kings 19:6-7 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
2 Kings 19:14-20 And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD...
WHEN DEEP SORROW, DISTRESS, FEAR AND GRIEF COME
WHEN LIFE GETS OUT OF HAND?
No one would know how distress King Hezekiah was... it would be different to have really seen Him. I bet it was more than just a burden on him.
Everyone's eyes and ears was on him. It may feel like he had the whole world in his shoulders. People were depending on him.
1. Accept your life
Don't complain or murmur.
When circumstances and the people around us don't seem to agree with us... Hezekiah was in deep sorrow yet he didn't complain of the things which God has allowed.
He has certainly felt the pressure and who he was, his position was not his choice... but his reaction to every situation life throws at him was according to his disposal. But he didn't complain about who he was...
How do you do that?
-(by loving) Love your calling
When you love something so much no pain can stand between your calling will ever be greater.
Hezekiah knew he was King.
2. Go before God's presence.
God is near to the brokenhearted.
Twice he had heard bad news yet he always run towards the Lord's house.
The pressure, distress and being in a position of responsibility took Him to the One who has appointed and allowed it to Him.
What brought Him there?
-Faith in God
Hezekiah knew who God is...
and so it brought him down to His knees. He prayed.
3. Believe God's Word
We have read in the gospel believe and it will be yours. The fulfillment of the Word spoken by Isaiah was a sign that Hezekiah believed in it.
Hezekiah knew God's Word and he believed and it came to pass.
Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
How do you believe on the Word of God?
-(by embracing) Embrace the Word of God
Acceptance and valuing it!
Believe what God has spoken to you in your distress it will come to pass.
To God be the glory!
