Like The Shunamite Woman
September 20
2 Kings 4:8-17 'One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat. She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.” One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest. He said to his servant Gehazi, “Tell the woman from Shunem I want to speak to her.” When she appeared, Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’” “No,” she replied, “my family takes good care of me.” Later Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can we do for her?” Gehazi replied, “She doesn’t have a son, and her husband is an old man.” “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her as she stood in the doorway, “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.'
God knows our needs and desires... The Shunamite woman had been married... but since then she and her old husband hasn't been blessed with a child they had hoped for. Though they were wealthy, this didn't made it possible for that blessing they have desired for... only God can make it happen.
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
We all have desired for something we need... let's learn from this unnamed shunamite woman... her name may be unknown to us but not to God.
What pave the way of her blessing was, she was blessing others... especially a man of God... but not just a man of God a holy man of God.
God has place leaders in our lives that has carried and spread the gospel and we are to bless them of things they didn't ask for but you knew they needed... God will open heaven for your need and desire of which no one knew but God knew it all.
Invite and be always in the presence of God.
Elisha was God's representative, she and her family invited him in and made sure they have a room for him.
Be mindful of your leader or pastor. See for yourself their need.
Bless them in ways you knew and can give and never ask for something in return. This is selfless giving.
When we are mindful of what our pastor's or leader's needs and desires, we making God mindful of our needs and desires... and when we act... we are letting God act as well for our good.
Just know that there will be season for our blessings... it took a season of life for the shunamite's child be born. Be patient... God is faithful. Have faith!
To God be the glory
