Part 38
Gracie's POV
I hug my mom and dad.
"I can't believe my little girl is all grown up." My mom wipes away her tears and brings me in for another tight hug.
"Mom, believe it." I try to laugh.
My dad pulls the awkward Lay closer to us. "Zhang Yixing, you've been nothing more than a big distraction to our daughter."
Lay's eyes widens in fear. He fumbles with his words and looks at me for help.
"Haha! I'm just messing with you! Your eyes got so big!" My dad laughs and smacks Lay's back.
Lay awkwardly laughs and nods.
"You've been a very good man to my little girl and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that." My dad says.
"I'm not little anymore, dad." I give him a quick hug. "I'm taller than you."
"Psh, just by a few inches."
Lay smiles. "Thank you. I try my best since she deserves the best."
I turn away and blush.
My mom lightly smacks Lay. "You're making her blush....And me too!"
"Mom!" I yell.
"What? I never blushed in front of my parents before like that. It's cute!"
My dad scoffs. "What are you saying? I never made you blush before?"
Lay and I stand together and back away. We stay still while we watch my parents bicker.
"I made you blush in front of your parents before!" My dad argues. "Remember that one time at the water park, I told you that you looked nice."
My mom shakes her head. "You made me embarrassed."
"How?"
"You pointed to my 2-piece and started giggling like crazy."
"Ok! Mom, Dad, we're going to go to Tao and Julie. See you." I wave to them and kiss their cheeks before leaving.
"Ok, but be back when you're about to go." My dad shouts.
"We will!" I shout back.
"You're parents are very funny." Lay says and laughs. "But your dad scared the crap out of me."
I cover my mouth and giggle. "I know, but you should've seen your face."
Lay groans and puts his arm around my waist. "Don't remind me."
I smile at him and rest my head on his chest.
"Can you believe it? You're my fiancée." Lay says.
"I'm so happy!" I chirp. I turn around and hug him. "I'm really happy!"
"I'm so glad you are. You deserve someone that will love you and care for you. Someone who can make you all warm inside with just a smile."
"And I do. And we're getting married!" I hug him tighter.
Lay stands back and gasps. "You replaced me already!"
"It's you, sweetie! We're getting married!" I smack his chest and hug him again.
"YAH! WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A WEDDING?!" Julie yells as she and Tao make their way to us.
"AND HOW COME WE DIDN'T GET INVITED?!" Tao crosses his arms.
"Tsk, don't act like you don't know." I let go of Lay and walk to her and Tao. "I told you before I told my parents."
"What?! Your own parents and you didn't even tell them first?" My mom holds her hand to her chest like she's hurt. She and Dad walk over too.
"Omma! Don't put it like that! In my defense, you didn't pick up your phone when I called the hotel room." I hold up my hands.
My mom kicks my dad's shin. "You didn't pick up the phone?!"
"Hey, I was busy!"
"Doing what?"
He rubs the back of his head. "I was eating this-"
"YOU WERE EATING!"
"It was this really good chicken. Like MMMPPHHH!"
I cover my face in embarrassment. "Why, dad, why?"
Lilia, Tao, and Lay laugh hysterically.
"I love your dad already, Gracie." Tao kneels over laughing.
My dad kneels over with him and joins him laughing.
"Ugh, another one?" My mom groans and joins Julie. "Hey, Julie."
"Hey, Mama bear."
I look to Lay and pout. "I think we're the only sane ones here."
"I think we are."
