Chapter 1 Moving In
A/N: So this is the one that everyone wanted to read. I hope its not disappointing. (I'm being over critical of myself lately. Ignore me lol) The first two chapters of this book are REALLY short and I'm sorry about that, but this is kind of a test drive to see if people like it or not, I promise the next chapters will be longer. Thank you guys for taking interest in this story! I hope you enjoy, don't forget to comment and let me know how I am doing your feedback helps so much!
I've always had a thing for small towns, most of the time, everyone is friendly, and it's like living in one big family. I grew up in a small town and why I ever left it, I'll never be sure. The city life, just wasn't for me, and that was just one of the things I had discovered recently.
I drove past the Welcome to Storybrooke sign, and sighed in relief. I was home, well, kind of. Home was truly on the other side of the country, but It didn't quite feel right to go back there. I needed something new, A change of scenery does everyone a bit of good. When researching for places to move, this small, ocean side town caught my attention for more than one reason, but the best reason of all, was how safe of a town, the residents claimed it to be and that was something I needed more than anything right now. Safety.
The town seemed relatively quiet as I drove past the square, a few people shuffling around here and there, giving me friendly smiles and waves as I drove by. This was looking like a good start. A fresh start.
"I think this is it Zar." I said to the gray ball of fluff in the cat carrier in the back seat as I came to a large apartment complex just a couple blocks away from town square. I parked the car and looked in the backseat at my cat Balthazar.
"I bet you're ready to be out of there. I'll take you in first so you can check the place out while I unload the car." I smiled and took my seat belt off and got out of the car, opening the back door and pulling out the cat carrier.
"Christ Zar, you weigh a ton." I groaned as I picked up the carrier and walked inside the complex. I reached in my pocket to retrieve the piece of paper I wrote down with my apartment number and the key, the landlord had mailed to me. The outside of the apartments looked good, so I was hoping the inside looked alright. The only thing I had seen was pictures online and who knew how old they were.
"3A." I mumbled and then looked up at the directory on the lobby wall and sighed. Of course it was on the third floor and there didn't appear to be an elevator luckily, I didn't have too many things to bring inside.
Once on my floor, I walked down the hall until I reached my door. I looked at the nameplate on the wall beside it.
A.Baker.
They already had my name up, that was quick. I looked across the hallway, at apartment 3B.
K. Jones. I would have to introduce myself later. If I was starting over, I might as well try and make some new friends, and it just seemed easier to start with the neighbor.
I unlocked my door and opened it looking around, It was a small, fully furnished, cozy little one bedroom apartment, and it was mine. I closed the door and put the cat carrier down and then sighed.
"Sorry Zar, you're going to have to stay in there for a few more minutes until I get your box and food in here. I don't know how Mr. Gold feels about cats as is, don't want you messing on the floor." I said and left the apartment again to go get his things.
Once Balthazar was settled into the apartment and exploring I began bringing what little I had of my things. Everything I could bring, last minute.
The last box was particularly heavy and after carrying it up three flights of stairs I was beginning to get Jelly legged, but I didn't want to stop. I could barely see in front of me over the box, and all of a sudden I stepped on an untied shoestring, and tripped, launching the box at two unsuspecting lovebirds in the hallway.
I cringed at the sound of the box crashing, and what sounded like glass breaking.
"Ow! Bloody hell!" The man in the hallway shouted.
"I'm so sorry!" I apologized and crawled across the floor to the box picking up the items that spilled out of it, I frowned when I saw the item that had broke. It was a glass figure of a tiger that my grandfather had given me. My eyes welled a little but I refused to cry in front of complete strangers.
"You should be." The man said catching me off guard. I looked up at him, his blue eyes were angry and his scruffy jaw was clenched, twitching. His dark hair was a mess, from his date who was previously tangling her fingers in it.
"I'm..I'm sorry what?" I asked completely thrown off by his angry tone. It was an accident.
"You should be sorry, Why don't you watch where you are going? You almost hit her." He said and pulled his date to him protectively Glaring at me like I was a total monster.
"..I'm sorry I didn't mea-"
The man pushed the box across the hall towards my apartment with his foot, spilling more of my things on the floor. I stood up and brushed myself off and glared at him.
"Hey! Be Careful with that!" I shouted. "I said I was sorry!"
The man rolled his eyes.
"Try not to assault me with anymore boxes." He scoffed and took his dates hand leading her towards his apartment which just so happened to be across from mine.
Wonderful.
"Yeah, Well if you and your Date weren't standing in the middle of the damn hallway dry humping each other that wouldn't have been a problem!" I shouted as he and the woman he was with walked into his apartment and he slammed the door.
I sighed and bent down to pick up my things that had spilled from the box, before I picked up the box and took it inside slamming my own door shut with my foot. I put the broken glass figurine of the tiger on the counter and frowned. I would have to try and fix it in the morning, for now, I was exhausted.
I unpacked a little of my things so I could make some tea, and relax. I was too upset, and frazzled from the move, and then the run in with my lovely new neighbor, to even think about eating. I curled up on my couch with my tea and Balthazar jumped up beside me and curled in the bend of me knees making himself comfortable. I wasn't so sure of this whole moving thing anymore. Maybe it wasn't the best idea.
No. It had to be done. I told myself and sipped at my tea thinking, I may not have been sure of a lot at the moment, but I was sure of one thing. My Neighbor, Jones in 3B was a complete and total asshole.
