October 17th, 9:30am
The bell rang loudly and everyone jumped up, all too ready to head to the next class. The teacher shouted out what the homework was but no one payed her mind as they pushed and shoved their way through the door. I gathered my items slowly and walked to the doorway, waiting for all the pushers and shovers to be as far away from the door as possible before heading out and towards my locker. That's when I ran into someone. I was stunned because I was usually so careful about it. I silently hoped I wouldn't be yelled at and that I seemed like a freshman or something.
"Sorry, Rein." Came a quiet voice, that sounded quite pleasant to me. I opened one eye then the other and stared at the person I ran into. Apparently I had crashed right into Lance White when he had been walking by me. Why did Lance seem to be everywhere all of a sudden?!
"I-it was my fault..." I stuttered out, realizing I had stared a bit too long. Lance opened his mouth to say something when a loud booming voice came from a bit farther down the hall,
"Ha ha! You caught her Lance!" I felt the color drain from my face and my blood turn icy. Jason was running down the hall, flanked by Johnny and Ezra. Lance stiffened and grabbed my shoulder, startling me out of my detached trance,
"Run... Now!" He whispered with a hiss and pushed me a bit to the side and I nodded, turning on my heels and bolting, listening my breathing, heavy and loud in my ears while I wondered, why did Lance help me? Jason is his best friend...
I reached class soon enough, darting in and sitting heavily at my desk, sinking down a bit with a sigh. That would've been really bad if they caught me this time. Luckily Lance made me run, I was practically frozen to the spot. That's what I get for talking to a boy.
The class started soon enough, but Lance came to class late, now wearing a zipped up coat and sucking his lip into his mouth. It wasn't very obvious but i could notice it instantly, as I had done it before. The consequences for helping me get away were a split lip, and probably many bruises. I winced, silently thanking Lance for taking the blows for me. My bones would've broken from such blows probably. I took out a blue pen and started writing on a piece of paper I had ripped out of my journal, saying thank you for helping me run away and all that. I folded it up and started walking towards Lance's desk, but he was the only one who looked at me when I came closer. I slid the note into his desk with a small meek smile before heading back to my own. When I looked back, Lance was done reading the note and was grinning brightly. I could see his slightly bleeding cut as he did but he didn't seem to mind. He just looked happy that I thanked him.
