I hadn't got chased at lunch, and I hadn't seen either the cheerleaders of the football team chasing me since school ended. So I headed to my locker in peace, opening it and stepping back, dodging the thumb tacks that tumbled out before putting them in the container as well.
"That would've hurt if you stepped on this one." Came a familiar voice as the person leaned down and picked up a remaining tack from just behind my heal. Lance again. He was practically everywhere...!
"Yep..." I mumbled before packing my books and pencils into my backpack before closing and locking my locker and slinging the bag over my shoulder, looking at Lance who was smiling just like he did in class today,
"It was no problem by the way, I just didn't want you to get hurt again." He said in his cheerful way. I frowned slightly, realizing that I had only noticed him helping me out since the vehicle hit me... Did that mean he saw other times? I thought silently before realizing I was giving him a odd stare and looked away, turning on my heels and started walking away before Lance caught my arm, turning me back around before looking embarrassed,
"I just wanted to also say... Can we be friends?... I just thought you might want one since..." He didn't have to finish. I put on my most steely look and frowned,
"I don't need one." I knew I was being stupid and I should've said yes and been nice, but I didn't want him assuming I wanted to be friends with him since I had none. Every fiber of my being began to scream at me saying he wanted to be my friend, but my brain ignored it, starting to walk off again when Lance handed me a piece of paper. I stared in surprise.
"Uh-! If you change your mind, here's my number!" He said quickly and hurried off, obviously hurt by my cruel statement. I felt the heat rush to my face in shame but I just headed on my way anyways, pulling out my phone and adding his number to the contacts list. After all, he was probably the one who got the football players to stop hunting me today, and that in turn stopped the cheerleaders. I sighed, knowing i'd have to apologize and thank him again.
