Lia stood up, with confidence in her steps, though on the inside she was terrified and not ready for the day to start. Her room was moved up to the attic ever since her step-mother and her step-twin brothers moved in. She climbed down from the ladder, leading up to the attic. She could hear the creaking screams as she descended from her room, she did not enjoy these sounds, they made her feel threatened or not safe.

She sat down at the table with her head hanging low. She looked up to see all of the doughy pancakes, the burnt bacon, and the soupy eggs gone. She sighed as she knew she was not going to get breakfast.

Lia was not the best looking girl. With scrawny legs and arms, she was nothing but flesh and bone. She had long brown hair, nothing special about it, only that it was curly. She never thought of herself as pretty, nor did anyone else.

Her twin step-brothers, Jacob and Jace (pronounced Jake, spelled weird), stared at her. Jacob spoke up first,
"You look weird".
"Yeah, why are you so ugly?" Jace chimed in. Lia looked at them with a smug look on her face,
"Why do you two have to be so annoying?" She snapped at them.
"MOM!" Jacob yelled
"LIA IS BULLYING US!" Jace yelled afterwards. Then, as if right on cue, Lia's step-mother, Janice, came strutting in wearing her stilettos.
"LIA! Stop picking on your brothers! No dinner for you!" Janice said as she kissed Jace and Jacob's heads and walking out of the door to go to work.
"Not like I was going to get any in the first place" she said under her breath.

As she climbed back up the worn latter to her bedroom, she felt her head bang. With each step, her sudden headache grew its intensity.

After her head was banging the ringing of the aged latter stayed in her head. She thought the headache was because she didn't have any breakfast, but she was wrong..........
