Chapter 29 - With Your Stuttering?

A chotisi suggestion- pichla part padhlo ek baari😗

Drishti's POV

Sitting in one of the royal carriages, I felt like we were climbing a hill. Mr. Shergill was sitting beside me, immersed in his thoughts, goggling at a piece of paper and I was getting bored.

Not that I wanted him to pay all his attention to me, but at least we could talk.

With your stuttering?

I peeked out of the glass window solely to see my reflection since it was all dark outside and we had a lamp-lit inside.

I sighed deeply and turned to the other side as I felt his eye on me.

"Are you getting bored?" He questioned still looking at that paper with his spectacles on as I turned to him.

"No...I am not."

" You sure?" He looked at me once and again resumed looking at that paper.

What's so fascinating in that paper there?

"Yeah." I almost whispered as the carriage came to halt.

He kept that paper safely in his briefcase and kept his spectacles inside a case. He climbed down the carriage and arrived via the other side, opening the door on my side.

Passing a small smile to me, he held out his hand requesting me to climb down.

I glimpsed at him once and placing my hand on his, I clambered down and we began stepping inside someplace.

I felt a current passing down my spine as he positioned his hand on my shoulder.

I looked at him and he continued to snub my looks, trying his best not to smile.

Well, his expressions were like that, not that I was assuming things.

Yeah.

We walked some distance until we reached a gorgeous and calm place, that was undoubtedly at the head of a hill. I could see the entire city blistering in pale yellow lights.

As I turned around I saw the arrangements for our dinner on the table.

Two candles were lit up with a bouquet of fresh stunning flowers. A bottle of something and two dishes were faultlessly set up.

Well, it was getting more challenging to adjust.

He passed me a smile and strode forward dragging me by my hand.

He stood in front of the table and held me with both my hands in his.

"Mm... Drishti... I know...I mean.., I can understand, in the circumstances that we got married, it's difficult for you to adjust to everything in here.. so.." He stopped and looked at me as my grasp on his hands constricted. And with a broad smile on his face, he resumed.

Not that I was reacting to any of his actions, I did that because I sensed as if I was losing my balance because of the wedge heels.

Inner voice - And I trust you!

"So, I want you to at least try, to be free and frank when you are with me. Share your problems with me. Trust me, I won't let you face them alone."

His tone was gentle. It felt as if I got someone whom I had lost in the past. I passed him a short-lived smile and nodded at him.

And then it became all awkward. I scrutinized here and there expecting he would leave my hands, but he took a step in my direction making my heart lose its command and beat unrhythmically.

As I examined him, he was opening and closing his mouth, maybe he wanted to convey something.

He looked and me and began rubbing his thumb over my hands.

If not for his support, I would have been on the ground by now. His actions were driving me into a lunatic.

"I...I don't know where this relationship is going to end, but we at least have the chance to start beautifully." And he left my hands with a hasty jerk.

"And I want to start with being friends. Because I believe, friends are like stars. We may not always see them, but they are always there." He sighed looking at me with a serious expression and averted his gazes.

"So, friends?" He asked with a grin forwarding his hand.

I felt a point in the belief he exemplified.

I looked at him once and then at his hand. He had that different spark in his eyes.

I gave him a smile and set my hand on his.

The grin on his face widened and he shook my hand severely. I glanced at him and he acknowledged that within a flash.

"Eh..so..sorry, actually I got excited..so."

"That's ok." I forced a smile at him and It became awkward again.

"Let's have dinner." He said moving towards the perfectly set-up table to avoid all the awkwardness.

He drew out a chair and sat on that requesting me to have a seat too.

I passed him a smile and sat opposite him.

The menu was vast and the food was too pleasing. He kept on chatting even when he was coughing between every alternate bite, telling me funny stories about his friends.

He also told me that Divya met him on the day of the wedding and she asked him to take care of me.

I looked at him once because in the letter divi told me that she threatened him. He gave me a smile and poured the brown liquid into the glasses as we were finished with our dinner.

He passed me one of the glasses and held his glass up in the air.

"Cheers?" He asked with a grin on his face looking at me.

I held my glass up and hit it with his, whispering a short 'cheers' .

He smiled widely and took a sip of that liquid.

Ok, wait.

What is this liquid? It smells like cherries and berries.

I peeked at Mr. Shergill who had one hand on the bottle of this liquid and the glass was held in his other hand, his eyes examining me raising my nervousness.

"What happened?" He asked deviating his gazes between me and the glass.

" Eh..mhm.. Mr. Shergill." And that almost came out as a whisper.

"Why are you hesitating? You've agreed you'll be free with me." He said putting his glass away.

How am I expected to question him what this idiotic drink is called?

"C'mon Drishti." I looked at him once and averted my gazes.

"Wh...what ..eh..what is this brown liquid known as?" I spoke as quickly as I could and shut my eyes in embarrassment.

He must have been definitely calling me stupid in his mind.

Wait.

Why do I care what he assumes about me?

I opened my eyes and looked at him slowly who was smiling widely.

"It's wine. You don't drink wine?" He stated grabbing hold of his glass.

I nodded my head a no and I could hear him chuckle.

"I think you should give it a try. You may enjoy it." He said with a smile and forwarded the glass in my direction.

I nodded at him and sighed heavily as I caught hold of my glass.

I looked at him who nodded at me and gulped down the brownish liquid down my throat.

And after some time, trust me, I could see the stars.
