Twelve Apprentices
Our story begins many years ago-
"Many as in twenty, or many as in a million?" Adrien asked.
"Yes," Fleur answered.
*ahem*
Our story begins many years ago, when there was a powerful magician. His duties were of utmost importance, as he was the one who had the power to create small, helpful beings known as Pixls. The world had been divided into many different groups and kingdoms, but this magician was separate from all these groups. He didn't align himself with light OR dark magic but instead focused on his own unique abilities.
This powerful magician's name was Caleb. While he hoped to live a relatively humble life, many knew of him for his unique skills and abilities. However, he refused every hopeful young mage who tried to approach him and ask for his guidance. He was very selective with who he'd share his unique powers, despite hundreds of travelers coming to him. He knew the danger that came with his unique abilities, so he chose to live in a far-off land, miles away from any other kingdoms that might want to utilize his powers.
While he didn't share his unique talents with many, he did share them with his twelve apprentices; his own beautiful, healthy children whom he loved and cherished with all his heart.
The world was still young. No paths had been paved, no legends had been created. There was so much undecided, so much freedom. The future was not yet set in stone, but Caleb could tell that his twelve children were going to be key players in the future of the world.
Caleb's eldest son was called Clint. He often considered himself the leader of his family. His bright blonde hair was both coarse and bristly, not that he minded. He often covered it with a brown broad-brimmed hat. His eyes were a flaming orange color, as was his skin. He often wore heeled boots to match his hat, and his cloak was the color of the sunset. While he wasn't the brightest of the siblings, he certainly thought he was, as he was often the first one to speak up and share his opinions. His pixl companion, slim, was nothing more than a tool to him. Clint was incredibly skilled when it came to flipping between dimensions and teleporting, though he couldn't teleport large groups of people. Just himself and his pixl.
The second eldest, Jaq, had a much softer, gentler appearance. Though his voice was significantly harsher. He spoke with a thick French accent, which often would clash with Clint's heavy Western accent. The two would often argue over whose voice was more soothing. (Both their voices were equally annoying.) Jaq wore a green cloak and a matching green beret. His eyes were a teal-ish green color as well. During his free time, he and his Pixl Thudley would go taste-testing. There was nothing Jaq loved more than exquisite food. His skin was significantly more pale than Clint's, to the point where he almost looked human. His abilities included being able to sense any food within a twenty-mile radius. Clint would often make fun of him and call him a dog because Jaq used his sense of smell to do this. If you can't tell, the two didn't exactly get along.
Shyama was the next in line. She was Caleb's only daughter. Being the second smallest often made her seem weak at first glance, but her brothers learned not to judge her by appearances. Though she was quite frail and often got sick, she was one of the most powerful siblings. She could cast shadows and utilize any inch of darkness surrounding her. Not that she was evil by any means. In fact, most of the time she used her shadows to make small shadow puppets for Benjamin. She was quite frail and thin, and her skin was a sickly-blue color, but her hair and eyes glowed like the midday sky. Her Pixl companion was none other than Dottie, who she felt fairly neutral about. She didn't use her Pixl often because she didn't want her brothers to think she needed any help. She could survive on her own just fine. Her cloak was a deep lilac color.
The fourth oldest child was Jahmar, who could only be described as an arsonist. His powers weren't just fire-related specifically, but all kinds of explosives. His pixl, Boomer, was less of a Pixl to him and more of a buddy to go blow stuff up with. While he wasn't as close to most of his siblings, he was particularly fond of Benjamin. He often wore a beanie over his dark blue locks. His eyes were charcoal black and half of the time his skin would be covered in various burns. His cloak was the same blood-red color as his beanie.
Child number five was Theo. Theo and his Pixl Thoreau. Now, Jaq would often say that green was his color, but it was really Theo's color. Theo's hair and eyes were forest green, and his skin was only a few shades lighter. His cloak matched his eyes, and his powers involved creating plant life. However, Theo always allowed Jaq to claim the color green on account of his being extremely shy. He liked his pixl. His pixl liked him. But they never really clicked. Theo didn't click with a lot of people. Aside from Benjamin, of course.
Then there was Andre. He was what most people would refer to as "a chill guy." He wore sunglasses all the time, even when it wasn't sunny. His jet-black hair was always gelled back. He would also often wear a leather jacket instead of his official black cloak. His skin was slightly more tanned than Jaq's, but he too looked fairly human as well. Only one of his siblings actually knew what his powers were due to the fact that he usually kept quiet about them. He was always quiet and quick to shrug questions off. Not in a rude way, but in a calm way. The only person he ever really talked to was Benjamin, and there was no way in the world Benjamin would ever share any of his secrets, no matter how hard Andre's siblings tried to make him. He didn't use Barry, his pixl, very often. In fact, most times Barry wouldn't even follow him around. No one really knew why.
Jean was child number seven. His hair was a mixture of yellow and lime green. His eyes resembled autumn leaves and his skin was golden like the sun. His powers allowed him to move and think at incredible speeds. The powers would be useful if he had a brain to go with them, but his own stupidity never bothered him. He never cared that he was the only sibling who couldn't read or write. His father tried teaching him, but he simply couldn't make the connections in his mind between the symbols and the meanings behind them. He particularly looked up to his brother Jaq, so much so that he made his own red baret and would often try to copy Jaq's French accent. His pixl was Dashell, who he often would forget even existed.
The eighth apprentice was none other than Seymour. Seymour, like Andre, was more of a loner. He had neon-orange hair that he covered with a black fedora. His eyes were a neon pink color as well. His entire body practically glowed, which he hated. His powers, (which he hated as well) were that he could fly and he didn't need oxygen to live. He absolutely HATED Fleep, his pixl. Not that he ever expressed this. In fact, Fleep thought that Seymour loved him. Every time Seymour tried to get rid of the pixl, it would always come back. Annoying, right?
Cedric liked the saxophone. All the saxophones. He could play every single one, ranging from soprano to baritone. His skin and hair were ghostly white, as was his cloak. His eyes were incredibly light as well, so he had a difficult time seeing in the sunlight, meaning he wore sunglasses almost all the time. (But unlike Andre, he wasn't just wearing them to be cool.) Cedric and his pixl Piccolo would start making songs all the time. He felt fairly neutral about Piccolo. She wasn't his friend, but he didn't hate her by any means either. He had healing powers, which his siblings made him use constantly. He wasn't the best at controlling his magic, though. More often than not, he would just make things worse.
Rhe was the third youngest. His skin was a faded maroon color, as were his eyes. His hair was naturally black, but he would change the color on almost a weekly basis. He was fairly artistic. In fact, his powers involved making artwork come to life. This included paintings, drawings, origami, anything really! With a pencil and a dream, there was nothing Rhe couldn't accomplish. Well, almost nothing. Rhe and Cudge, his pixl, weren't exactly on the best terms. In fact, whatever he made, Cudge was fairly quick to "accidentally" destroy. His cloak was maroon as well, just like his eyes.
Then there was Dimentio. The second youngest. Dimentio was the purple-cloaked prodigy. The one his father clearly loved the most. He was quick, clever, and powerful. Everything his father could ever want in an apprentice. He and his tattle pixl, Trivia, got along splendidly. They weren't friends, because it would be weird to befriend a pixl, but they were still close. His powers, while a little odd, would often grab his father's attention in a positive way. He could fly, he could form attacks, he could teleport, he could do almost anything. But the most unique of his powers were his dreams. Whenever he closed his eyes, he would be met with dozens of strange visions. Prophecies, he would like to call them. Caleb spent by far the most time with Dimentio, not only because he was the most powerful, but because he loved him the most. Caleb wasn't even shy about showing his unbalanced affection.
Still, Dimentio wasn't everyone's favorite. The rest of the siblings sent their love toward the youngest child. A fifteen-year-old boy named Benjamin. Benjamin was the baby of the family. Powerless, meek, yet bright and sweet. He wore a deep blue cloak that seemed to contrast with his messy red hair and his freckled and sunkissed skin. His eyes were deep-sea blue and his smile glowed like sea pearls. He loved all his siblings more than anything. He especially loved his pixl, Carrie. In fact, he was the only apprentice who truly loved his pixl and thought of her as an equal. He would talk to her for hours on end and treat her just as he treated his siblings, with kindness and excitement. It was his adorable innocence that made most of his siblings so protective over him. Sure, his siblings would occasionally tease him for being so small, but he thought the best of all of them.
Caleb took care of all his children on his own while also teaching them his craft. It was difficult to divide his attention between them all, so oftentimes Jaq or Clint would take over and try to parent the rest of the siblings. Especially when Caleb was focusing on Dimentio. Sometimes it was difficult to live with such a large family, especially when the attention was not evenly distributed, but the family made it work. They occasionally struggled to get by, but would always pull through the cold winters and the overbearing summers. Not wanting to get involved in any of the troubles stirring about in the rest of the world, Caleb prevented any of his children from leaving their safe homelands. He knew of both the Tribe of Ancients and the Tribe of Darkness and wanted nothing to do with the feuds going on between them. On top of that, there were countless kingdoms at war. He saw no reason to explore the rest of the universe. He loved his life and his family, and he had everything he could ever need right in front of him. A perfect world, and a perfect family.
Most importantly, a perfect son. His Dimentio.
