Chapter 78: Denver Comes Home

***

In the morning, Sapphire stretched like a lazy cat to pick up her phone.

"Hello..." Her tired voice muttered.

"What did Jade say? " Zoey asked, arranging some old clothes on the models, in her boutique.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Same meowed.

"Wait, did you two sleep together? Don't tell me that you guys had sex!" Zoey raised her voice over the phone.

"What?" Sapphire lazily pulled herself out of bed. "Oh, shut it! Bye..." She cuts the call and fell back to sleep.

In a twinkle of an eye, Sapphire's sleepy eyes opened as she quickly jumped out of bed, trying to remember what had happened last night.

She knew Jade gave her a bottle of water and she rejected it. But what exactly did they discussed about? She wondered.

"I... definitely feel like we talked about something important." She told herself as she pondered on the thought.

Ding-dong! She heard the doorbell, ring.

Sapphire checked through a screen on her door and saw it was Jade by her doorstep.

"OMG! What should I do?!" She ran to her long, standing mirror and adjusted her tattered hair, bushing through it with her fingers and wiping of her fingers through the corners of her egg-shaped eyes.

Sapphire gently opened the door to him, half way. Seeing her eyes still swollen, Jade couldn't help but to blush.

"Um... W..what is it?" She stammered, timidly.

"Get changed. Let's go and have breakfast." Jade proposed.

"At this time of the day?"

"It's 7:00 a.m already. It's breakfast time." Jade replied her as she gently closed the door with her eyes fixed on his.

"Oh Lord! She haven't even washed her face." Jade scoffed and water for her in his car.

Sapphire took her bath and swiftly go ready. Jade took her to a restaurant down the street as they placed their orders.

"I searched online for a place with good hangover food around here." Jade told Sapphire with his eyes, concentrated on hers. "So tell me, why did you drink so much alcohol last night?"

"I have really high tolerance for alcohol!" Sapphire replied, holding her grumpy stomach that sounded like a pot of boiling soup. "I feel nauseous."

Jade smiled at the fact that he knew she was covering up the truth.

"Yeah, it was clear to me that you can really hold your liquor. But don't ever drink that much again. And especially not with any guys." Sapphire gazed at him as he spoke and there was a line of demand in his voice. Jade leaned forward with eyes like that of a lion's, focused on it's prey. "Thank goodness you weren't with any guy last night."

Sapphire looked away as the waiter brought a try of hot chicken soup and fresh fruits.

"Can your stomach consume things like this!" Sapphire asked with a smile on her lips.

"I'm not a picky eater!" He rolled his eyes at her, grumpily.

"Yes, yes. We all know! You're a tea person and I'm a soup person so... We know that already." Sapphire concentrated on the plate of soup while Jade took a piece of sliced apple.

Later that day, after breakfast, Jade dropped Sapphire off at school.

"Won't you be late?" Sapphire turned to him in concern.

"No, I'm still good on time." He replied her as they shared a stare. Sapphire broke it off by hanging her handbag on her shoulder.

"Um, about what I said last night." Jade tried to remind her. "Do you remember?"

Sapphire glanced at him, dumbfounded.

"No... Was it something important?" She asked confusedly.

"No. You should head in now. You'll be late." Jade muttered as Sapphire walked down his car.

Just then, a call came in from his mum.

"Hello Jadee, come home right away. Her voice sounded so excited over the phone.

Jade wanted to explain to her that he was on his was to work but he had to pay her a visit that morning.

Kate's house was just 30 minutes drive but he got there in no time. The mansion looked big and exquisite, like a castle. Jude rushed into her bedroom immediately and was surprised to see her with someone else.

A guy with piercings and tattoos all over, laying on her laps like her new pet.

"Mum!" Jade greeted as he walked through the door. "Good morning."

"Welcome, my love!" She rushed to Jade with tears in her eyes. But she tried hard to hold it back with a smile.

"Mum..." Jade called again but Kate held him to a tight hug as she felt emotional.

Looking at the strange guy on his mother's bed, he gave Jade a wicked look, slicing an apple and placed a piece of it in his mouth.

"You called me mum. Are you alright?" Jade held his mum back, staring into her eyes that won't stop dripping.

"I found him, Jade. I-I found my son." She sniffed between her words.

"W...what do you mean, mum? I don't understand." Jade looked perplexed at both of them, looking a little heated.

"He's Jaden... My long, lost son." Kate cleared up. "He's your your brother. The one we've always burnt candles for."

"What? B... but Jaden is long dead." Jade pointed out.

"I wasn't dead, Jade. After the accident, I actually survived. I've been alive all these while." Denver, the guy with sliced apples on the bed walked closer to Jade with an annoying smirk on his face.

"You don't look happy. Aren't you excited that I'm back?"  The strange looking guy asked as curiosity laced Kate's face. Lost in confusion, Jade grabbed Kate by her arm and took her to a corner.

"How did you find him, mum? When did you find him?" Tears slowly filled the corners of Jade's puzzled eyes.

It's obvious that he wasn't expecting this. Any of this.

"It was yesterday, Jadee. At CBRE Group Anniversary. He came to me and explained everything. It's been a mystery only God understands. The truth is... 23 years ago, Jaden didn't die in that accident. He got adopted and was named Denver by Sir Alfredo, the real owner of CBER. I'll explain everything to you gradually, just welcome your brother first." Kate sounded pleadingly to Jade as she placed a sincere smile on her lips in amidst of the shimmering tears welling up in her eyes. She looked overjoyed with the reconnection of her long, lost son.

Going back to where Denver was standing, Jade's eyes rocked through his body as Denver threw the last slice of apple in his mouth and gave it a good chew. His angular jaw was so sharp and perfect. It's clear that Denver is indeed handsome, like Kate's late husband.

'Denver has the exact colour of his grey eyes and brunette hair but how possible? How possible would he have esccaped death throughout the years without anyone knowing about him untill now. Why now?' Jade couldn't help but to think that he'll lose every chance in becoming the heir to the Alejandro's.

"Nice to meet you, dude. I've heard a lot about you so far." Denver started, placing his right hand forward if he wants an handshake.

Looking at Denver's eyes, Jade couldn't help but to feel defeated. There was a mysterious look in Denver's eyes. Something dark and unclear. Jade felt that somehow,  something was wrong. Things were happening so fast and it looked at if he was losing to this stranger, already.

Jade's eye fell to his mother's again as he felt his throat closing up. The joy laced in her eyes ware immeasurable. Something he'd never seen before. Too bad she'd accepted him whole heartedly. He's her son afterall.

Jade turned his back to leave as tears clouded his eyes.

"Jade! Are you alright?" Kate asked, moving closer to her son but he faked a smile saying, "I'm fine mother. I'm happy my brother is back."
Jade looked away to hide his tears as it lingered down his cheek. He just gave to leave the room. To give her reunited mother and son their space.

Although, Kate's heart felt like an heavy rock in an ocean, she tried not to sink in sadness that was overcoming her. All she wanted was to be happy. At least, Her Jadee is back now but she can't love Jade less either.

"Jade..." Kate muttered to her son as he left the room, drawing in the ocean of sorrow.
She wanted to go after him but Denver held her back. A drop of tear fell down her sad eyes as she watched him leave.

"I don't know how he's feeling but it's not what it is. It's nit what he's thinking..." Kate told her son as more tears covered her vision.

Denver held Kate closer, looking so calm and gentle. He scrunched up his face, exaggerating his expression to look sad.

"Don't worry, mother. Time would heal." He said convincingly, cluddling his long lost mother in a soft hug. He forced his breathing into a more irregular pattern as he gently caress Kate's head on his head.

It was the first time in forever, that something brought tears to Jade's eyes. He wiped off his eyes, driving like he someone going to paradise. To Jade, the look in Denver's eyes was torturing and distrusting.

'How could mum just accept him in just like that? I don't care who had adopted him earlier but this isn't fair. I don't know if grandpa knows already? What if he decides to change the will?' Jade scoffed at the troublesome thought.

In an instant, he took his phone and scrolled through it for a while. About to dial Sapphire's number but he stopped in between.

'She might not pick my call or she might be probably busy with something else. I don't want to disturb her. Maybe I should just work it off.' Jade pondered as he took the next turn to the direction of his hotel.

What do you think I'd going to happen to Jade? Do you think the Chairman would change his will again? Now that the real, first grandson is found? Well, that is compulsory....right?
