Chapter 26: Something About Jade's Past
The couple walked upstairs to take a seat, facing each other. Jade watched Sapphire with a bash look as she placed two you box in front of them.
"I know you're not interested in doing this with me, Jade, but I feel this would be fun." She explained as he eyes rolled through the toys' menu.
Jade folded his hands on his chest and sat broken into the chair. Sapphire gazed back at him with a hold smile.
"Don't tell me you never did this as a child." He brought up suddenly.
"No, I didn't." He replied to her sincerely.
"What did you do, then?"
"I took lessons on violin, cello, golf, swimming, ballet and Spanish." He explained.
"Wow! That's totally different from what I did as a child."
"What did you study?" He questioned her, interestedly.
"I played soccer, took piano lessons for two months, learnt how to skip rope in school. I watched Tom and Jerry and other Disney cartoons and also played with dolls and teddy bears." She narrated. "But anyway, it's okay. It's my first time making a model, too. Come on, let's do it together."
Sapphire placed the menu on the table and gently opened the toy box.
"So, why are we doing this, anyway?"
"Because the kids in my class will like it." She smiled and scattered the pieces on the table.
Jade didn't open his own box. He watched Sapphire create a model so, he'll know if she's able to or not.
The pieces of toys we're like puzzle parts. All were confusing and so different yet, alike.
As he watched Sapphire, Jade heard a child's murmurings in the background. He looked to his side and his eyes caught a boy, about 9 to 10 years old, whining to his mum to buy a box of toy for him. It was the exact type Sapphire had, something attractive like a robot, you'll have to build on your own.
"Please mum. I won't ask for anything again." The boy cried. "Buy me the model toys, mum. I want it!"
"No, I've bought enough! Let's go!" The woman grabbed her son by his arm but he jerked off.
"I said please." He whizzed, disappointedly.
"If you keep misbehaving, I'm just going to leave you here!" The boy's mother threatened. "And I won't buy you any ice cream as promised! You want to live with the owner of this store? Fine! I'll get a new son and leave you here!"
"But still, but it for me! Please, I really want one!" He yelled.
Hearing them argue made Jade remember his childhood.

They came to the church from an orphanage when Jade saw a framed picture hanged on the wall. Flowers were placed beside it as a couple of guests and close relatives came to give their condolences. Most of them were dressed in black suits, but his eyes caught a woman with a swollen red eyes. It's no doubt that she was shaken by his death. And that was the first day he met with Mrs. Kate Alejandro.
As the visitors came in and left, Kate didn't utter a word. The only thing moving in her eyes were sorrowful tears, lingering down her sad face. She looked shattered inside but cried silently not to disturb others.
As other children prayed, Jade couldn't help but to turn back to the woman in tears. He wondered what it felt like, but he didn't take his eyes off Kate.
Watching her late son's photograph, Kate, at the other side of the church, caught the young boy staring at her. Looking at him playing with and handkerchief in his hands made her remember how she loved watching her son too. In at moment, they shared a long stare at each other. In affection towards each other.
After a while, Jade walked to Kate and handed her his handkerchief to wipe away her tears. Kate collected it with trembling hands. Everything about this boy reminded her of her late son, Jaden Alejandro.
Collecting his handkerchief, Kate held Jade in a warm, tight hug as he held unto her too, cuddling him like a child reuniting with its long, lost mother.
Kate tried not to cry, but she silently wept on the handkerchief he'd given her. The sight of mother-child's love was displayed between the both of them as other children watched Jade caress her gently at the back. He stroked her gently, the way a child would. And in that, there was a connection between the both of them.
There and then, Stephen Alejandro, who was Kate's late husband father, walked in. He just heard about his grandson's death and when he saw Jade with Kate, he couldn't help but pity the both of them. They held themselves into a tight hug as Kate cried on the young Jade's shoulders. Sobbing silently, trying to control her tears.
Later that day, Kate adopted Jade and took him home as her own. He was also given the name, Alejandro as he legally became part of the famous, wealthy family.
Lost in thought, Sapphire twitched her fingers as Jade woke into reality.
(END OF FLASHBACK)
"Hey! What are you thinking about? Are you sleeping with your eyes open?" Sapphire asked surprisingly.
"No, I wasn't sleeping." He explained.
"Are you sick? Why are you looking so dull?" She asked and touched his forehead, but he stopped her.
"Should we leave? Or are you tired already?" She asked more, concerned.
"No, I'm fine. There's nothing to worry your pretty head about. Just keep on doing this, I'll go but some drinks." He uttered and walked downstairs.
Sapphire gazed at him in total confusion. She just couldn't understand the CEO.

Sapphire continued to build her model while Jade walked downstairs. He bought a box of model toys and walked to where the strange boy and his mother were arguing.
"I said, shut up and let's go, else... I won't take you out again!" The mother warned her son.
"Come on mum! I know you have the money. Just buy it for me!" The boy buzzed, endlessly.
Jade walked towards them and handed the boy the box of model toy.
"Here, take and stop crying." He muttered as he pet the boy on his head. "Make sure you obey your mum without complaining, okay?"
"Okay." The boy answered and happily hugged Jade. "Thank you, sir!"
"Thank you. The woman greeted him too. Raising his head upwards, Jade saw Sapphire. She's been watching him all these while. Sapphire ran back to her seat immediately her caught her staring.
