CHAPTER 11 ━━━ FIRE WHISKEY SMOKE

LAUGHTER, CHATTER, AND CHEERS could be heart all throughout the Great Hall as it was jam packed with students. Most were there to be filled with food as they didn't know how long the upcoming quidditch game would last for. Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw, and with Ravenclaw's new seeker of the year the match was sure to be a tight one.

The Great hall was one great loud mess as you heard utensils clinking around with plates, everyone's voice gradually growing louder as everyone kept trying to be heard over the chatter. No it wasn't like a party, it felt more as if you would place so many dogs clumped together in one room they have no option of yet to bark at one another. Food was disappearing quickly. Crowds especially crowded certain areas of the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tables where the quidditch teams sat together.

Students passed by giving pats on shoulders, saying "good luck," and "I can slip you some liquid luck," but the students especially applauded James Potter, which was fine seeing as it was his birthday. Him, Marlene and the rest of the Gryffindor team glowed in their red and yellow quidditch sweaters, ready and geared up as Marlene quickly chowed her plate of eggs. She'd have to spend maybe even all day scouting out for the snitch. Their faces covered in pride yet determination as Marls stared down the Ravenclaw seeker across the way. Mila moved her eyes towards him, sucking in a breath.
That was right, he was their new seeker for the year.

Her attention reverted back to the three other friends of James that stood just behind him. Peter had been placing a goofy birthday cone hat on James as Sirius kept trying to drive other people away. Next to them Remus stood tall over him, his eyes wandered around the room before he met Mila's, smiling he nodded towards her in acknowledgment. 'Hi,' she mouthed back grinning, but her attention was quickly averted to Serenity as she took her seat in front of her, squishing between Maisie and a few third year boys. "Where's Ruby?" Mila asked.

"Oh well, when you two were off doing who knows what, Ruby asked a seventh year boy out for this game! They wanted to meet up before, so she just ditched us." she shrugged, opening her mouth in revelation to continue, "Did you hear? Evans finally ditched that Snape trash, but she also like majorly turned down James potter-" Maisie shushed her. "Alright, alright Serenity, we know, we were there! Lily just wants the drama to die down so maybe try not to talk about it!" Serenity took a grape, plopping it into her mouth as it squished and crushed beneath her teeth. "Alright, well it's huge, because now we don't know if she'll show up to the after party, because obviously she's friends with McKinnon, so if she shows up, shit no doubt with happen, and if she doesn't that's even worse- Oh Mai you're still on to ditch the game right? We need to go find all the alcohol we can!" Maisie rolled her eyes and nodded confirming Serenity's question.

The Great Hall came to a halt as the head boy from Hufflepuff shouted throughout the crowds, "IT'S TIME, EVERYONE TO THE PITCH!"

The room errupted into cheers as you could hear the shuffling of shoes and feet. Colors splashed everywhere as everyone wasn't in the regular uniform and instead in their own preferred clothing. Ida rose out of her seat, grasping Mila's hand as they tried to make their way through the busy bodies of students. Ida's hair poofed out of his confined ponytail, slightly getting in Mila's face. Iddy wore a long ankle length skirt, with a light pink tank of which she'd stolen out of Serenity's closet. Mila herself wore her favorite pair of bellbottomed jeans, new ones she had gotten during Christmas. Her shirt was hidden behind her black zip up.

As they exited the Great hall there were two floods of students, ones headed outdoors towards the quidditch pitch, and those headed in the opposite direction, most likely skipping out on the game. Finally making their way outside into the court yard a slight drizzle washed over everyone, that was when Ida began complaining.

"Oh it's so cold! And it's raining!"

"I told you to bring a sweater."

"You're not my mum, it's like I knew it was going to rain!"

"I literally pointed out how gray the clouds were this morning!"

Ida puffed before pulling a puppy eyed face towards Mila. Mila sighed shaking her head at Ida before taking off her sweater and handing it to her friend. "Oh you're a life saver M', thank you!!" she praised, as Mila wrapped her arm around Ida's shoulders saying "I know, I know," as they followed the crowds for the heavy walk ahead.

"Oh M' I'm so happy you finally want to come to a game with me! If I'd only known it only took for you to be put on the spot then I would've done it a while ago!" Ida exclaimed as she lead Mila through different stands of seats. Ida loved quidditch, she knew all the rules, teams, and always stayed up to date with world cups and such so. She never failed to miss a match.

"Mils over here!" a voiced hounded through the crowds, catching Mila's attention, there was only one person that could be. "This way Iddy!" Mila guided pointing to a row where Remus stood along with Sirius and Peter. The two marched their way through as they muttered "excuse me" to every set of knees and legs they crossed over to get to their party.

"You came!" Remus beamed, noticing the worn Bee Gees shirt she had on. She chuckled at his statement, "Sure always comes as a surprise to you whenever I show up for things, Remus." Remus felt a kick to his calf as Sirius lifted his head up to whisper to him, "Y'know y'blushin, Moony?" Remus whipped his head around sending him a scowl, "Oh shut it will you?"

"PLACE YOUR BETS AND GET A FREE BAG OF POPCORN!" students repeated through the stands behind them. Trays hung from straps on their shoulders fell in front of them. "Ooh, ooh! Mila can you go get us some popcorn!" Mila nodded taking the money from Ida as she crawled her ways behind the stands, "Remember to bet for Gryffindor so we can kick Simon Barnes' arse!" Iddy shouted.

"Of course I will! But also stop being so petty!"

"Uhm, Reese," Sirius adressed, leaning forward to see the frizzy haired girl. "Please, everyone just calls me Ida," she said, pulling down the sleeves of the jacket. "You're very straight forward aren't you?" he asked. Ida pursed her lips, "When I want to be," she answered.

"Ok, well, Ida, why are we directly hating on Simon Barnes now? No need to hate on a fairly good looking man now do we?"

  "He's a big dick!"

"From what I've experienced he seems to be shaped very human-like."

Leaning forward Ida glared at him, "I see what M' complains about now, and anyways he's just a big two-faced, fat, lying, cheater." she said.

Peter pursed his lips off to the side, acting as if he had not been eavesdropping as Sirius blinked away slight surprise, "Ooh, well that sounds quite interesting, please continue." Ida sat there for a second squinting her eyes at Sirius as she contemplated her next decision. She let out an exasperated sigh as she got up from her seat, "Alright fine, before she gets back," she argued, squeezing in between Remus and Sirius so they could hear her better. "Making a move on me, are we now?" Sirius smirked smugly. Ida raised her eyebrows in shock at his boldness.  "Godric no, I'm gay."

She immediately slapped her hand over her mouth as Peter let out a snort with the air he had pocketed in his cheeks while Remus sucked in his lips holding in a mocking smile. "Oh well then- it's ok I'm all for the homosexuals, I mean look we're still hanging around Pete!" Ida merely frowned at his incompetence, "You're sickening," she stated annoyed. "Sorry, sorry, just go on- continue."

She decided to go on, at least happy with the fact that the boys didn't seem to care. She inhaled a fresh breath of air as she started, "Ok so in third year Mila and Simon became like best friends, I'm talking like some days I wouldn't even see her because she was with him, so obviously they go and get crushes on each other or whatever, started dating, then one month later she found him and Serenity, her friend, both drunk at a party making out. They called it quits, never spoke to each other again after that. She got really sad for like two weeks because of course if your really good friendship got ruined wouldn't you?" They all sat there speechless, Remus looked back as he saw Mila waiting in line just to grab popcorn for all of them, a smile plastered on her face, she didn't deserve that. "Well that's shitty," Peter said, Ida scoffed. Remus looked behind towards the line of people waiting to place there bets as his eyes fell on Mila. It dawned on him that she was most likely only thirteen, couples are usually made to last at that age, but she never deserved to have that have happened to her, yet she just stood there, smiling ready to buy popcorn for all of them. "Yeah, that's why she doesn't really make any new friends anymore, she does not do well with change or like being alone and all that, but you Remus- Why did you get eight bags of popcorn?" Ida quickly asked as Mila showed up in the row behind them.

"I dunno, just in case I guess," she shrugged as she looked down the bench, "There's like no where to sit!" she mentioned, and it was true, the row was almost fully taken as more people came in. "Yes there is!" Ida beckoned, "Here you, Lupin scoot over that way," she motioned pushing him over as just enough space for Mila squish into opened up. She quickly gave everyone bags of popcorn as she placed the extra ones with Ida before she sat down, squishing her self up against Iddy and Remus. "Sorry," she muttered to Remus while Ida shushed her, begging everyone to quiet down, "Shut up they're coming out!" Mila rolled her eyes, "You say that as if you have."

Sets of seven players dressed in reds and blues came out onto the field, meeting in the center as the crowds roared and cheered, waving flags and stomping their feet. Everyone watched impatiently as Madam Hooch quickly went over the rules until the team captains shook hands, confirming their vows to follow the binds. Hooch then placed down the set of quidditch balls as she released the bludgers and snitch off into the air, giving them a few seconds to wander off. She then took the quaffle holding it out the crowd as the players mounting their brooms, ready to set off. Chasers awaited for the ball to be thrown so they could quickly charge. Madam Hooch threw the ball into the air blowing her whistles as the teams set off into the air, going in countless directions.

Mila felt all her friends cheer as James was the first to the quaffle, trying to swerve around all defenses, that was before he dropped the ball trying to avoid being hit by a beater's bludger sent his way, knocking the ball into a Ravenclaw chaser's grasp. The gryffindor stands gave a disappointed 'ooh' as the Ravenclaws cheered.

"Ok so the team just has to get the most points to win, and they just have to get the quaffle in the rings right?" Mila asked Ida, shoving a few pieces of popcorn into her mouth.

"Yeah, but it doesn't end until the seekers get the snitch." Ida assured.

"Ok so then what do the people with the bats do?"

"They're trying to hit the chasers, quaffle people, so they don't score a point."

Mila nodded her head slowly, regaining her knowledge of quidditch rules as Remus chortled beside her, "You really don't watch quidditch do you?" he asked. Mila set her popcorn in her lap, "No, I really don't" she said crossing her arms, "I'm not a big fan of sports," she stated. Remus pursed his lips looking ahead watching as the two seekers circled the field, "I'll just have to take you to more games then."

Ida leaned back into Mila trying to get away from Sirius as he mumbled, "Smooth Moony, smooth," covering it up with fake coughs which she had thought were real. Remus' attention was then pulled to the woman shouted "Candy, sweets, and treats! Three for three sickles!" Mila rested her hands on Remus and Ida's shoulder, helping her with her balance as she got up. "I'm gonna go get something does anyone want anything?" she asked, grabbing some money from Ida's pocket. Remus turned his head around, "Yeah, a chocolate frog and the yellow candy please" he answered, ready to turn his head back around before Mila kept on going, "What yellow candy, lemon drops or toothburners?" she questioned.

"I dunno, the round ones," he shrugged.

  "Remus, they're both round."

"They come in the little bags."

"They both- you know just come on," she groaned, pulling Remus out of his seat, he didn't have time to complain before he noticed how his hand was taken into hers as she pulled him passed people up to the treat cart. "Hi, what can I get you two?" the woman asked, Mila turned to Remus, "What did y'want?" she said, eyes trailing down to where Remus was staring at as he didn't respond right away. She quickly pulled apart their hands mumbling, "Sorry," as she turned back smiling to the lady grabbing a package of exploding bon bons. "S'kay" Remus mumbled back, regretting now as he felt the warmth leave his hand, turning his face towards the cart as well to hide his blushing, picking up a chocolate frog and another orange box.

"Alrighty then, three sickles is your total as promised." Mila was about to place the amount in the woman's hands but Remus quickly fished out his own money quickly placing three silver coins into her palm. The woman cashed them away while Mila's eyes flickered to Remus, they bid their goodbyes before turning around to head back.

"You didn't have to pay, I had the money," Mila stated.

"I know," Remus smiled, sneakily grabbing her hand this time to lead them back, "Just wanted to." he said, pushing through the cheering students, Mila trailing behind. "You didn't even get any yellow candy, you got fizzing whizzbees!" she pointed out, Remus simply just smirked, "Changed my mind I guess."

The game had been going on for just a couple of hours, everyone in the stands had been standing right now, the scores were tight and close, almost tied, but Gryffindor was evidently in the lead.

"And it seems that Ravenclaw's seeker had caught sight of the snitch- ooh and McKinnon quickly follows on!" The commentator said, riling up all of the stands as they waved their flags, shouted and screamed for their preferred team to go faster. The two were neck and neck, leaning on their brooms as they whizzed fast, only the tiniest bit of gold could be seen. Marlene quickly averted downwards as James quickly whizzed in front to catch an on going quaffle. She kept going avoiding her team mate as Simon quickly got stopped. The crowds slowly got louder and louder as Marlene started outreaching her hand.

The crowds erupted and went wild as she swerved in a circle holding the snitch up for the people to see, a big smug grin on her face. Players slowly started floating their way to the grass as Sirius, Peter, and Remus all shouted praise for James and the Gryffindor team. The crowds were almost too feral that people from behind them bumped into Ida and Mila knocking them forward, Remus just in time being able to catch Mila as she herself held her friend back. She laughed looking at Remus, "Ok maybe quidditch is fun, crazy, but a tad fun," she professed. "See M'! I've been telling you for years!" Ida exclaimed, side hugging her friend letting out a cheer.

Mila's first bottle of fire whiskey felt cold as the glass pushed against her lips. The liquid burned down her throat as she opened her eyes. The common roomed seemed as it had red lights flooding the space but that was due to amounts of red furniture and items of which the lights bounced off from.

Those who were friends of James had birthday hats on, those of which who were mostly there to celebrate the golden boy's birthday. The other third of students were proud Gryffindors as Marlene had kept hold of that matches snitch all night. Students cheered and chanted, if they won the next game they'd be put into the finals. The last third of students were there to enjoy their time, spend a good weekend. Though most were sober as there wasn't enough prudent alchohol to go around.

In turn alchohol was mostly given to those of which were close of said person for the part or ordeal pertained too, and since students needed to smuggle in drinks, they couldn't get quite enough. Mila was lucky now, she could find as many drinks as she wanted, one new found benefit of making her new friend. Still scolding herself slightly against her rule of not drinking at crowded functions.

A puff of smoke entered her line of view. It engulfed her as it was brought down into her lungs. Turn her head she found Remus bringing down a cigarette from his lips, blowing the last of it out of his lungs in her face. "Hey, where'd you get that!" she asked angrily noticing the familiar brand on the end. "Your. Pocket." he said extremely slow. Mila dug into her sweater pulling out an open, almost empty pack of cigarettes, scolding her self silently for the forget of taking them out. She looked back up to Remus as he brought it back up to his lips, his eyes were lidded yet pupils dilated, in other words he was extremely drunk.

"You shouldn't smoke you know?" she informed, trying to take the tube away from him. Sirius' face showed up from in between then, standing right behind the couch, "No use for sayin any of that Luna, he smokes loaaaddsss, like wayy more than I do, and he's just like- professional, no, no, no," Sirius speech was slurred and quite confusing as he pushed himself off the couch away from them. She had found part of the reason for the lack of drinks, they seemed to all used up by the marauders.

"If you smoke too much you're going to die sooner than all of us," Mila continued, finally taking the cigarette into her own grasp. "I have a feeling those gits will likely kill themselves on accident before I get the chance to even grow old." he ranted trying to reach his hand back into her pocket before she swatted his hands away, "That muggle mouse guy died from smoking, don't smoke." she said.

"You know I found the cig from your pocket," Remus said with a sly smile, leaning closer to Mila's face to taunt her, "Therefore it's your fault."

The two took a breath, holding it in while Mila stared directly into the eyes placed in front of her. Her lungs seemed to expand yet deflate very quickly for just inhaling smoke, and her heart felt as it were having a seizure.

Remus saw as his own eyes fluttered down to Mila's lips, before quickly catching himself and flicking them back up. The fire whiskey seemed to do as promised, boosting one's courage. To him it felt like the exchange lasted for minutes, maybe hours, but what would've been a mere few seconds. Mila brought back up the cigaraette, blowing a puff of smoke into Remus' face, repeating his previous actions. It widened the gap between them, reducing the tension that Mila wished to rid of.

  Remus scoffed, "Rude" he muttered.

"Hey you did it to me, I'm gonna go bring some whiskey to Serenity, since she brought it." she stated, quickly getting off the couch. grabbing her drink and heading out of the area.

Remus sat there while Sirius leaned over the arm of the couch, placing his face right next to Remus, "That was hot." he stated, "Thought y'were gonna make out or sum'," he emitted, but Remus' palm came in contact with padfoot's cheek, pushing his face out of the way.

"That was literally nothing." he tried convincing himself.

  "You like her mate."

"No." Remus rolled his head around on the back of the couch.

  "Do y'think she's pretty?"

"Yeah." Remus answered out of no where as the alcohol made the room seem as it was slowly turning.

"Do y'think she the most awesome person cool in the world?" Sirius grinned from his friends previous answer

  "Yeah."

"If y'could would you be and be her boyfriend?"

  "ok."

  "So you crush on her?"

  Remus shook his head no.

"But you said yes to everything, mean you like her Moony."

  "Ok."

"You got a crush on her?"

  "Ok."

"So you admit to it?" Sirius beamed.

"Sure." Remus shrugged, looking around for the second cigarette he'd took and hidden just in case. Sirius just howled and urgently looked around, "Who's the most sober of our friends here right now?" he frantically asked pushing through the crowds finding Peter.

"PETER PETER PETER, PETEY PETE, PETERTAIL, WORMPETE, WORM TAIL, WORMTAIL!!" he exclaimed into his ear. Peter clamped his ears shut with his hands before turning to Sirius, "I'm here! I can hear ya, fuckin' shut up!" Sirius frowned then pouted as his lips formed back into a smile, "I have a secret to tell you wormyyy," he crooned, he then cupped his hands around
Peters ear to imitate young girls gossiping.

"Uhmmmm- uhmmm, ok ok, so remember that Remus Lupin, our friend, the wolf oneeee, he said, he admitted that his crush on the moon girl is real, like really real, and I tell you this because, because your like, no drinks y'know? So you'll remember, and that's whyyyyyy." he tried his best to whisper

Sirius pulled back giggling like a little girl as Peter sucked in his lips trying to hold back a smirk, "Boy are you one happy drunk, and I will most definitely remember that, Padfoot," he confirmed, sending Sirius back to Remus as he screamed back, "I'm not drunk!"

Across the room the second bottle of whiskey was released from Mila's hand as it was given to Serenity. Serenity eyed Mila up in down in curiosity as she slowly popped the bottle open, "Are you sick or something?" she asked. Mila raised her eyebrow as she took a swig out of her drink, "No why?" Maisie came around the corner, wrapping her arm around Serenity's neck, a grimace coming on her face as she saw Mila, "Ooh you're like really red."

"Really?" her eyes widened, the two just nodded adjusting their dresses. Maisie then groaned, "My legs are tired!" she rolled her neck onto Serenity shoulders as her friends lead her back to the couch where Remus still sat, head leaned on the back as his eyes were closed. Sirius sat on the arm of the couch again. Mila sat down, far away enough from Remus but leaving enough space for Maisie to spread out as her head was placed on Mila legs.

Maisie let out a large exasperated huff, "Me being tired is all your fault Serenity, had me running around all day," she furrowed her brows. The blonde rolled her eyes, "It's not my fault the professors started getting suspicious!" she said trying to seem oblivious to way the Sirius was eyeing her.

"So you got us all the drinks?" He called out, Serenity turned to face him. "Yeah, Jefferson asked me too," she smirked at her yearned for attention. "Fine man Jefferson, seemed to pick the perfect person to do the job," he began flirting, Remus opened his eyes looking to the two as she began walking to him, rolling his eyes he looked to his side smiling at his returning friend, noticing as she played with her friends hair as it sat in her lap.

Remus was extremely tired, with each blink he felt that any second his eyelids could shut close, possibly forever. If he ever drank way too much he would either become exhausted or very affectionate. He groaned as he now drooped his head forward and downwards. Mila looked at him, letting out a soft sigh, "Everyone's tired tonight," she laughed.  Remus picked up his head, "Yeah, this party's a bit of a bust," he yawned. Mila tilted her head, "Not sure if that's a thing you say for something that's basically your best friends birthday." Remus hummed, massaging the back of his neck. "What'd you get him for his birthday anyways?" she asked, letting Maisie reposition to lay on her side.

"We all chipped in to buy him a new broom," he answered pursing his lips. "Well that's very nice, sweet of you," Mila said with a fond look.

"You're gift to me was sweet." he chimed, placing the back of his head on her shoulder as he leaned the rest of his side against her. She raised her eyebrows, "Really?"  "Yeah, I loved it," he said, eyes collapsing in on him as he let himself rest. Mila softly smiled at his small confession, slowly digging out a new cigarette. She placed it in between her lips letting a small flame protrude from her wand as she lit it up.

Sucking it in she let the fumes sit for a second, inhaling some in before blowing it out into the air above. She watched as it formed a cloud, blowing and pushing itself around before ultimately disappearing.

She tried to be careful with her movements, as to not disrupt the two bodies resting upon her.

EXTRA A/N

Ok so I don't think you all know this, but I write chapters in advance so I'm currently writing chapter 14. But re-reading this chapter made me smile. Anyways, I've been gone from writing this book for a bit (*cough* three months since the last update), butttt I have been obsessed with making graphics for it, so expect a new trailer for it coming!! I hope to get back into the habit in writing for this pair, as I still have like another 70 chapters to write

ORIGINAL A/N

extremely long chapter, but I can't help it, I love writing quidditch matches and parties, Even as a kid one of my favorite parts of the books were the quidditch matches so it's out of bias. ALSO gryffindor parties seem like sooo much fun LIKE-but also i feel like hufflepuff parties r just like, they'd give what a party is supposed to give- but also writing some of the parts in this chapter made me cringe, but we'll all just have to get over them.

anyways Mila is slowly entering her denial phase, and Remus as you saw practically openly admitted his feelings to his friends so, we'll see if they ever catch up to each other.
