LIKE ALWAYS, Mila couldn't sleep. Her eyes wouldn't shut, her body wouldn't relax, and the thousands of thoughts continued to swirl around in her mind as she continued to make up fake scenarios of random people's lives so she would have something to do until her body gave up and shut down.

Tonight, the bad one's had come up, the bad one's about her, about it. She hates thinking about it, because it's the past, and frankly, the past sucks. Everything you regret, all the trauma, bad decisions, cringe worthy stories, and younger you that you wish you could be again so you weren't so aware of everything, sucks to think about.

Mila loved to live in the future, or at least a few months ahead, like how she would usually think about prepping for her o.w.l.s, that wasn't so scary to think about as it. But the thing was, it rarely ever came up. It came up once in 2nd year when she told it to Ida, it came up hushed and quickly that one time when Mila was 7 and her mother was talking to Serenity's parents over dinner, and sometimes it came up in her dreams, and a couple of times it would flash in her eyes, and she absolutely hated it.

  It.

It's hard to give a name to it, because it's hard to describe it, she was only so young, and only had such a small brain to grasp what her mother and brother explained to her the day before they shoved them on the train to Hogwarts and made it haunt her for a few weeks. Months. Years.  And Mila had only one way to rid of it, a method Ida strongly advised against, a method introduced to her in only the end of 2nd year when Serenity and Ruby dragged her into a Gryffindor party to hang out with some older girls.

So she finally decided to get out of bed, she slipped on a quick black zip up before getting down on her knees lifting off the mattress of her bed. She slid her fingers under it as she finally brought out a small labeled white box, it was only slightly dusted. She wiped off the dust slipping it into her pocket as she grabbed her wand. Quickly she slipped on her worn converse, not caring if they were lose and untied. Quietly she turned the knob of the door, exiting the dorm.

Trying not to anger the Fat Lady by waking her up she softly shut the portrait door behind her as she began wondering off looking for the perfect spot outside. She took in the nightly breeze and tried her best to be light on her feet, prefects were still out patrolling at this time after all. The last thing she wanted to do was get into trouble and knock off some points, along with earning herself a detention. She walked the open halls before she began making her way outside of the castle walls

As she roamed the outskirts of the school on the grass looking for a good wall she noticed a shadowy figure against one. She stopped to take a look at them finally noticing it was in fact Sirius Black. His hair shadowed of his face, he looked extremely tired. Between his lips and his fingers was a cigarette frozen in place as he looked back at Mila. She looked around to check if there was anyone else, he nodded to her as she began making her way towards him.

  "Hi," Mila breathed.

  "Hi."

"What are you doing up?" She questioned, shoving her hands into the pockets of her sweater. "I could ask you the same thing, Lassie," Sirius replied flatly as Mila rolled her eyes to the name, huffing she said, "To do the same as you I suppose," she fumbled with taking out the box of cigarettes, opening it to grab one out before she placed it back in her jacket. She took her wand out of her pant's back pocket muttering "Incendio" as she placed the flame to the cylinder, lighting it up. Sirius raised his eyebrows in a small sense of shock, "Didn't know you would smoke, you don't strike me as a smoker." He watched as she let out a puff of smoke, releasing it off into the air, "What do I 'strike' you as then?"

"Some mysterious annoying nerd who won't get off my back," He chuckled, bringing the tabacco to his mouth again. "So in your world mysterious really cool smart people don't smoke? Or do anything?" Mila accused, Sirius just shrugged in response, "I dunno, you just seem to pop up everywhere now,"

"You lot are the one's that pop up everywhere now, I keep to myself," she stated.

"No, no, it's like wherever I'm at, you are there, it's obnoxious really."

"Last time, if I recall, I was trying to read and you came up stealing my book and yelling in my ear."

"We were there first, you were taking up the table."

"You were by the fireplace, I was minding my own business, you are the ones who are nosy," Mila huffed, finally taking in another puff of the the cigarette.  "Don't put all the blame on me, you made Moony ditch us because he wanted to give you your stupid book back, which wasn't yours by the way!" he commented, waving around his finger. "Moony? Oh that's Lupin right? you have the strangest nicknames for everyone, Black."

"I only give nicknames to my best friends,"

"Oh so now I'm your greatest friend in the world?" Mila replied sarcastically.

  "No I call everyone 'Lassie'!"

  "You call Potter, 'Lassie'?"

"No! I don't call my bestfriends 'Lassie' you idiot."

"Then please enlighten me, what do you call them, because all your names are getting quite confusing."

Sirius huffed through his nose, frustrate he began talking very rapidly, "Prongisforjameswormtailisforpetermoonyisforremuspadfootisforthebestpersonintheworldme" Mila blinked at him in confusion as he brought the cigarette to his lips again, "What?"

  "Are you deaf?"

  "That's insensitive."

"Ok, sorry then, Prongs is James, Wormtail, Peter, Moony, Remus, and Padfoot, is for the best person in the world, me. Are you up to speed now?" Mila squinted her eyes at him, "I hope so."

For the next few minutes they continued smoking as Sirius told two stories of some pranks the Marauders had pulled in 2nd year. She was glad to get her mind off of it, at least for a little while, maybe she could be able to rest easier.  The was an unspoken silence, each of them knew that each other was only out here for a reason, a personal problem maybe that none could ever talk to one another about, so instead they resorted to hopeful stories.

After a bit of time they agreed to walk back up to the dorms to get some rest for tomorrow, which Sirus had described would be very hectic but would be very awesome at the same time. Mila just said it'd be a regular day for her, it wasn't that big of a deal. As they turned the corner two figures were seen dressed in their robes, the moon lit up the pins that glowed on their chest. Prefects.

"Shit!" Sirius hushed, the prefects at the end of the halls had heard him. Sirius quickly gripped Mila's jacket sleeve dragging her the other direction as one of the prefect shouted "Hey!" they tried their best to walk quickly as too loud of steps would definitely lead them to where they were headed. Before they could turn into another hall a pair of hands gripped the back of each of their clothes, tugging them back keeping them in place.  Cringing they each turned around to see a boy in Ravenclaw robes, "Oi, isn't this your friend? Think he's up to picking up random chicks again, Lupin." Behind him Remus walked up to what he was going to leave to his patrol partner but was now implied for him to deal with.

Remus rolled his eyes at Sirius, "Godric, Sirius, if I catch you one more time I will actually give you a detention!" he groaned. "You say that all the time mate, we both know that will never happen, but I'm sure Lassie here would love to have one!" Sirius grinned patting Mila's shoulder as she gave him a scowl. "Gross Pads, you breath smells like smoke again. What are you two up too?" "We were trying to help get some sleep," Sirius said. Remus scoffed, "I don't think smoking makes you sleep -" "It actually does, great resource, you should try it instead of judging us for our actually working methods!" Mila cut him off, shoving her hands in her pockets to keep them warm. Remus pursed his lips, he knew he smoked loads for than Sirius so he really wasn't in a place to say anything, he then took a step back, "5 points deducted, just go get some rest." Mila gave him a thankful smile holding up a thumbs up as the two started walking past him. The Ravenclaw tugged at her jacket stopping her as she looked at him, "Wait I think I recognize you!" he said, Mila quirked an eyebrow intrigued, "Weren't you like really close with Simon Barnes in like 3rd year?" he asked, Mila's face fell as she pursed her lips. Leaving no comment she turned around and went to go catch up with Sirius.

As they turned the corner they heard the Ravenclaw loudly mutter, "Ya should've given 'em a detention."

Ah the sacred Valentines day. A day full of love and hope and joy, how romantic, for healthy couples at least. Other than that it's a day of depressed boys and girls wondering, why the hell didn't my ultimate mega hot crush not send me a card? In Mila's case, that was Serenity, Mila was utterly surprised at how she was complaining when she had a pile of almost 20 cards.  "This is your fault M'!" Serenity accused, Mila scoffed crossing her arms, "How?"  "I have all these cards and not one says it's from Sirius Black, you didn't say anything about me to him didn't you?" she whined, crumpling up each of the envelopes. Mila felt bad for the boys probably watching for Serenity's reactions, and how crushed their hearts must be right now. Mila rolled her eyes as Serenity kept pouting, instead she shifted her focus to Ida.

Ida's neck was craned to the Hufflepuff table towards Daphne's direction. They both watch as Daphne so lovingly read the 3 cards she had gotten. It was the giant smile on Ida's face that made Mila happy. Daphne had a very great reaction to the pastel yellow and pink filled letter she'd gotten, Ida didn't care that she didn't know it was from her, or that she thought it was from a boy, she was just happy she had made her happy. She sighed finally accepting that that was it and turned back to the table to Ruby and Maisie sorting out through Ruby's letters as they each laughed and made fun of them. Granted all of them were just asking Ruby to have a quick fuck with them as joke or  to pretend to like them to gain the boy popularity, or make an ex jealous.

As intended Mila got no letters, and that is what she loved. She didn't have the stress of having to reject a secret admirer she didn't want anything to do with, but it did always slightly pain her that absolutely no one saw her in that way. So instead of getting tired of sitting around her lovesick friends she decided to go sit next to the Lily, who's emotions were surely nothing of what anyone else was feeling. To Lily's relief Mila had decided to sit right in-between her and James, separating the two as he was causing her trouble. The red head's eyes were shot wide as they stared furiously of the giant assortment of lilies in front of her. James was a bit annoyed of the random body keeping him away from his one true love, he didn't let that stop him, "So, Lily-flower, what do you say?" Lily's eyes were still trained on the pot. "Same as anything other day." she scowled.

  "And that would be...?"

"Do I have to spell it out for you? Are you that dumb? No, Potter. N-O."

"But I'm seriously asking this time, I got red lilies this time! To match your hair! Did you see the note? The note was cute, I spent a lot of time on it." James had his head peeked out inwards to the table, ignoring Mila.

"Hmm let's see," Lily said, picking up a small white card, letters were scribbled on it, " 'My dearest Lily-flower, please accompany to Hogsmeade next weekend, I will even pick up a book and read it too you.'  How sweet, totally changes my mind," she read sarcastically, Mila did feel a little guilt as he perked up, "Really?" he asked eagerly. "No!"  "Please?" he urged, but she just kept quiet. "Listen Evans," he said, "I'd pick every lily in the world for you even if you never say yes." The corners of Lily's lips twitched, "You'll need to get a gigantic bouquet then." she answered.

Mila quietly sighed, "Morning Potter!" she grinned, "Fine-hi, I'm not interested? Can't you see I'm busy, leave me alone."  "Ouch, uhm ok, so you see Lily is quite annoyed with you so I think you should go back to all your love letters and maybe try going for a girl who actually wants you?" James squinted his eyes at her, letting her know, silently, that he was going to stay put. So of course, she stood of again, making the bold move yanking his arm as he let out a yelp, pulling and dragging him along to back to his own set of friends.

As they neared where the rest of the Marauders were sitting she saw the giant amounts and heaps of cards in front of Remus, she laughed as she shoved James into his seat. You could tell he was overwhelmed, he looked up to see her and James with his head stuffed in his arms.

"Seems like you're going to be busy for the next few weeks, Lupin," Mila joked, Remus grimaced at her before asking, "Did you get any letters?" Mila cheeks went a light shade of pink from embarrassment, "No." she squeaked, preparing for a tease, but instead Remus was jealous, "Lucky," he huffed. "I know," she smiled smugly. Across from Remus, Sirius sat sorting through his own decks of papers, trying to pick which one to read next. Mila decided to semi-fulfill Serenity's wishes and fished out her card from the pile, placing it in Sirius' hands, "Read that one." she said, "Why?" he croaked, she could tell he didn't sleep a wink after last night, "Because the girl who wrote this letter is over the moon for you," she smiled softly, ripping it open Sirius scanned the letters, then he boringly placed it in another pile which Mila had assumed would end of in the bin later, "Same as every other one," he yawned, ripping off a piece of bread from Peter's plate, who was reading the new Daily Prophet.

Mila sucked in her lips before shrugging. She silently started walking back to her seat before Lily's eyes yanked her back down to her side. "You're sitting here now," she demanded, "You're like a shield,"  "Thanks?" Mila added, trying hard not to point out that Lily's face was as red as her hair and the flowers that the redheaded girl was staring at now.

She knew she could just continue eating breakfast here, her friends were to occupied with their own heavy thoughts. So for the rest of the morning she hung around with Lily.

It was the evening.  Remus sat in the Gryffindor common room alone, sketchbook sprawled across his lap. It was a Friday so no new homework was to be assigned, and other assignments that were due for later were already out of the way. Unlike Peter and James who were in the library frantically finishing up an essay that was due Monday. Sirius had gone out on a date, he wanted a partner, and he wanted one fast.

He spent his time imitating and copying the flames that came up from the logs in the fireplace, sometimes he'd doodle little random things and sketched some faces, he couldn't help but notice one looked oddly familiar.

The common room, unexpectedly, was quite quiet, except for the occasional group of crying girls passing through to their dorms.

He never quite understand the meaning for Valentines day, the guys always showered their girl with gifts and love, while they sent their love letters to each other. He wondered why couples couldn't just do that on the regular. They should do it on the regular, other wise what type of relationship would that be?

As he finished up a quick doodle of a chocolate bar, a figure rushed down the stairs. They headed over to the lost and found basket before picking up a item of clothing and turning around to catch Remus' stare.

"Oh hi!" Mila squeaked, slipping on her black zip up, which Remus' recognized from last night. He assumed she was headed somewhere, "Where are y'going?" he asked. Mila ran her fingers through her hair, as they struggled to get through the bottom because of it's tangling, "I'm just going for a walk, they're being too horny up there for me," she chuckled. "Do you happened to be going to the kitchens?" Remus asked, shutting his sketch book.  "If I feel like it, sure." she shrugged, shoving her hands into the pockets of her sweater. "Great, I'm hungry," he snapped the band over the black leather, tossing it on the couch he got up and went to her side.

Mila stared at him blankly. Nudging her arm he said, "C'mon, let's go."  she watched him take a few steps forward towards the portrait door. "Didn't eat dinner did you?" she asked, he smiled shaking his head as her beckoned her out the door.

They walked towards the kitchens before they were stopped by another Hufflepuff girl, she looked to be in there year.  "Hello, Remus!" she greeted, completely ignoring Mila.  "Hi," Remus said quietly, he had no idea who she was.  "Did you read my letter?" she said hopefully, Remus stood there, mouth agape to say something, but no words came out. "You did didn't you? I knew you would! So, have you decided?" the girl asked, a giant grin etched on her face.  Mila snorted, unable to keep her giggles away from this funny and awkward transaction, Remus looked to helpless.

The girl eyed Mila, "What's so funny?" she quirked her eyes. Mila let out another half laugh, "I'm sorry, but Lupin hasn't really read any of them." she felt a prick of guilt at the girl's face fell, yet she continued "Actually he was quite overwhelmed this morning, he didn't have time to read any, I'm sorry."
"Well who are you to talk? What are you, his new girlfriend?" The girl now had a pointed look, Remus' cheeks flushed red, Mila held up her hands in defense, "I- what?" Mila stuttered, to her it was a very absurd accusation, she was nothing of the sort, "No! I'm just his friend, who's helping him out right now, because you're making him very uncomfortable!" she stated.

The girl had an angry pout. She stared at the both, her eyes switching off from each of them before she shoved passed them. As much as Mila wished she could be like any other girl, be hyper feminine, wear stunning makeup everyday, and have loads of cute shoes, she found that she was incapable. "I just wanted chocolate," Remus mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. Mila let out a breathy laugh before Remus took the sleeve of her jacket, guiding her to the portrait of a pear. He grazed her finger on it as they heard the unlocked of the door as it popped open.  Mila had never been to the kitchens much, just to steal a couple of snacks sometimes for her stash. It seemed Remus had been there loads. A elf walked up to him asking if he was here for chocolate, they knew what he wanted. He nodded as the elf beckoned two bars from the fridge setting them into his hands.

"I'm guessing you like chocolate a lot," Mila said, raising her eyebrows.

Remus hummed as he ripped into the bar unwrapping it hastily. "Here c'mon, we're going outside," Mila muttered, guiding Remus by his sleeve outside the door. They walked in a few moments of silence before she tried reaching over for a piece of chocolate, but Remus was to quick and swatted her hand back.

"Hey!" he snapped, pulling the bar away from her. "Get your fingers away!"

Mila scoffed in response, "I walked with you all the way down here and you won't even give me a piece!"

Remus' words were muffled as he chewed down a piece of chocolate, "That's because I don't give my food to strangers."

"I'm not a stranger! I've known you for what, like-"

  "About 3 weeks now."

"Ok, that's not long, but that still counts!"

Remus tried not to dwell on the fact that he had indeed kept track of the amount of days he'd known her for now, so he continued to speak, "Fine, say it counts, I still don't know anything about you-well, except you seem to have a knack for finding the perfect patch of grass!" he joked as Mila softly shoved his arm. "Hey! That's a very important skill! I also have a knack for finding good trees to sit under!" Mila flaunted, smiling. "Ah yes, perfect, will keep that in mind." he noted.

Remus sighed, shoving his hands into his the pockets of his pants, "Seriously, Luna, I don't know that much about you." Mila fiddled with the box of cigarettes that still sat in the pocket of her zip-up, "So you want to know the basics of me lets see..." They now found themselves in the ground level of the school down a corridor, Mila couldn't tell if it was a new hallway she had never seen, or she had wandered down it before.

"Well, I guess, for starters, I love the color red," she said.  "Gryffindor pride sticks to you hm?" Remus commented. "Well, yes, but not really. I like a really dark red, a maroon or burgundy, a little darker than Gryffindor colors- Oh! And I love turtle neck sweaters," she exclaimed, focusing her eyes on the designs of the walls as they walked, "I don't wear them much anymore because Maisie, and Serenity told me they were 'so a decade ago,' too 60s for them I guess." she shrugged.

Remus fought of the small want to tell her not to care and wear whatever she wants. "Tell me about your friends, I don't really know about them. I'm sure you know mine though," he urged.

He watched as she chewed on her lip a bit before starting, "Uhm well there's Serenity Coleman. You've heard or seen of her I bet. Childhood friend, her parents helped us, uhm- There's Ruby Ross, she's one of my dorm mates, she's pretty cool. She's the one that gets us into parties-actually scratch that, I try not to go to many parties." Remus subconsciously broke off a piece of chocolate and handed it to her, "Why don't you go to parties?" he asked her as she softly smiled at the small act. "Well, first I don't want to be stuck in a place where kids are smoking, getting drunk, stoned, or trying to hook up with each other for hours. Actually, Gryffindor parties really do all that, Ravenclaw parties seem to be a mostly stoner type of circle where kids get stupid and share secrets they don't fully process. Hufflepuffs have a ton of alchohol, that's where Ruby gets all her drinks from, she has this one guy who's great at mixing,- Sorry off topic!" Mila flushed.

"No, it's alright, continue," Remus chuckled. "Ok, so uhm, second reason I guess I don't go to parties is because I rather read sappy romance novels while I listen to the thundering music from downstairs. Mostly I don't go because of the socializing aspect, don't get me wrong, I love to talk. I just hate people, they talk and get all up in your business, while I'm already exhausted from the day and I would really like to strangle them instead. I guess I'm a bit hypocritical in that way." she confessed, taking in a deep breath she looked to Remus, "I assume you go to parties all the time," she guessed as she chewed the next piece of chocolate Remus had handed her.

"Well, yeah. They can be pretty fun, but I get it, sometimes I do wish I could strangle someone. Sometimes we sneak into Slytherin parties, because they don't allow us to go, and then we steal a couple of things and leave," He laughed. "Really?" Mila asked. Remus chewed the inside of his cheek as he responded, "Yeah, it's quite funny, you get to see their little faces blow up red," he motioned his hands up in front of his face shaking them.

Mila giggled at his movements before she found her eyes on a random 3rd year couple making out on a bench. "Gross," she whispered "They're eating each other's faces like rabid pack animals!" she laughed as she grabbed Remus' sleeve pulling around a corner into another hallway as he tried to steal another look to see what she was talking about.

"They should practice how to correctly kiss someone!" he said, the two were pressed against the wall to peek around the corner every few seconds to see how the scene behind them would escalate. "You act as if you have any professional experience in making out with someone," Mila commented to him. "You act as if you have any professional experience in making out with a person!" Remus snapped back.

"Well for your information, Lupin, I do!" Mila stated smugly.

Remus felt a small stomach ache build up inside him, he probably shouldn't have eaten that much chocolate, that was when the two realized that Mila had somehow found her way into holding the bars of chocolate now. "Ah, so miss Mila Luna has a boyfriend now does she?" Remus questioned, breaking off a piece of the candy. "Not has, used to," she pointed out.

His stomach ache subsided a bit, maybe he had a stomach bug, "Ah, used to, got it."

They continued their afternoon together, not caring that their friends would wonder where they could've been. Though it was not likely their friends would've noticed, wrapped up in their own day of love. For them it was a day of friendship, chocolate, and making fun of strange 3rd year couples they found along the road. What a day, Valentines day. Strange.

Ah, ok so surprise, for once I kind of like this chapter. I know, mind blowing revelation! I'm trying to finished a chapter each week. I do think though that once I get them through the end of 5th year I will take a little break, and then continue the story, feed you all in portions so that I can get a break too! Other wise I get burn out, then this story will be abandoned forever.

Anyways, thank you for reading, this was quite a long chapter! I love you all so so much, byeee! c:
