The One

A girl like me seems to always believe
That there's always a bad bone in everyone's body.
People wounding my high-ticket ego make me go wild;
Yet my king and queen stand firm, convalescing me little by little.

A girl like me seems to always believe
That even when I'm a stone-cold, outlandish nobody,
I still need to stay in this body and mind of a child;
Drinking sweet tea with you from a red kettle.

Frankly, I know we've been choking on our fears,
But even if my bad blood reigns, I'll always be here
Through thick and thin, I'll stay by your side
To the million little stars and back, every night.

So, I don't know why I chose melancholia to be the one,
And why I hid and closed my brown eyes to the one;
Took off my infinity ring and lied to the one that I love.

When in reality, I know I can cry to the one,
Always confide in the righteous One,
And I can always be wild and kind to the one that I love.

To "the one" I can be blue,
To "the one" I can be true,
To "the one" I can be brand new,
And that "the one" is you.

Message: Marshmello and Halsey's newfangled song, Be Kind kindled the fire in me that made me write this poem. If you haven't heard of the song, well, I'm encouraging you to listen to it. I don't just think of the song as one for your lover alone, it can also be dedicated to friends and family. So, I used the song as gasoline to ignite the fire in my words for my parents. I know they deserve more than this, but for now, this is the least I could do. I love you both to infinity and beyond.
