Backstory:
She found out what her Quirk was in a way she would never forget. It was four months after her fourth birthday, a day that was scarred into her brain for the rest of her life.

She and her parents were having a disagreement, which was rare in the Katsuma household, but Alyssa was furious besides that. It was the usual tantrum any little kid would have (except she was usually polite), she was in trouble for staying out at the park for far too long that she hasn't noticed it was some time at night.

The moment she got home she was lectured, which resulted in the young child standing up for herself, not even taking in the fact that her parents were only worried about her. During the heated argument, the house went up in flames.

Alyssa didn't remember everything that happened but the only thing she could recall was that it was her fault. She was the one that started the fire, as the anger that ran through her veins activated a part of her Quirk, an element, fire.

She didn't even remember how she got out of there, the screams of her parents the only thing that she could make out as she stood outside her burning home. Later, the Pro Heroes arrived and put out the fire while asking her questions, which she sobbed out to them and explained what had happened.

There were no consequences for the young child (mainly because the loss of her parents was the outcome). She was then sent to an orphanage which soon despised as kids there found out what she had done and spread rumours of how she was an upcoming villain and a monster.

So every night she would sneak out and head to that same park that she went to that terrible day. There is where she met her closest friend (and soon to be criminal a few years later). His name was Dabi. Just Dabi. No last name, nothing.

His past was kept secret but she soon learned his past but never dared to speak a word about it to anyone. She explained her own past and the friendship blossomed.

As the months went by and the two kept meeting up, Alyssa was finally adopted. By the Pro Hero EraserHead. He was practically forced by All Might and other Pro Heroes to adopt her as her past was talked about between the Heroes, and they all came up with the same thing; If Alyssa were to not gain control of her Quirk, she could lose control and cause more damage than good and no one wanted her to become a villain with a power such as hers. So Alyssa was of course told this but she was glad that she was going to a good home.
She was told by her new father that the Principle of UA wanted to enroll her there when she was older to help gain control of her powers, which she of course accepted. As time went on, Dabi and Alyssa were still closer than ever, even if he was a villain (which is why she was careful sneaking out of her house everyday as she lived with a pro.)

When it was time to go to UA, she was trained by her father and prepared for a fight. There she instantly connected with the Bakuquad (even if Katsuki never admitted that she was one of his friends.)

From then on, she aimed to be the number one hero, to prove she wasn't a monster like everyone thought. She wasn't a killer. Not on purpose.
