Chapter Thirty Three: Promises
VALE

"She's flatlining!" I yelled to get the nurses and doctors into the room.

"Sir we have to ask you to leave."

"I will not." I said as I kept a hold of her hand. "...I won't leave her side again..."

"You have to let go of her hand so that we can work on her sir."

I was reluctant now but knew I had to.

I let go of her hand and stepped back, I watched as they used the electric pads to get her heart going.

They tried the machine twice before her heart rate regulated once again. They all lingered to monitor her momentarily before slowly filtering back out of the room.

Once I was alone once again I bent down and kissed her forehead, "Please come back to me Pinky."

I stood up right and watched as Mrs Reeves walked in, She began to cry as she looked at me and I moved to pull her into a tight hug."I'm sorry I wasn't there with her." I said, "I should have never asked her go to this meeting."

"It's my own fault." She sounded sadly. "Your brother informed me that he and his wife asked her to stay the evening...she just wanted to get back home."

I shook my head, "I guess there's no sense in blaming ourselves...we'll never know why she really left that night...all we can do is pray she wakes up and returns to us."

I offered her the seat next to the bed and she sat down and took her daughters hand. I took a seat one the large window seat and pulled out my phone I shot a text to my sister and Wex both, telling them I'd be staying here and for them to go on ahead and get some rest.

My sister text back that she'd return with a bag for me. Wex simply text back his thanks. I felt like shit. He'd been here since this happened and hadn't gotten proper rest or food, I owed him so much

For hours Mrs Reeves and I sat there, we'd talk, then she'd talk to Jessa. We stepped out and grabbed lunch as the nurse came in to give her a sponge bath.

"They want me to pull the plug on my daughter..." She said as she pushed her food around with the fork, "I can't...I know she's still in there somewhere."

I nodded, "She is still in there, but Jessa will come back to us when she's ready."

She nodded and took her napking to blot the corners of her eyes. "I think she wanted to get back to see you."

I nodded, "I think she did too..."

"She's in love with you Alpha Vale."

Once again I nodded, "And I'm in  love with her...I was just too wrapped up to notice my own feelings."

She looked at me, "She said you found your mate."

I hung my Head, "Shelby passed away giving birth..."

"Meaning no offense Alpha Vale...but are you only wanting my daughter now, now that your Mate is gone?"

I shook my head, "No ma'am...I know how it may seem, but I met Jessa and she stole my heart immediately, I've loved her before I ever met Shelby...Yes Shelby was my mate but Jessa was who my heart and wolf chose...and it just took me a little longer to get on the same page as my wolf...he tried tell me over and over again that we'd chosen Jessa, but I was too focused to pay attention."

She looked at me.

"Jessa was never my second choice...She was my only choice from the very beginning."

"And yet you brought your mate to the pack?"

I did." I confessed. "Shelby needed my help and as my mateI would help her in any way I could...I cared for her, and I offered her a safe place and knew I'd raise her daughter as my own...and none of that changes now that she's gone."

I continued, "She will always be my mate, the person the fates designed for me to care for and look after...but Jessa, she's who I chose to have in my life, she's who I need, She's who I want and have always wanted."

She got up and left me alone before Evie returned with my bag. There were some snacks and water bottles, clothes and more importantly my laptop and electronics cords."Thanks Sis."

"It's time you rejoined the world, and part of that is being an Alpha again...you've got a lot of work to catch up on."

I nodded and hugged her before she left me. I returned to Jessa's room and found Mrs Reeves sitting in the same seat.

I had to admit I was hesitant to rejoin them.

I didn't want to disrespect her, clearly she had strong feelings toward me. But I couldn't be away from Jessa, and no one could keep me away from her.

"I don't hate you if that's what you're thinking." She sounded before looking at me, "I care a great deal for you actually...you brought my daughter back to life when she became your assistant, it wasn't easy to watch her fall apart when her mate passed, but then she met you..."

The beeping machines silenced us and we went back to just sitting in the room silently.

Mrs Reeves put on the television but essentially had the sound off, I sat there lost in thought as I looked out the window.

After a few hours just sitting in the room, both of us in the same positions, a couple of doctors made their rounds to check on Jessa...I watched as Flora entered the room.

"Vale Honey..." She smiled as I walked over to give her a hug. "Im so glad you finally came."

I nodded, "Me too."

She turned to Mrs Reeves, "Are you ready to go back to the pack house?

"Apparently My sister inlaw was the one keeping an eye on Mrs Reeves now.

She nodded and stood up, "You'll call if there's any change?"

"Of course." I sounded wholeheartedly.

They left and not even ten minutes later a doctor came in, She introduced herself and then had one of the nurses begin removing the tubes.

"What are you doing!?" I asked mortified, where they really just giving up on her now?

"We're removing her tubes... after being brought back we've noticed that her lungs seem to be functioning properly...and for now we'll leave her on an IV for fluid intake."

I nodded and sat back.

When they left the room I pulled out my laptop and finally got my work started.

I sat there on the large window seat and began reading through the emails I had neglected.

But as the sun officially set the light from the screen seemed too bright and my eyes felt tired.

I squinted my tired eyes and pushed on, trying to get all the emails out of the way before I could move on with Missed meeting's notes.

"I told you, you need to get your eyes checked."

I looked up from my screen and saw Jessa smiling at me.

"Hey there Monkey."
