Chapter Thirty Eight: Engaged

Not wanting to rush into our Union and also because I was having too much fun just calling Vale my Fiance, we scheduled our Union with the Council for the next month.

In the mean time Vale and I were busy, He was finishing up his business with his brother as all of the money was finally paid back to Alpha Ash, I was officially moving into Vale's house, and this weekend we were finally going to have the Fall festival...the very thing that brought Vale and I together in the first place.

"You need to get going." I said as Vale and I stood in the foyer, he was holding me and he kept bending down to kiss me. "If you plan on coming back tonight you need to leave now." I laughed until he kissed me again.

This time I actually melted into his kiss.

And yes it was spectacular kissing him.

"I'm sorry I won't be here when you're moving in."

I shrugged, "It's not even a lot of stuff...mostly just the rest of my clothes and shoes...but Wex's helping me...Plus My mom's coming over to watch Joy while we get everything over here."

He nodded, "I guess I should go then."

I nodded, "We'll be right here waiting for you when you get back." I assured him.

He gave me one more kiss before he finally left, of course, I stood in the doorway and watched him off as he waved at me and he pulled out of the driveway. Once I couldn't see his car anymore I went back inside.

I went upstairs and checked on Joy even though I knew she was fast asleep, I smiled down at her and caressed her round little cheek gently with my finger. She was putting on weight nicely, and her blonde wispy hair was beginning to thicken and get a tad darker.

Vale and I expected her to have red hair similiar to her mothers (and mine).

A few weeks after I had come back from the hospital, With Vale's permission Wex and I had gone over to Shelby's house and collected all of her belongings.

She had things like clothes, trinkets, various decor pieces, pictures. I talked with Her best friend and she came down to collect the various things she wanted, and with her go ahead we went ahead and donated things like her clothes, shoes, homeware. But I urged Vale to at least keep one picture for himself, I never wanted him to try and replace her. She will always be his mate, and she is an important person who had a brief role in his life.

Other pictures we put up in Joy's room, we agreed that she would know I was not her birth mother, but that I love her just as much as if she was my own biological child.

Soon I was joined by my own mother and she joined me in the nursery.

I could tell my mother adored Joy as well. She had her reservations toward Vale and I in the beginning, mostly because she worried for us. But as time went on and our love remained the same she knew we'd be fine.

And with our engagment people around the pack seemed to sort of react the same way Wex did...a mix of 'I knew it' and relief, along with happiness of course.

"You sure you don't mind watching her?" I asked my mom as we went downstairs."Of course not...she's such a good baby."

I smiled and thanked her before I went into Mine and Vale's bedroom. I already had a lot of stuff here, I grabbed a pair of sneakers and sat on the bed to lace them up before I grabbed an eleastic band to hold my hair into a ponytail.

I found Wex waiting for me downtairs.

"Hey Hun, sorry to keep you waiting."

" I was talking to dad anyways." He said.

"Everything okay?" I wondered since there was nothing big happening otherwise Vale or I would know about it.

"Yeah, just family stuff I guess."

I could see there was something more, but he was choosing not to talk about it, therefore I knew better than to pry...I know Wex well enough to know he'd tell Vale or myself when he was ready.

We got over to my mom's house and made quick work as I was leaving all of my furniture and childhood memorablia. So when we got back to the house I found my mom and Joy sitting outside. The sunshine was good for her as Joy had a slight jaundice still when we brought her home.

Wex and I brought my boxes into the bedroom upstairs and we set them down on the floor.

"I've never been up here." He said almost giddily.

"Really?" I asked, "I snuck up here once when he was away, before we were together." I confessed.

"You missed him?"

I nodded."Hey...I really am happy for you two, I knew you both felt strongly for one another and I'm glad things worked out for the both of you."I nodded, "Thank you...I still feel a little guilty sometimes."

"You shouldn't." He offered, "Neither of you asked to fall in love with each other, nor did you ask for Shelby's passing, but it happened and at the end of the day our pack still needs a Luna so whether it was you or another She Wolf Vale would've had to be united to someone, and given his contract he had a time frame to get things done too."

I nodded "I know, and Vale and I have talked about this too...-"

"Nope...no ma'am...I am not about to sit here and listen to the whole pity party...you know I won't, you and Vale are good people and you both deserve a little happiness...and I think I speak for the pack when we say we all love you and are thankful to FINALLY be getting a Luna, so don't fuck it up Pinky." He finished with a smirk.

I nodded.

"Now lets get this closet situated." He said as he grabbed a box of my shoes." I followed his lead and grabbed one of the wardrobe boxes and dragged it into the closet.

When it was all said and done all of my belongings were put into one side of the closet and Vale's on the other.

"There...complete." Wex smiled.

Once we walked out of the closet he stopped me from leaving the room by asking me a very real question.

"Are you ready for all of this Pinky?"

I nodded wholehearted, "Yes...I'd do anything for Vale and this pack, and call me conceited but I think I've been doing a pretty good job so far."

"Of course you have." he smiled softly.

Then it clicked, he and his father had a talk about family business...we all knew George would be stepping down sooner or later...seems it would be sooner than we were expecting.

"But this question doesn't have anything to do with me does it?" I asked gently.

Wex took in a deep breath and shook his head, "Dad decided he's stepping down after the Union between you and Vale...thinks it would be good for the pack to not only be presented a new Luna but also a new Beta...only, I don't know if I'm ready."

"Wexler...you are more than ready." I said with a smile. "Hun, you and I have done so much for the pack already, from restoration projects, fundraising...who ran those patrols during the Rogue issue...and more importantly... who silently ran this pack while I was in a coma and Vale was indisposed?"

He knew the answer.

"That was all you Hun...you do what you have to without even being asked to, you are so selfless and courageous..." I laughed a little, "And as absurd as it may be, actually very humble...but I have no doubts whatsoever that you are ready to do this because you're already doing it silly...Now come on before I tell you what Vale and I did last night in the closet we were just in."

"Ugh...nasties."

To be honest Vale and I had gone through all of his clothes and sorted what to keep and what to donate...we made love later in the bed...but Wex didn't need to know that.
