Chapter Seventeen: Sock Hop (Pt. One)

When Saturday rolled around

I was ready for the dance, I just needed to have a good time and not really think about anything.

First I got the call from James saying how he'd think it's in mom's best interest to move with him, and now Mom is honestly thinking about it because she doesn't want to be a burden to me.

Then out of nowhere Wex started acting weird yesterday.

I really hope I didn't do or say anything that upset him.

At least Vale was still the same ol' monkey, I was glad I could rely on him. Although I did feel a little bad about bringing up mom to him...Last thing I wanted was for him to worry about us...he has so many other things on his plate right now.

As I drove home that afternoon I was more than a little worried about the dance though knowing that a lot of Vale's family would be in town, and I hoped that I had done enough to impress them and make enough money for the Senior community.

I pulled up to my house and sat in the car, I really needed a friend right now, I knew I couldn't call Vale since he'd more than likely be having dinner with his family before the dance.

I pulled up Wex's number and called him, it rang for a while and I was about to hangup when he finally answered.

"Hey...you busy?"

"Nah what's up pinky?" He asked.

"Wanna get ready at my place?" I asked. "I'm kinda starting to freak out about tonight."

"Don't freak out everything is going to be great...I'll grab my outfit and be over hun, do you need anything while i'm out?"

"Nah, I've got food and stuff here at the house, you hungry...I can whip something up really quick." I said as I got out of the car and let myself into the house."

"Um...whatcha got?"

"Hold on, I'm just walking in..." I admitted as I reached the kitchen. I opened the refrigerator and freezer doors. "I've got... frozen pizza and a shit load of stuff for salad."

"Yeah heat up the pizza and i'll bring something too." He said before we hung up.

I put my stuff down and washed my hands before popping the pizza into the oven and kicking my heels off.

I sat on the sofa and looked around the house, it was empty since mom was with James until the end of next week, normally she visits her friend on Saturday to play bridge and gossip.

It didn't take Wex long to get to my house and I hugged him as he walked in.

"I brought wine." He smiled cutely.

"Wine and frozen pizza." I sounded.

"I have a feeling we're going to need some alcohol to get through this evening." He said. "I've never met the Graystones."

I looked at him,"Everything okay Wex?"

"Yeah, Why?"

I shook my head, "I just feel like you've been avoiding me or something?"

He smiled and shook his head, "Just know how much you have to do...don't want to get in your way."

"You are never in my way...if anything I depend on you for a lot actually." I said as I got some glasses out for the wine. "You know honestly I think we're the backbone of the pack." I teased.

"You can said that again." He mumbled as he pour some wine into the glasses.

"I'm only joking...the pack is well off because everyone does their part, and Vale's a great Alpha so it makes our job sorta easy."

He looked at me and handed me a glass, "drink up girl...I know I am."

Together we sat talked some more and once the pizza was done we ate before we went up to change into our 50's inspired outfits. Wex used the guest room and I went into my own bedroom.

I pulled on the all black ensemble that consisted of super tight leather capri style pants, a blackmuscle shirt and plain black flats. I styled my hair into victory rolls with half of it pinned up and back while I curled the rest to have a more pin-up look. I moved on to my make-up and that's when Wex knocked on the bedroom door and made his way into the room.

"Oooh someone looks so slick." I commented and he lightly ran his hands over his perfectly sculpted quaffed hairstyle.

"And it only took two can of hairspray." He said as he made a cute puckered face before he took a seat on my bed and talked to me while I did my make up. I was going for a classic look so I focused on an even black liner with a small wing and a bold matte red lip.

"You look amazing hun."

I smiled and turned to face him, "Me...look at you." I complimented him again.

He smiled and rolled his eyes, "I mean, I always look good though."

I laughed and shook my head, I wish I was nearly as confident as He was.

After I finished up my make-up I pulled on the Pink Ladies jacket I had ordered online.

"You ready?" He asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be...this is my first pack event and I just hope it'll go smoothly and hopefully it'll memorable."

"I'm sure it will be Pinky...now we gotta go or you're going to be late."

{ Vale }

"Sorry...Sorry." Titus said as he walked into my office and closed the door behind him. "I know I said I'd get the contract emailed to you sooner but I got called back to Northern Stone for business so i've been hectically busy."

I nodded my understand, "Life happens right?"

Despite being pissed I couldn't appear so otherwise he'd know there was more to this transfer than just adding another random new member.

"But here you go." He said as he laid out the contract in front of me before talking me through it.

"This basically outlines what we talked about, saying I...Write in your name here." He said as he pointed to the designated line.

I grabbed my pen and wrote in my name.

"Uh... agree to allow, Me...and I've already written my name in...allow Titus Graystone to begin collecting Bridal Candidates for a Union portfolio...If I, your name here."

Once again I filled in my name and he continued.

"If I, Vale do not inform the council of finding and marking a true mate within the next 182 days (6 months). I, your name...also give Me, Titus Graystone full permission to present the Union Portfolio to the council in which I will select a She-wolf as the Luna of Reed River Pack, A Union Ceremony will be held and a marking of the new Luna of Reed River Pack will commence to seal the Union contract.

I nodded and watched as Titus signed his name on the appointed line and then he passed the contract to me. I took in a deep breath, it was finally going to happen.

I could hardly contain my happiness as I knew once I signed this and faxed it off it was another step closer to Shelby finally moving out here.

Titus pat my back as I finished signing and walked the contract over to the fax machine and sent it over immediately. "Now it's on you  brother...find your girl, mark your girl, present her as your Luna."

I recieved the confirmation fax and knew it went through successfully and afterward went upstairs to get ready for the dance.

We got to the highschool before sunset so i still had my sunglasses on me. I waited outside for Jessa or Wex to arrive as I didn't want to go in and socialize with the same family members who'd been bugging me all day about various things from changes to my pack to mate talks.

I was on edge.

More so, I felt antsy...like my wolf needed to run because we were excited about having our mate join us sooner rather than later.

I figured now more than ever I needed my full team behind me on this...Wex knew already so I just had to bring Jessa up to speed.

Movement caught my eye and I looked up to find Wex and Jessa making their way toward me.

Of course my eyes fell on Jessa, She looked every bit a pink lady as she had gone all out with her costume, whereas I just pulled some clothes from my closet that I felt looked suitable to fit the theme of tonight.

"Hey" she sounded.

I smiled and pushed myself off the wall I was leanin on to pull her into a hug, "you look good."

"Thanks, you too...everyone make it into town alright?" She asked, I picked up a slight nervousness in her voice as she hugged me.

I nodded, "they're inside if you both want to meet them." I said as we pulled apart.

"Actually I'm gonna make a call...you two go ahead." Wex sounded.

Jessa looked at him with worry and I couldn't help but wonder what he was up to? But I escorted Jessa inside to introduce her to the members of my family she hadn't met yet.
