Special chapter: Rosie
Special chapter: Rosie
<><><>
At the age of two whole years, there were a myriad of accomplishments Rosie had worked hard to earn. Walking, talking. Distinguishing colors and people. Using the potty. Well, she was still working on that one. Sometimes accidents happen.
On the outside looking in, her life was mundane, normal. But from her eyes, life was a magical, colorful place filled with all her favorite people, Disney princesses, unicorns and baby sharks. Every morning she woke with this great burst of energy that ran out around lunch time so she had to recharge.
After nap time, it was go, go, go! There was so much to do. So many toys to play with. Though admittedly her favorite thing was the empty boxes that the toys came in. Those were magical castles, a tent in the wilderness, a cave made of ice and sparkles. They weren't limited to certain colors and sounds. Not as long as she could imagine. Empty boxes were whatever her imagination could conjure up.
Rosie was a happy little girl. There wasn't really anything in her life that she disliked, except for vegetables. Especially cucumbers. Those were the worst. Apart from being forced to eat vegetables, her life was a good one. She had a fun mom who stayed home with her and played pretend and would teach her all the important things. Her dad she really liked because he would do things like put her on his shoulders to make her feel like she was flying, and he would have tea parties with her and all her favorite stuffed animals.
Rosie liked to think of her mom and dad as the king and queen, because obviously, she was a princess. The building they lived in was a castle. There was her big brother, Seo-Joon, who was actually a dragon and he guarded the castle. Once she had asked him why the witch cursed him and made him a dragon, but he tried to say he wasn't a dragon. Which was wrong. Seo-Joon was a dragon and no one could tell her different. Rosie was very knowledgeable in this subject.
And last but not least, was her favorite and the best person ever, her unnie. Or as Rosie liked to call her, her true loves darling.
Not that she held a lot of memories, but Unnie was the first person she could remember rocking her to sleep. She was the one that would always reach for her when she cried, unlike her oppa who would pass her back off to mom. Unnie was the one who taught her the magic of empty boxes and the one that never got angry or raised her voice. Unnie was a soft pillow in a world full of rocks.
But now this big meany Jimin was trying to steal her away! How dare this lord Farquad character walk into her house and try to take her person!
When they first met, Rosie liked this Jimin. He killed an eight legged dragon right in front of them! It was amazing! She thought it was so amazing that she gave him one her stickers. Now, she wasn't really feeling this guy.
They sat on the sofa together, Rosie in her footie pajamas and sitting in sister's lap. Her arms and legs were wrapped tightly around her torso and she was sort of hiding behind the wild curls of hair that hung over her eyes. She didn't know why, but there something about the way Jimin looked at her unnie that she didn't like.
Really, she hated it. He looked like her loved her, but Rosie didn't want that. If he loved her, he might take her away to his own castle!
"Do you remember Jimin?" Y/n's hand gingerly removed the hair from Rosie's eyes so she could see properly.
In answer she gave out a tiny, "yeah," and Jimin smiled at her.
"I still have the sticker you gave me!" He pulled out his phone to show her Ariel on his phone case. "All of my friends like it. I told them that a princess gave it to me and they were amazed."
So he knew she was princess! This Jimin guy was smarter than she thought. With a smile she cuddled further into her unnie's hug, wrapping one fist around a chunk of her hair. Now that she thought about it, her big sister might be Rapunzel.
"Unnie is too." She told him matter of factly. "She a pwincess."
"I know." He nodded in agreement. "She's the prettiest one I ever saw."
There he went, smiling at her unnie like she had his heart. Rosie was uncomfortable with that, but didn't know why. But he was right. Y/n was the prettiest.
Feeling weird about this strange prince coming into their home and looking at her sister, she hugged her tighter. Her hug was reciprocated as Y/n pulled her closer and kissed the top of her head.
"Rosie, Jimin is unnie's boyfriend. Do you know what that is?"
Rosie's heat sank when she heard that. She didn't know what it meant though, so she shook her head in the negative.
"It means that Jimin is a really good friend that I might...hold hands with or hug or kiss sometimes."
Oh no. Rosie really did not like this. Not one bit. She had opened her mouth to beg unnie to never kiss Jimin again, until another thought hit her. Something so terrible that she had to ask, even though she was terrified to.
"Unnie?" She must have sounded scared because both Y/n and Jimin immediately asked what was wrong. "I-" she tried to tell Y/n, but her bottom lip shook and she had to take a second to calm down. Mommy always told her how important that was.
"You gotta boyfwend. But can Wosie still mawwy unnie when I gwow up?"
Her big sister paused and blinked at her a couple times. She seemed about to reply when suddenly Jimin answered first.
"No. You can't marry your sister."
Rage filled the toddler like an erupting volcano. "NUH-UH!! I MAWWY UNNIE! SHE ALWEADY SAID I COULD!"
"Whoa-" Y/n tried to de-escalate the situation by rubbing her back but Jimin was looking at her intently.
"You told your little sister you would marry her?" He asked seriously.
Rosie was quick to reply. "Yeah! Ten, two times ago!" She held up three fingers to demonstrate.
"Red, say something." The adults looked at one another, one growing irritated while the other was less concerned and trying to calm the toddler down.
"Rosie, look at me." She tried but Rosie wasn't ready to listen.
"She's not a wed, she my twue loves dawing!!"
"Aww," Y/n pinched her baby sister's cheeks while Jimin scoffed. "I'm your true loves darling, ok? Now let's calm down and talk about this-"
"Tell her you won't marry her!" Jimin cut in and Rosie glared at him. She really wanted him to go away.
"Unnie mawwy me. Not you. Poopyhead."
"Rosie!" Y/n's admonished and she instantly wanted to cry. Why couldn't she see that Jimin was an evil prince?? "That's not nice."
"Stinky!" Jimin bit back and Y/n scolded him too.
"Jimin! She's a baby!"
"Tell her you won't marry her!" Was his reply.
The two sisters looked at one another. The longer Y/n stared at Rosie's curly hair, her chubby cheeks and hopeful eyes, she couldn't find it in her deny her baby sister anything. Instead she said to Jimin, "let's talk about this later."
As she cuddled her true loves darling once more, Rosie couldn't help but to stick her tongue out at the evil prince Jimin.
He gasped at the audacity of the toddler and replied in the most mature way he knew how.
Go ahead. Go back and read that again. You know how.
"I'm going to marry your unnie and there's nothing you can do to stop me! And when I marry her that means I can kiss her whenever I want, so I will! She's mine! Not yours! I won't let anyone take her!"
"JIMIN!" Y/n was really mad now but Rosie didn't notice.
This had rapidly turned from meeting her sister's boyfriend to an evil prince trying to steal her favorite person. In her head a storyline had already developed of this evil man where he kidnapped her unnie and took her to his ugly dungeon castle and all he would ever give her poor unnie to eat was cucumbers. If this happened, they would have to go save her, obviously. She had faith in Seo-Joon to save the day since he could turn into a dragon and all.
But right now? Now she had to fight. Even though his words hurt her heart, she wouldn't give up.
"Go away, meany! Unnie is mine!"
"Stop-" Y/n tried to interrupt but neither were listening.
"She's mine, kid. M-I-N-E. Can you even spell it?"
"That's enough-"
"HUSH! You a bad man!"
"Call me whatever you want but I'm still going to marry her!"
"Both of you, stop-"
Rosie closed her eyes and clenched her fists. She tried to remember what mommy said about how it was okay to be angry, but it wasn't ok to hit. It wasn't ok to call people names. It wasn't ok to yell and scream at anyone. But this Jimin guy was really trying her today. The anger was so much for her little body to take, that she started shaking.
"No!! Unnie is mine!! You stop dis!"
"Sweetie, calm down-"
"Y/n, tell her you're mine!"
Y/n looked at Jimin with a look that said she found him to be completely stupid. Rosie was done.
"You go away! I no wike you!" And then she did what her mom always told her not to do. She hit him. He just sat there and it didn't look like it hurt him, but the second she did it, she knew it was wrong. Still, knowing that didn't help when her favorite person snapped at her at her for it.
"Yoon Rosie! What did you just do?!? Did you just hit him?" At her slow nod, she sniffled and looked down at her lap. "That was not nice. Hitting is bad and it hurts other people's feelings. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Tears flooded her eyes, a loud cry accompanying it. What was happening today? All she wanted all week was to see her big sister and when she finally got to, this evil prince was here and trying to take her away. It was too much for a toddler to handle. But when her unnie said her name with so much disappointment, that was her breaking point. They were all being so mean! Why?
She was supposed to say sorry, but even though Rosie did feel bad about hitting him, she didn't want to say it. First she wanted to know why her unnie was taking the evil prince's side. He started it! Why wasn't he in trouble?
It made her so sad. And angry. It wasn't fair. Her unnie promised to marry her already, she shouldn't break her promises! Then another thought hit Rosie. Since her unnie had a boyfriend now, did this mean that...unnie didn't want to be her true loves darling anymore?
And it was all because this evil prince. She was supposed to say sorry to him? Forget it! If her unnie wanted to run away from this castle and live in a ugly dungeon with a mean prince, then she could! Rosie would be just...fine...without...her...
"Ssshh." Y/n attempted to console the toddler the more distressed she got, but Rosie escaped her from lap and was ready to make the most dramatic exit she could. "Hey, come back here-"
"No!" She wailed. "Unnie don't love me no more and—and—I hate unnie!!" With a show of theatrics, Rosie whirled around and went toddling away in her footie pajamas, intent on leaving forever and going to live in the woods in a house made of candy with two witches who might be kind of enough to teach her their trade. That is, until her sister's voice stopped her from leaving the room. She was using her scary voice that Rosie was not too fond of.
"Rosie," the sternness of her voice was so compelling that she had to look back. Unnie's eyes were very scary. "When you're ready to apologize, I'll be right here." Even the way she pat the sofa when she said that was powerful. How did adults do that?
More importantly, how was she going to survive in the woods? The witches might be mean and eat her! That, and...HOW COULD SHE LIVE WITHOUT HER UNNIE? IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE!
The run back was ten times as dramatic as the walk away had been. "UNNIE!! I'M SOWWY! I WOVE YOU!!"
Unnie opened her arms wide to catch her as she jumped back into her lap. Rosie couldn't stop herself from crying. This was more drama than her tiny self could handle. And of course, her unnie's reaction to her apology proved that Y/n belonged on the pedestal that Rosie had placed her on.
"I know, honey. I forgive you. Sometimes we have bad days and lose control of our emotions. Saying I hate you is really bad, but I'm proud of you for saying sorry. And remember, unnie will always forgive you, and unnie will always love you."
It took a while for Rosie to calm down and stop crying and when she did, she had the sniffles. Y/n cleaned her face with a tissue and helped her blow her nose before speaking again.
"Now. What do we need to say to Jimin?"
Rosie moved her gaze over to the evil prince and her expression turned sour. She really wanted to tell him again that unnie was hers, but said unnie was watching her intently and Rosie didn't want to let her down. "I sowwy I hit you, Shimin."
At least the evil prince looked like he felt bad. He looked about ready to reply but unnie spoke before he could.
"And Jimin, what do you need to say?"
The grown man looked just as rebuked as the toddler. He looked to Y/n guiltily and then back to Rosie. "I'm sorry for being mean to you. Adults aren't supposed to do that. Can we be friends?"
Rosie wasn't so sure about that. She wasn't about to forget that this evil prince was trying to take her favorite person. So she shrugged in response to the question. It was the best she could do at the moment. After, she peaked up to see what her sister thought of that response to see that she smiling encouragingly at her. It was then that she remembered what she was most afraid of and Rosie knew that she had to ask.
Casting an untrusting look to the evil prince next to them, she gently tugged on unnie's hair to indicate that she wanted to tell her a secret. Y/n caught on to the fact and leaned down so that her ear was to the toddler's mouth.
She looked at Jimin one more time before whispering, "if unnie gotta boyfwend, you no my twue wove's dawing anymore?"
Rosie's big sister gasped and then quickly squeezed her into a hug. "Of course not!! I will always be your true love's darling! Jimin doesn't want to change that. Right, Jimin?"
Both girls looked to him and he nodded automatically. "That's right. Your unnie is my girlfriend, but she's your true love's darling."
"Ahuh!" In an instant the toddler was happy with the world again. Animatedly she nodded and bounced on her sister's lap. "Unnie is mine and we gonna be mawwied and wive in a castle togefer!"
Jimin scowled and was about to say something, but snapped his mouth shut at the look Y/n shot him.
Rosie didn't notice that though. She was so happy! All was good, unnie was still hers and her whole future had been planned out. There was definitely no way that she would grow up and change those plans.
