15) Of Awkwardness and Baby Sharks

Date: ‪October 26th‬
Time: ‪7:47pm‬
Location: Y/n's living room
Mood: Awkward to the max
<><><>

Sitting in the living room in her own home, Y/n felt more uncomfortable and awkward than she ever had in her entire life.

Jimin on her left side glared heavily over at Jackson, seated on her right. How had this happened, again?

Oh yes.

The evening had started off normally enough. Her parents had expressed their desire for a date night so she had sent them off. ‪Friday night‬, at home, dressed in more layers than needed, responsibly finishing up her homework so that she would have the weekend free (to study more), and babysitting her kid sister. Her life was the opposite of mundane. She was living the high life!

...now go back and read that in a sarcastic tone.

High life, low life, whatever you would call it, it was the life Y/n was comfortable with. Maybe somewhat tiresome, what with listening to the baby shark song 500 times in a row and Rosie's constant, "Unnie watch dis!"

"Unnie watch dis!!!" For the umpteenth time Y/n shifted her attention from the physics paper she was working on to watch Rosie perform a somersault.

After applauding and oooing and awing over how amazing that was, she moved back to the more important work at hand.

It wasn't easily finished while being climbed on like a jungle gym. Three times she saved the toddler from breaking her neck with a quick hand and mommy instincts, but that was all in a day's work for a big sister.

Finally finished, she put everything away and stood to stretch. A squeak of the couch springs was all that alerted her to the next disaster. Turning quickly, she caught Rosie mid-air as she flew backwards from the couch.

Sometimes she wondered if the kid was trying to kill herself.

"Yay, Unnie!!" Unaware of any danger, the toddler cheered from her upside down position.

"Rosie, it's time for bed."

"Nooooo!! Imma big gurl, I don't need it."

"Alright," she sighed and put her sister back on her feet. Drooping her shoulders, she shuffled away, feigning sadness. "I guess if you aren't going to be a good girl, then you don't need a bedtime story. Sad. I thought big girls went to bed without a fuss."

"Unnie!!" Y/n tried not to smile at the little hands tugging at the ends of her shirt. "Unnie, I good! I want stories! I go ta bed!"

Pretending to wipe away tears, she looked down at the little girl's worried expression.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!" Grabby hands were made in her direction, a bid to be picked up.

"You'll be good?"

"Yes!"

"Oh...ok then. If you're sure." Once Rosie was back in her arms the toddler gave her the sloppiest kiss that left a large, wet imprint.

"Unnie, don't be sad. I lub you too mush." The rest of the way to bed was spent enduring Rosie's highly affectionate kisses and another round of the baby shark song. Y/n would never wish harm on anybody, but sometimes she wished she could find who wrote that song so as to send them a strongly worded letter.

The pink walls of the toddler's bedroom seemed to shine brightly, despite the dim lighting of the small lamp at her bedside. Once in her pj's she was tucked in, wild curls spilling across the pillow, a sippy cup under one arm and a pair of sleepy eyes blinking up at her expectantly. The sight of her little sister appearing so adorable without even trying made her heart thump with fondness.

"Cindawewa?" she questioned while a small fist rubbed at her eyes.

With a nod, she began, adding in her own plot points for the toddler's pleasure. This included a lot of Cinderella and her sisters trying to talk about their feelings because fighting was 'no nice', and also because Rosie was terrified of the original, more abusive rendition. In addition, Y/n made the otherwise useless fairy god mother, useful and had her turn her family into baby sharks so they could all sing together because why not.

"When she ran out of the ball, she lost her glass shoe-"

"Unnie?"

"Yes?"

"Why da gwass shoe not bweak?"

Y/n paused, just now wondering that herself. Was the shoe actually plastic, or was Cinderella malnourished enough that her weight couldn't even crush an aluminum can? Probably the latter.

"It...was plexiglass." Cinderella wore bullet proof shoes. The truth had now been told.

"Pwexigwass? Was dat?"

"Magic glass."

Soon after, the little girl had slipped off into dreamland, leaving Y/n to wonder if ‪7pm‬ on a ‪Friday night‬ was considered too early to head off to bed herself. Feeling drowsy she settled on the sofa, flipping through the channels in search for that Nas concert HBO had been showing.

"-Satan jigs the planet, not to get too religious, but who decides when and if your life is finished?"

Happy to find one her favorite rappers on tv, she snuggled deeper into her green hoodie, pulling the hood up and putting both hands in the front pocket.

Naturally, that's when someone buzzed at the door. The first worry was Rosie trying to sleep down the hall so she answered as quickly as she could, maybe a bit rashly seeing as how she didn't bother to check the monitor to see who was outside.

"J-Jimin!"

Jimin had barely spoken the last two days, though he had been present at work. Offering her a smile every now and then, buying her soda when she insisted that he shouldn't (but secretly wishing he would), and offering her words of greeting and at the end of the day, goodbyes. The tension between them had eased off to an extent, but she kept waiting for him to slip up. Watching to see if his eyes lingered longer than was polite. Waiting for him to do some silly, strange, Jimin thing. None of that had occurred. For two days he had been a normal person for a change, and to her surprise she was slowly becoming more accustomed to his presence.

As usual he lit up once he saw her, his eyes turning to happy crescents. Just as quickly his expression dropped, his hands thrusting forward. "I'm not trying to be creepy! I'm not here for a visit, or to bother you! It's just—you forgot this and I thought it might be important."

It was. The absurdly priced university textbook cost an arm and leg and she couldn't afford to lose it. She could have hit herself for forgetting something that important at work.

"Thank you," she breathed in relief, reaching to take it from him. Their fingers brushed and that same scary-wonderful spark hit her fingertips, causing her breath to stick in her lungs and for the stupid expensive book to fall to the ground when she jerked away.

Jimin opened his mouth to say—something, it didn't matter. She held up a hand, her ears twitching towards Rosie's room. After some time she deemed it safe and she turned back, only for a small cry to echo down the hall.

"Just a sec-" and like that she was gone, not noticing Jimin's look of awe at her rate of speed.

It didn't take long to get the toddler back down. All she wanted was a cuddle from her Unnie and an assurance that there were no monsters under the bed. Y/n double checked just to make sure. By the time she arrived back to the front door, Jimin and now Jackson were standing just inside of it, glaring heavily at one another.

"Jack-Jackson! Hi. How, I mean, w-why—what brings y-you here?" Why did she always have to be so damn awkward around him? The flush on her face was more out of embarrassment at her own perceived loser status than anything else.

Jimin's allergies were acting up again. That same strange coughing sound was rumbling low in his throat. Idly she debated on asking if he would like some herbal tea. But really, she wanted to get back to Nas in time to hear Ether. The sooner they both left, the better. Unfortunately, Y/n was too polite and afraid of hurting their feelings to make that well known. Ironic considering the song she wanted to hear.

"I said I'd visit, right?" Jackson grinned and lifted two potted herb plants. "I brought you gifts. I know how you like the smelly ones."

Blinking in surprise at the green leaves he presented, she completely failed to notice the gloating smile in Jimin's direction, and the snarl he returned. It was surprising that Jackson had paid enough attention to her for him to know that much about her likes and dislikes. While she loathed the sight of dead flowers put into an arrangement, something alive that she could take care of was exactly what she enjoyed. That they could make her room smell nice was an added bonus. The gesture was sweet, and while she still didn't feel those happy tingles she used to when around him, Y/n appreciated the thought and gratefully accepted his gift.

Happily she skipped back to the living room to place them on the coffee table. Naturally while missing the near death match in both men's eyes.

"Y/n!" Jimin suddenly asked, "where's Chimmy? Didn't you say you loved that gift I gave you?"

Mouth partly ajar in bewilderment, her first instinct was to tell the truth and admit that Rosie had stolen Chimmy and was currently cuddling him in her sleep. Oddly, a larger part of her recognized a sort of desperation in his eyes and so she nodded, not even sure why she was doing so.

Jimin's reaction in the form of a proud smirk Jackson's way was immediate. Not sure why she was doing so, Y/n ducked her head as she blushed.

"I can speak seven languages!" Jackson countered, and Y/n's mouth dropped lower in astonishment. And people said she was smart?

A frustrated whine came from Jimin who seemed to struggle for a second before declaring, "I have a cat!"

Y/n gasped. He had a kitty?!? "Really?" She breathed in excitement. Cat, dog, bear, jellyfish, it didn't matter what animal it was to her (unless it was a spider), if it wasn't a Homosapien, then she automatically loved it.

"I DO!" Without another word he whipped out his phone and started swiping through his photos to show Y/n his cat, Chim Chim.

She gasped at the first picture. A kitten, all gray with white feet and tummy, she lay on her back, all four limbs spread out and a forgotten toy on her chest as she was fast asleep. The next one had Y/n placing a hand over her mouth to contain a squeal. Chim Chim peaking out from a box, head titled and blue eyes wide with innocence. The third had her ready to collapse. The kitten fast asleep again, except this time on top of Jimin's head and curled into the cutest ball anyone would ever see.

"I..." Jackson struggled for words. This was unfair. He was too busy for pets. He did, however, know more about Y/n. "I saw Nicki Minaj in concert!"

"What!" she gasped again, now feeling slightly light headed with all these twists and turns...if that's what you could call it.

"And I have pictures!" Jackson declared triumphantly as Y/n raced to his side to look at his phone.

Admittedly, she'd used to be jealous of the rapper due to Jackson's unabashed crush on her. But the more she listened to her music the more she forgot about the imaginary competition.

Poor Jimin and his allergies started acting up more now that she was at Jackson's side. Worriedly, she lifted her gaze to his furious one and wondered why he was so angry over being sick. Strangely he only seemed to be looking at Jackson, as if he was the one who caused seasonal sickness.

"Here, lets sit down and I'll tell you all about it, Y/n." Jackson motioned for her to sit on the sofa and she complied, peaking over at his phone when he sat next to her.

"I want to hear about it too!" Jimin declared, sitting so close on her other side that their knees knocked together.

Realizing the situation, she nervously tugged at the hood on her head and attempted to shrink inward to reduce her size. How had she gotten here? With some alarm she became aware of the slight shake in her legs and forced them to sit still.

"Mister Park, didn't you say you were leaving?" Jackson asked over the top of her head so she failed to notice the competitive gleam in his eye.

"I-" he faltered in his response, casting a glance Y/n's way who met it before he quickly looking elsewhere. "If Y/n wants me to." His gaze directed pointedly at her hands. Silently he shifted until they were further apart, heeding his wolf's words to give her space.

While this whole thing was uncomfortable, strangely Jimin being here made it a touch endurable. She had crushed hard on Jackson for a hot minute, but had never been left alone with him for much time. Seo-Joon had always managed to mysteriously appear when they met. Jimin was weird and she could hardly understand him, but his being here reminded her of that little content puzzle piece in her mind. Forget not understanding Jimin, Y/n could hardly understand herself.

"You can stay." Her soft voice had shock forming on Jimin's face, right before it turned into full blown beaming.

Now Jackson had allergies. Unfortunate how that happens to some people.

"FUCK JAY-Z!"

All of their attention shot to the TV and this time only Y/n looked excited. Ignoring the two men and all their seasonal sneezing, coughing and growling woes, she turned up the volume to hear one of the best diss tracks all time.

Jimin observed in quiet fascination as his mate became engrossed in the lyrics of a song he'd never heard before, but immediately ascertained to be of a non-friendly nature. The lyrics were clear and precise, insults thrown but in a calm and calculative way as though to slowly chip away until every last piece was gone.

His tiny, cute, bashful mate...clearly enthralled with a profanity laced and quite honestly mean song confused him, but did nothing to diminish his love for her. If anything, the complexity of her character intrigued him more than ever. He could have looked at her all night. If her brother hadn't come home.

"What the fuck is going on here?"
