Singapore Trip (Part 3)
We reached the hotel a bit later than the supposed schedule if I remember correctly, cause of the rain at Universal Studios. But definitely not as late as the night before. We pulled up into a different hotel for night 2. Coincidentally, kids from another school were also spending the night at the same hotel as we did, so the hotel lobby was pretty jam packed for the night.
While waiting to get the keys to our rooms, me and some classmates were sitting next to an old lady who was probably staying at the hotel. Either way, she asked us where were we from. And to say I didn't have a mini panic attack trying to think of an answer would be lying. My classmate helped answer we were from Kuala Lumpur though, so disaster averted.
For night 2, the sleeping arrangement had changed. So instead of sharing a room with 2 other kids including my mess of a partner, I'm grouped with 3 other kids from my class to form a group of 4. This time, the hotel room was much more bigger, and we had a double bed (about the same size as the bed from the night before) and a single bed. So this time a group of 4 kids were expected to share that space.
Well through the experience of getting 2 hours of sleep the night before, I decided I ain't having any of that crap, and instantly volunteered to sleep on the floor. Seriously, you can't pay me to share a bed with anyone anymore.
There weren't any extra blankets though, so I settled with a towel for my blanket. I don't remember getting an extra pillow though, so I think I probably just slept on the floor without a pillow. I was perfectly fine with this setting, which was pretty odd now when I think of it, since I have scoliosis (wonky spine syndrome). I wonder why I didn't feel that much of a problem sleeping on the hard floor, huh.
Either way, everything was going fine and we all went to sleep. Then the room got cold. Really cold.
For some reason, the air-conditioning went a bit haywire and was blasting 22°C for the entire night. And you can't really trust a group of 12 year old girls to solve problems like this. So while my classmates were complaining of how cold it was underneath a layer of thick hotel blanket, I was freezing my butt off on the floor with a towel as my blanket.
Long story short, I think I got probably 2 hours of sleep again, tops. In the present I wonder why the heck didn't I just say "I just realized my spine is saying no to this uncomfortable sleeping arrangement" and just switch with the kid who got dibs on the single bed by herself.
The next day was honestly the best day out of the three days I had, which is probably pretty sad now when I think of it. We got up, and headed out to the buffet room to have breakfast. And here is case 63 of Why You Should Not Trust 12 Year Olds With Their Own Hotel Rooms:
Yeah, we predictably locked ourselves out of our hotel room. Why on earth did adults think we'd actually be responsible enough to hold our own hotel rooms without getting locked out???
We just straight up decided that's a problem for about an hour later, so we went down to have our breakfast. And then found a way to deal with it afterwards.
Apparently we weren't the first group of idiot kids who locked themselves out of their hotel room, cause our teachers looked like they've heard the same news for at least ten times that morning already when we walked up to them to ask for help. They just told us to get another key card from the counter, and problem solved.
We packed up our stuff, and got on the bus to go back to school. Most of the trip was pretty mundane though, so eh. We stopped by somewhere at Johor to buy otak-otak and biscuits as souvenirs.
Either way, we got back to school somewhere at the evening, and I went home to have a proper 8 hour long sleep. So the end to this story was pretty anticlimactic, but eh, whatever.
You can tell from even my watered down version of this story that 12 year old me hated this trip with all her heart, and she'd probably be furious I'm putting this story more on a neutral spotlight. But knowing 12 year old me's temper, I really don't care about that. If you guys are interested on her perspective of the story, just whip out my random book (the one with a pink flower for the cover) and read those chapters instead. Don't say I didn't warn you, 12 year old me was pretty cringe worthy, even if she doesn't know that yet.
Oh yeah, I forgotten to add. Two of my classmates who shared a room with me that night got sick afterwards when we had to go home. One of the biggest fantasies us 12 year old kids had when waiting for this away-from-home trip was that we were able to make Maggi cup by ourselves and eat together without our parents judging us. So me and my classmates all packed some Maggi cup before the trip and we took them out the 2nd night and cooked them ourselves.
Turns out, I was glad I choose chicken broth over tomyam or curry instead, cause apparently the curry one had expired, and the tomyam one contained prawns, which my classmate was allergic too. (Actually, what am I talking about. The girl was allergic to so many things it was surprising she survived long enough to be the student of the year.) Long story short, both classmates had stomach aches the next day. And I come to the rescue with some medicine my grandma insisted I brought along despite me giving about 50 reasons why it's unnecessary. So my grandma has future vision apparently.
