*8* First meeting... I can't forget him
Three years earlier...
The day couldn't start any worse for Gemini. The fifteen-year-old hurriedly put on his school uniform and grabbed his backpack from the chair, looking quickly around the room to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. Everything was in its place, an aquarium with colorful fish was on a cabinet against a gray wall, next to an illuminated globe and under the table of the periodic table, crayons and pencils, which he had used for his chemistry homework the night before, were scattered in disarray on the desk. Fragrant and pressed uniform shirts hung neatly on a rack by the desk, and right next to a large, comfortable bed, which could easily fit three people, covered with navy blue sheets with white stars, on a small white nightstand by a lamp of lava lay his phone, connected to the charger. He ran to get it.
He was usually very punctual and never late, moreover, he usually showed up ahead of time, and on that particular day he had to oversleep. Maybe it was because Phuwin was away from home, went on some trip with friends, and announced that he would be back in a week at the earliest.
He didn't live too far from school, so he had the faint hope that if he ran, he might be only a little late for his morning class. He forgot one thing: that the lack of breakfast, high air temperature and fast running are not the best combination for his slightly weakened body after a recent illness. A moment earlier, he could almost see the distinctive walls of his school building, when suddenly everything was enveloped in darkness.
When he opened his eyes, he was lying on a bench in the shade of a large tree with his head on someone's lap, and the owner of incredibly beautiful brown eyes was bent over him, staring at him with obvious concern. Was it the boy who helped him?
"Oh, how good you're alive, I was afraid something very bad had happened. Here, drink some water, it's terribly hot today, I'm really glad that you're alive" — The unknown boy burst out a stream of words, at the same time handing Gemini a bottle of water. The dazed teenager, still feeling faint, accepted the drink offered to him without a word of objection. — "What actually happened?"
"I-I..." — He tried to say something, but the words stuck in his throat as the stranger touched his hand first to his forehead and then to his neck, checking for a fever.
"What are you doing?" He wanted to ask the stranger. He looked around, but there was practically no one around them, except for some birds pacing back and forth on the grass, probably in search of food. Gemini found this emptiness strange, but he didn't have a chance to think about it deeply. He didn't know that one of his hidden talents was making himself invisible to people if he really wanted to, and for some reason he didn't want anyone to see them right now, and he was especially afraid of meeting his teacher, which he fought an unequal war from the very beginning.
"I don't think it's that bad," — the stranger muttered to himself, and after that he asked louder. — "Should I take you to the hospital?"
"N-no, thank you," — Gemini gasped, almost choking on water, which he drank probably only to hide traces of slight embarrassment caused by the presence of this stranger who had just helped him. — "I... I just woke up too late and wanted to be on time for class. I was running and I think I passed out".
When their eyes met, he felt as if he was beginning to sink, and for a moment a question hung between them that perhaps neither of them understood. Those eyes... Gemini was sure he had never seen anything so magical and beautiful. And those slightly pink cheeks, as if earlier this strange boy had been running around and stopped when he saw Gemi, probably lying in a not very beautiful position. Just thinking about what the stranger must have seen made him feel ashamed.
He'd never felt like this before. His heart was pounding like a great bell in his chest, the blood was pounding in his ears, it seemed to him that it was completely unreal, that he had not yet come to his senses, that it was a hallucination. After all, the boy next to him looked like some kind of angel, or if not, at least like a model or celebrity. His complexion was clear and healthy, his hair was black, glossy and soft-looking, his smile was wide, charming and sincere. Gemini caught himself shamelessly and thoughtlessly staring at the stranger's mouth only when the stranger asked him a question to which he didn't respond. The strange boy put his hand on his shoulder and shook him.
"Huh? What?" — Norawit asked, pulled out of his thoughts. His hero had just interrupted him with an exceptionally beautiful vision in which Gemini traced the contours of this boy's face with his finger.
"I know I'm handsome, but you're not going to stare at me all day, are you?"
"W-what?! N-no... I-i... I'm sorry!" — Gem exclaimed and began to stutter. He looked away, trying to look at everything but his interlocutor. The stranger still had his hand on his shoulder, and it looked as if Gem had only to move closer and the other boy would easily wrap his arm around his waist. Gem was then much smaller and shorter than today, although he was still among the tallest in his class. The places where their bodies touched each other seemed to burn Gemini alive, and he didn't understand why. He was just a teenager, and a very innocent and polite one at that. It wasn't until many weeks later, when he finally had the courage to tell Rose about everything honestly with all the more or less embarrassing details, that she explained everything to him. To say that he was shocked when he discovered much of his own reactions is an understatement! For the next few days he couldn't focus on anything else and thought only about this. And it was then that he insisted that he must find that boy.
"Don't look like that, I feel weird, " — the stranger laughed.
"I-i... I'm sorry..." —The stranger was looking at him with interest, Gem didn't know what to think. He felt confused and lost. He ran a hand through his hair absently.
In a panic, Gem moved away as far as the not-so-large park bench would allow.
Gemini looked at the watch on his wrist and was horrified to discover that class had already started. He had never been late before, was an exemplary student, and even had some devoted friends, though he spent most of his time with Phuwin. It was always Phuwin who got up first, took a shower, and then woke him up, so Gemini wasn't surprised that on the first day of his absence he had to do something weird. He sighed heavily.
"There's no point in rushing now, is there?" — The stranger asked. Gemini looked at him, noting in memory that the boy had a very pleasant voice.
"Maybe he's a musician, in fact, if I had such a voice, I would definitely become one" - Gemini thought, examining the boy's face. The stranger could be a little older than him, a year or two. He didn't wear a school uniform, so either he wasn't a student anymore, or he had decided to take a day off, and the most obvious was the blond streak on his perfectly styled fringe, and a mole on his nose and two more on his cheek.
"You're looking at me again" — The stranger smiled. It was beautiful, heart-warming smile. Gem thought it was the most amazing thing he has ever seen in his whole life.
Embarrassed, Gem looked away, feeling caught. At that moment, the boy's phone rang. The young man excused himself briefly, picked up, and though Gem had no desire to listen to the private conversation, he distinctly heard the stranger say to someone, "Okay, I'm on my way, wait for me there." He looked suddenly even more worried and concerned. He hung up and turned to Gemini.
"Hey, listen, I have to go now, my brother is having problems again. Will you keep going?"
"Yes, yes. Sure and thanks."
"No problem".
"But I think... Perhaps you saved my life?".
"Eh, I guess it's not that bad. I'll leave you here, okay? Although I think you should go home, you don't look well".
Gemini didn't know if he should be glad that this stranger was worried about him or be sad because he found him not very attractive. Apparently his inner dilemma showed on his face, because the other boy grabbed and pinched his cheek lightly, responding.
"Hey, don't make that face." — The stranger laughed. — "I didn't mean to offend you, you're really handsome, I'm just worried about your health. Okay, now I really have to go. Bye!".
And he left in a hurry before Gemini could even ask him his name.
"Wait! What's your name?!" — Gemini called after him, but the boy didn't hear him anymore. He put small, pink headphones in his ears, probably playing his favorite song, and walked away at a brisk pace. As he disappeared, Gem felt it for the first time, a strange kind of emptiness he had never experienced before.
"Come back, lovely boy..." — He whispered softly, not understanding himself why he was doing it and why he felt as if he had missed something important and wonderful.
Gemini sat on the same bench for a long time, completely unaware of what was happening around him. In the end, he skipped the earliest class, but texted Rose to pick him up at the back of the school before the next class, where he wanted to ask her about what had happened while he was away. He knew only one thing: that he would like to meet this boy, who seemed quite interesting to him. He started calling him "My Hero" in his mind, and when he told Rose about it, she said with her typical confidence as she munched on her chips:
"Oh, so you have a crush on a strange boy. Cool. I want to write a story about it, can I?"
Gemini shook his head and took the half-empty pack of Lay's from her.
"That's enough for you today. I have a feeling that you were overheated by the sun and not me" - He teased her.
" Ouch?! How can you separate me from my love of life?" — she asked, perfectly mimicking a dramatic tone.
" Your love of life?"
"Yes, I'm talking about the Lay's, if you don't give them back to me right now, I'll tell Phuwin that his little brother has grown up and is falling in love."
"Stop." — Gem handed her the package, feeling his cheeks and ears begin to burn. He stood up a bit too abruptly and felt dizzy again, forcing him to fall back into his seat.
"Gem? Everything's all right?" — This time his friend dropped her amused tone.
“Yeah, I just need to remember that I'm not in shape yet. I'll manage, don't worry".
Ever since that day, Gem has been looking for something. The boy in the red short-sleeved shirt and denim shorts with cute moles seemed unreal at times, as if he had only imagined him, and everything he had experienced that morning had only happened in his head. The only thing he knew about him was that he had a brother, but he had no information on whether he was an older brother or a younger one. He assumed that if he had some problems and the stranger rushed to his aid, it must have been a younger brother, someone like him to Phuwin. He also often asked Phuwin for help.
But years have passed and he still didn't meet his boy again. He didn't count how many times he was sitting on the floor in darkness of his own room, listening to love songs and imagining that they will meet finally. He created a thousands of worlds, where they weren't stragers to each other. Sometimes he imagined that they're sitting in the cinema, watching movie, eating popcorn and holding hands. Rose helped him to realize that he was falling in love and he accepted it without any doubts. But sometimes he cried. He cried because he was losing hope for meeting again his hero. He cried because he felt weird emptiness in his life. He cried because he missed that boy with magical eyes so much. He cried because he knew he doesn't want anyone else, it must be that boy or nobody.
Phuwin and Dunk felt sorry for him and tried to distract him with new hobbies or activities. They often asked him to join them.
At the beginning he really believed that the fate will make them meet again, but after time was passing, this faith started to fade. But even tho it seemed not bringing any positive results, he still didn't wanted to give up.
"At least I'll know that I've tried" — Gem said with very sad, heartbreaking voice and took the glass with red whine, that Pond has brought them. — "Cheers to the fate that maybe one day will help us meet again. I hope it won't be too late".
Gem raised his glass up and the others followed his example. They were full, a little drunk and sound asleep. Dunk had long since fallen asleep with his head on Joong's shoulder, who had visited them in the meantime. Telling this story once again cost Gemini a lot, but with these people he felt comfortable and safe, he could be himself and boldly tell about everything that was bothering him. He was very grateful to them.
