Chapter Two

....I'm hearing voices...am I going mental...??

"Perhaps I overdid it a bit." The British voice mumbled.

"Yeah, you did. Next time, try not to be so intense with your abilities. She is just human after all, compared to us."

Next, I heard a sigh. "I forget how weak mortals are...they are so fragile, and soft...and easily breakable." After that, I heard a dark laugh. "I suppose that could be why they make excellent sources of sustenance, the lot of them."

The room was dark, and I could hear faint beeping. To the right of the bed, soft sunlight emerged in the small window above me, and I tried to turn my head to look around, but it hurt to move. People were talking outside, and I tried to listen without making any noise.

"Should we tell her?"

"No." The British accent answered. "It's too soon, and I'm sure you will not want her blood on your hands sooner than expected." I whimpered in pain, my skull throbbing.

"She's awake." He stated. Hearing footsteps, I was surprised to see Bryan leaning against the doorway, smiling. He came over and sat down beside me, touching the bandages on my head gingerly. "How do you feel? You got quite the bump on your head."

I smiled weakly. "I'm alright now, thanks to you. But...where am I?" Bryan stood up and opened the small window, fully letting the light in. "You're in my clinic." I blinked as my eyes adjusted to the light and took in my surroundings.

I was on a soft bed with a warm, fuzzy, dark blue blanket. To my left there was a tray with all sorts of medical instruments and a few medicines that I couldn't read the label of because they were in another language. There was a diaper changing table with a small belt buckle for babies next to the tray, and a trash can was on the floor. Wooden cabinets lined the walls behind me and as I looked over my shoulder, I winced, seeing an IV drip.

Bryan rubbed my shoulder, smiling. "Not a fan of needles?" I shook my head. "Needles terrify me." I looked away as he took my hand and gently extracted the IV. "Is that better?" I nodded. "Um...what exactly happened?"

Bryan sighed, rubbing his face, tiredly. "You almost fell on the staircase and would have broken your head open if I hadn't caught you." I blinked, confused. "Wait...you were watching me?" He held his hands up. "This home is directly in front of your apartment and...I must say, you...um..." He put his head down, and I saw the tiniest blush creep upon his cheeks. "You piqued my interest when you said that you were alone. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

I smiled, giving him a soft hug. "Thank you for taking care of me." Bryan hugged me back. "Of course." I swung my legs off the bed. "I should be getting home, though." He nodded, standing up and helping me on my feet. "Are you sure you can walk home?" I nodded, rubbing my arms. "I'll be fine." He walked me to the door, handing me a small piece of paper with weird drawings on it. "Call me for anything at all."

I nodded, rubbing my arms again, feeling something strange.

"Of course. Thank you."

"Take care."

I felt eyes on me as I walked out of the abode and looked back at Bryan's small home. He smiled, waving goodbye at me. I half-smiled and turned left, unaware that there were four eyes on me instead of just two.

Bryan grumbled. "I still think we should have told her the truth, Draven. She has power inside her. She could help us take down our enemies." He stepped away from the window, closing the blinds and curtains, and glared at his vampire half. "While you, on the other hand, prefer to keep it a secret and not include her at all."

Draven smirked. "Are you certain it's not just because you are falling for her? You shouldn't let your emotions cloud your reasoning, you know."

Bryan rubbed his face, trying to conceal his tinted cheeks, and sighed. He knew that Draven was not inaccurate in which he stated the fact that Sofia would eventually learn about magic and would have to grow and become a Mage.

Yet, the risks were too great in informing her of her destiny too soon. If she learned of her destiny before she was ready, then the Night of High Power would arrive much earlier than she would expect and he knew that she would not be prepared at all for that night.

Bryan paced in front of the window, trying to piece together exactly when he would reveal everything to her.

I made my way easily to my apartment not long after some stupid idiot that was texting and driving almost ran me over. Geez, people should obey the laws for God's sake! God, I had a splitting headache...maybe a good nap can fix this. I touched my head gingerly, trying to feel for the bump that I had gotten...but there was nothing there! How do I not have a serious bump on my head...?? I fell on a staircase, for crying out loud!

I rolled my eyes. Mentally screaming at myself wasn't helping either. But if I don't have a bump on my head...why do I have a killer headache?? I opened the door to my apartment and quickly locked it, going to my room. Maybe a warm shower will help me out. Carefully, I removed the bandages from my skull, threw them in the trash, and stripped, letting the warm water wash over me, and calm me down.

I grabbed my favorite 3 in 1 shampoo, body wash, and conditioner strawberries and cream, and was very attentive to scrubbing my hair, and softly using the loofah on my body. I squeezed the conditioner out and stepped out of the shower, drying myself and putting on undergarments, and wringing my hair, then changed into my junk food onesie. Colorful donuts all over.

I have a sweet tooth problem. Teehee.

Sometimes I wish I could still go on pretend adventures like I used to do when I was a kid... but I'm not a kid anymore. I miss those days... I used to pretend I had magical powers and go on all sorts of adventures, having fun pretending. It's all in the past now...yet part of me still wonders if that magical world could have been real.

I climbed into bed. I was tired. Today had been a long day, what with all that happened too. I closed my eyes, grateful to be alive and thankful to Bryan for being there, however odd it was. I slowly fell into a deep slumber, hoping for a sunny, bright, hopeful day tomorrow.
