Chapter Six
That night, my dreams were weird and vivid yet again. The same instance occurred. Magic, fighting, that girl... who was she? "Hey! What's going on?!" I yelled out at her, hitting the bubble with my hands as I tried to get her attention. The older female had her hands out in front of her, magic shooting out of her hands with a streak of colors. She was obviously experienced.
Suddenly, wings appeared from her back as she noticed me, and flew close to my bubble. "Why am I in this bubble?! What's going on?! What are you?!" She sighed. "I will explain everything when we meet in person. For now, you must return to your own world. It isn't safe here." I was punching the bubble, trying to break it. The woman's eyes widened, as I closed my eyes, and pressed as hard on the bubble as I could, then something amazing happened.
My hands were enveloped with a warm orange glow, and I popped the bubble, floating in front of her, and I opened my eyes, gazing at her. "What...is this place...??" She glared at me, flying closer. "How did you DO that?!" I stared, confused. "What do you mean? Bubbles are always easy to pop." She became even more agitated. "Why are you even here in the middle of this mess?!"
Now it was my turn to glare at her. "What do you mean why am I here?! That's what I want to know!! The last thing I know, I was asleep in bed... then all of a sudden, through a dream, for some reason, I keep appearing here...wherever 'here' is!" She crossed her arms over her chest, and took a deep breath. "It's too early to start telling you this kind of thing. You weren't even supposed to know about magic! Not like this!"
I instantly looked around me. "Wait...this isn't real...?? So... am I in a lucid dream??" She looked into my eyes, and I instantly felt heavy. "Yes you are dreaming. You must return to bed, now, before things get worse. Please...just go." The last thing I saw before darkness took me, was the pink crystal around her neck, shining bright, enveloping me with light, and I was back in my fluffy bed, seeing myself still asleep.... How is that possible?
I looked at my hand, and it was glowing orange. I was in my bedroom...but, for some reason, I was staring at myself sleeping...and I was next to my vanity! Am I... a ghost?? Just then, the woman appeared glowing white. I blinked at her and tried to get her attention by waving my arms but she couldn't see me. I saw her place a hand on my sleeping form, on my forehead, and murmur something in a dialect that I couldn't understand. Although it didn't really look like anything had happened because I didn't see her hands glow, and I didn't see my body glow, so I guessed that she didn't do anything.
I was still curious about who she was. When I had that dream again, I decided that I would confront her, and get the truth. I didn't even have time to register what happened, because the orange glow around my spirit glowed brighter, and I was pulled back into my sleeping body.
About two hours later, I woke up, stretching my hands over my head, then stretching my legs and my feet. I got out of bed and blindingly, went to the kitchen for some water. Peeking out from my apartment blinds, I saw the sun barely starting to rise. What time is it? I thought to myself. I took my phone out from under my pillow, to check the time, and it showed me that it was five in the morning.
I almost laughed in disbelief. It's five a.m., yet for some reason, I don't have to use the bathroom, then why am I awake? That was the only realistic reason I woke up at five a.m. Other than that, I would sleep straight for eight or nine hours. A piercing pain shot through my right hand, making me drop the glass, and I shook my hand roughly, clutching it with my left. "Ouch..." I exclaimed out loud. "What was that?"
When I bent down to pick up the broken glass, I saw something sparkle in my right hand, out of the corner of my eye. I opened my hand, but there was nothing there. I shook my head with a sigh. I'm going crazy... I need more sleep... quickly cleaning up the broken glass, I rinsed the wet towel, and left it on the counter to dry, and went back to bed.
I laid awake in bed, my thoughts jumbled in my brain.
Who was that woman?
Why didn't she want me to be there?
Why do I keep having these lucid dreams?
Just then, I felt pain in my hand, and looked at my palm...then something even weirder than my dream happened. My hand started glowing orange, and a bright light caused me to squeeze my eyes shut, before the transportation began.
I found myself floating in a cavern, and there were ten people surrounding what looked like a wooden tablet with strange carvings and drawings on them. The hooded people were talking amongst themselves, and I floated closer so I could make out what they were saying.
So, you have seen her?
Yes. She is the chosen one, I am sure of it.
How can a mere human possible live up to our standards?! This is unheard of!
It has already been written in the prophecy. The one who will save all of mankind and our kind. That is her.
You are certain of this decision?
I am, Father. She can travel the astral planes, yet she thinks they are just mere dreams.
I cannot believe this! This must surely be a mistake!
Do you think the Gods would really make such an error in the prophecy? That is the reason they chose her.
She is the one. The one who will save us all!
Yes; she is. I have no doubts.
One of the figures crossed their arms over their chest and shook their head.
I cannot accept this.
You don't have to. She will become one of us in due time.
I felt pulsing emanating from my hand, and looked at my palm again, before vanishing from the cavern and appearing back in my bedroom. Sweat beads appeared on my forehead, and I wiped them away, and got up to turn on the air conditioning.
That was slightly terrifying... but... could they have been talking about me? I wondered. The chosen one... the words rang in my head. I sat up in bed, my arms crossed, and my knees pulled up to my chest under the sheets.
I closed my eyes, for a moment of reflection; and the words that the fairy spoke to me were being replayed.
It's too early to start telling you about this kind of thing!
You weren't supposed to know about magic, not like this!
Wait... "not like this" ...?? Does that mean I was supposed to learn about magic in a different way??
I glared at the fan on the ceiling, getting out of bed, and making my bed, trying to calm myself down. Once I was finished, I decided to take a warm shower to fully cleanse my anxiety and frustration.
I must be having these dreams for a reason... I wonder if it means that I'm destined for greatness... or just to fight evil...
I stepped out of the shower, feeling fresh and clean and went into my closet to change into a pink Minnie Mouse T-Shirt and sky blue pants with little bows at the bottom. I decided it was still a little early to make a phone call, so I went downstairs and turned on the television, then went in the kitchen to heat up a Toaster Strudel for breakfast.
I munched on the delicious pastry, letting out a small moan of delight, while I watched a recorded re-run of Jeopardy, when my phone rang. I put the television on mute, looking at the caller ID, I raised an eyebrow, but I answered, a laugh in my voice. "I didn't think you would be up so early." Bryan's laugh floated through the speaker. "To be honest, I couldn't really sleep last night...and I wanted to talk to you about something. Is it alright if I come over?"
I grinned. "Sure, I'll be waiting."
