Chapter Seven

My guest arrived no later than ten minutes. I welcomed him inside and took out a Toaster Strudel and a glass of milk for him, warming the pastry in my toaster oven. I walked over to the couch, and placed the delicacy on the table, and he joined me. "Anything interesting in the news this morning?" I shook my head. "I haven't seen the news yet. I was watching re-runs of the Jeopardy show."

He grinned. "That show is fun, and insightful." I laughed. "That's exactly what I was thinking! That's a show you really can learn a lot of things from." He ate the pastry, and I turned on the television, as he finished his breakfast, putting the dishes in the sink.
"Don't worry about washing them. I'll get to it in a bit." He shook his head. "I don't mind." I smiled slightly; grateful for his help.

After he was done, he came back to sit beside me, and turned to me. "Would you mind turning it off, so we can talk about something?" I nodded, curious to hear what he had to say. I folded my leg beneath me, facing him. "Of course. What is it?" He looked down, then sighed. "I just wanted to apologize for how rudely I treated you the last time I came over. Turning you away like that, and not answering your questions, I shouldn't have done it."

I crossed my arms over my chest. "You did answer my question, but the answer you gave me left me searching for more." He raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean searching for more?" I sighed. "I'll show you." Leading him upstairs to my room, and turned on the computer, opening the last web browser I was on. Vampires. The title read. He sat down on my bed, after complimenting me on my room, and stared at the computer. After a few minutes, he laughed. "Vampires? Isn't that a little far-fetched?"

After getting a good look at my face, he stopped laughing and his face turned serious. "Oh... You're serious." I crossed my arms over my chest. "It makes sense. The news reports about the pointy teeth marks and how the victims were completely drained of blood?"

He stifled a laugh. "I can tell your really into fantasy stuff." He clicked off the web browser and logged out of my computer. "Look, these stories are probably just coincidences. Besides, if there were real vampires perusing the city, they would wipe peoples memories, and the witnesses who manage to see them." I glared at him and he shrugged. "I read a lot." I sighed, rubbing my forehead. "Yeah, you're probably right... anyway, what do you want to do now?" He hummed in thought. "Not sure... What do you like to do for fun?" I smiled. "Arcades, checking out new restaurants, going to movies, visiting a new library or bookstore or just shopping around for groceries. I'm a simple girl."

A smirk appeared on his face. Hmm.. I thought. I wonder what he's thinking... "Well it is still early to go out... how about we make some popcorn and just watch tv, or see if we can find a good movie?" I  smiled. "That sounds good to me. First let me check if I have popcorn though... if not, we can walk to the gas station. It's only ten minutes from here." He shrugged. "Fine with me."

We went downstairs, opening the cupboards and the fridge in search for some junk food. "Heh. To be honest, the only junk food that I can find is your toaster pastries in the freezer, and there's only one left!" Bryan said, taking the delectable treat out of the box. I laugh, shaking my head. "Alright, looks like it's time to go shopping. You can have that pastry by the way." He grinned. "Thanks!"

Locking the door, we made our way to the gas station, chatting about school and life in general. I picked up some junk food, and some essentials I needed for the house, like, paper plates, napkins, a bunch of bananas, and some more Toaster Strudel pastries. Bryan came over to me with some kettle corn popcorn, with extra butter, some fresh bread, wine, a plastic box of green grapes, and two boxes of donuts and mini brownies. I raised an eyebrow at him. "We have more stuff for a picnic then just watching a movie!"

He grinned. "I wanted to help you out too." I set my stuff down, and unpacked my grocery basket, and Bryan did the same. I took out my wallet from my pocket, and just as I was about to pay, Bryan grabbed my wallet and took out money from his wallet, paying for everything. "Hey!" I exclaimed. He grinned. "What? It would be my honor to pay." I smiled at him. "You didn't have to do that." He smiled back. "You're the one letting me stay over, I figured I should at least do something in return."

I gave him a hug. "Thanks." He rubbed my head. "No problem." Retrieving our bags, with a thank you to the gas station clerk, we headed for home. "So, what movie do you want to watch?" I asked him. He hummed in thought. "The Princess Diaries?" He joked. I playfully punched him in the arm. "Yeah, right!" I rolled my eyes. "You are definitely not the type." He laughed. "Of course I'm joking. Let's see if anything good is on." He earned another playful eye roll from me. Once inside, we emptied the groceries in their respective places, and I opened the fridge with a facepalm. "Argh..." My guest side-eyed me, taking out the groceries. "Forgot something?"

"Yup." I giggled. "I forgot to buy milk." He surprised me by handing me a gallon. My eyes widened. "How did you...when did you..." He laughed. "You didn't see the milk carton in the basket?" I blushed, embarrassed. "I guess all the junk food kind of distracted me...thank you so much. I definitely need to pay you back now." He shook his head, putting the donuts and the wine in the refrigerator. "No need. Honestly, you giving me your pastry was payment enough." He smiled, putting the box of Toaster Strudels in the freezer. "Seriously, I don't mind."

I blushed. "Thank you so much. This really means a lot, and you didn't even have to." He grinned. "You're welcome. Now, let's pop some popcorn and get this movie started."
