Chapter Five

I tossed and turned in my bed, unable to sleep. I checked the time on my phone, it read 12:30 a.m. I groaned, putting my phone back on my nightstand and putting it to charge on airplane mode, as it was currently at 45 percent battery.

I sighed.

The vampire image that I saw online was still in my head, and thanks to my anxiety, I couldn't sleep.

Thinking over the conversation I had with Bryan, I remembered one particular detail that he said to me. "I may or may not have something to do with the animal attacks." Then when I grabbed his arm, he refused to tell me anything about it and brushed it off.

I sat up in bed, bit my lip, and took out my laptop from behind my second pillow, opening Google again. I continued to chew on my bottom lip, thinking about what to search for, then huffed impatiently and closed it, sliding it back under my pillow.

"How can searching, for one thing, be so difficult...??" I grumbled to myself, and laid on my pillow again, desperate for sleep to come to me. I had been up for an hour already, and getting pissed wasn't going to help my anxiety at all.

No sooner had I reached for my phone to play binaural beats on YouTube to help my anxiety relax than the force of the wind, combined with the thunder, knocked something into my room, and I covered my head with the comforter as the window behind me shattered, glass falling onto the quilt.

I heard hissing and snarling, and I peeked out from behind my comforter, to see...what the hell?! There was a vampire and a demon with large black and red wings fighting in my bedroom!

"Tell her the truth!"

"No! She's not ready to know!"

They lunged at each other, quarreling, one trying to gain the upper hand on the other. I was too scared to even scream, watching the scene unfold in front of me. The vampire and the demon grabbed each other's throats, their eyes both pulsating red, and angry. They looked like they were ready to kill each other!

I trembled out of fear, then I remembered my iPhone had a flashlight, and I grabbed it and turned it on, shining the flashlight directly at the monsters, and they covered their eyes, the vampire hissing at me and speaking with a British accent. "What in the bloody hell are you doing?! Turn that off!" I glared at him, my fear forgotten. "No! What do YOU two demons think you're doing, fighting in MY bedroom?!"

The vampire raised an eyebrow, his fangs visible. I swallowed a lump in my throat, trembling internally." This is a bedroom?" He asked me, looking around. "You have quite poor taste, my dear..." I clenched my fist, turning off the flashlight, and I got out of bed, turning on the light in my bedroom instead. "In case you two blithering idiots have no concept of time..." I pointed at the clock on the indigo-colored wall. "It's 2:30 in the morning, and I have homework to work on, so if you want to argue...take it outside!! NOW!"

I was a little taken aback by how loud my voice sounded. The demon and the vampire both glared at me. "You'll regret this." They said in unison and fled my room. I sighed, cleaning the glass off my comforter, and pillows, after the rain settled down and decided that tomorrow, if I did get some sleep, I would call a repairman to come to replace the splintered pane.

I played word searches on my phone again until I got tired from looking at the screen, and put it on my dresser, closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep, hoping for peaceful dreams...but unfortunately, as quoted from Forrest Gump... life is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get. And there was more truth than anything to that quote.

My dreams did consist of happiness...of seeing my family again, and being able to talk to them, but...something was off...their faces...their voices...they had changed. They weren't the family that I once knew. I staggered back, falling over a boot in the middle of the floor. That's when it hit me. My family...doesn't exist! This is all a lie! Tears pooled in my eyes, as the beast appeared in its true form...and bit my neck.

I woke up with a scream...and damp sheets. Holy crap... I looked at my pillow and saw a giant sweat stain on it. A tingle ran up my spine and I touched my neck, feeling nothing but sweat. Night sweats...haven't had those for a while... Using the yogini's practice, the pranayama, I took deep breaths to calm my anxiety and re-focus my center.

I picked up my phone to check the time. 8:15 am. I laughed. I can't believe those two demons believed my lie!

Since school was officially out for the week,  I decided to do some morning laundry to get my day started. I took a shower and changed into my favorite lazy day clothes, which consisted of a plain white crop t-shirt, and a pair of floral blue pants, with my hair tied up in a ponytail, just because I didn't know what to wear. ....okay; those were the only clean clothes I had left in my closet. Hence the reason to do laundry. Now I'm glad I took a shower first.

I immediately started getting my laundry out and separating the darks and lights, and the blue jeans, putting the dark laundry in first since the light laundry took a bit longer due to Clorox bleaching, and I sort of always was messing up the light colors more than the dark ones. The jeans were the easiest laundry to do, but I knew needed more practice anyway.

Once my laundry was finished, I proceeded to take out the clothes from the dryer and fold them in the living room while watching some television.

I turned on Jeopardy again and sat down on the couch, watching intently while I folded the laundry. Since I didn't have an ironing board, my best bet was to fold the laundry as it was coming out of the dryer.

I decided that once I graduated from high school, and got a job, getting an ironing board was a top priority, along with more groceries, and a newer backpack once I got into college.

.....wait...what college do I want to apply to though?? I mean, true...it is only the start of spring break, yet, I was in my Sophomore year of high school, and the truth be told... Senior year was fast approaching.

I smiled, taking out the jeans in the dryer, and folding them the way I looked them up on the Internet.

After I put all my clothes away, I took out my backpack from the closet, turned Jeopardy off, grabbed a book, and decided to go on a picnic, packing some fruit from the fridge and making turkey ham sandwiches, putting fruit in a picnic basket, and getting a soft blanket out of my closet.

I looked outside the balcony and smiled, happy that the weather was still beautiful outside, and left my apartment. Since the park was only a fifteen-minute walk from my apartment, I didn't need to take my Audi with me. Finding a nice shady spot under a tree with big leaves, I took out my book and munched on an apple, some Flamin' Hot Cheetos, and a banana nut muffin. I could eat Hot Cheetos any time of day.

Reading always helped me unwind after a busy day, and even if the day wasn't so busy, it still felt good to read a book every once in a while. I leaned against the tree trunk, after bookmarking the page I was on, and stared at the sky, watching the clouds go by, engrossing my thoughts on what my parents were like, and what kind of life I lived as a young child.

Did I have any siblings?

What were my parents like?

What was my childhood like?

Why can't I remember anything?
