When I was the mute person​ I was, I would wish for someone to have stood up for me.

Someone to have asked me at least a simple 'are you okay?'

I never got it though.

Now that I have finally came out from my mute state, I still had to be shy and quiet for other things.

Good thing I had my friends to help me out. Friends that I never knew that I could ever have.

I was in the restroom during lunch, fixing my messy hair while Rose was next to me, ranting non stop, and with Kaitlynn who was occupied doing her 'business'.

Once Kaitlynn was finished, Rose stopped talking making the restroom go silent.

Though not for long.

"You hear something?" Kaitlynn whispered and hushed us.

I froze and listened.

Soft whimpering.

My eyes slowly wandered down under the stalls to see a pair of black combat boots.

Someone was here...

"What do we do?" Kaitlynn mouthed silently.

Rose and I looked at each other, not knowing what to do.

Usually people in the restroom crying wants to be left alone but it felt wrong. I gave a worried glance at the stall and started to wash my hands. Maybe walk off? That is what I would do. Sadly not a good choice but I didn't know what else to do.

Kaitlynn grabbed courage and knocked on the occupied stall.

"Hey there are you okay?" Kaitlynn asked to the mysterious person.

"Y-yes I'm okay," the person quietly replied back.

The bell rang, bringing me back to my senses.

The person came out from the stall and I recognized her as Frances. Frances was a friend last year during algebra and world history. She would always look for me during group projects and would always be sweet with me even though she was one of Joe's friend.

I sent her a private message through wattpad one day asking about Joe when he mysteriously disappeared.

She never answered though.

I gave her a small glance and just walked off.

I hope she is really okay...

Little by little, things were slowly turning out for the best for me. Years of being mute, weak, and a nervous wreck finally was being pushed all the way to my past.

The time Joe bumped into me in the hallway for the first time, my first boyfriend, a betrayal of a friend, a loner loser, slut after my brother, my first breakup, my extreme change and look, my growing hate, Emilio, the mistakes and fall being made over and over...

All gone.

Four years wasted on a person who wasn't even worth anything. Going back is impossible but going forward...

That has been the best thing I have ever done.

My path is wide and bright. My eyes are open and clear. My head is free.

Joe disappeared forever.

Emilio left for good.

Ana is hated by everyone.

And I am slowly rising out from the shadows.

I never had a birthday party in eighteen years of my life until now. For my eighteenth birthday everything and everyone was going back into their places. My life finally how I wanted it to be.

My two sisters, my three brothers, all of my cousins and nephews and niece, even my best friend Rose was there in my special day. New memories being made and a bright future ahead. Candles lit in front of me as I briefly closed my eyes for a wish.

I just want to be happy.

No matter what and how, happiness is all I want.

I blew the candles and smiled.
