Chapter 59

"Bigger Than Us" will be up tonight. Just realllyyyyy had to add something to the chapter  👀.

Sorry for the delay guys, I've been traveling with my parents, and my mom had this weird "no technology" rule so we can observe our surrounding. Don't know what she was talking about.

¥¥¥¥

"Mom, what did you mean when you told me to not look without seeing?" I asked and her hands slowed down a little on my hair.

"The demon used to pay attention to small details. You have to do the same to see." She said and my frown deepened at her words.

She always speaks in riddles and it only increases my curiosity even more when I ask myself so many questions.

"See what?" I asked. "The demon?"

"He's never far."

"He's never far. Or is it his grave that is not far, mom?" I asked crossing my legs.

She stayed silent before pulling most of it in a bun and slowly started to comb through the bottom section of my wet hair.

"He's never far." She repeated and my frustration increased.

What do I conclude from that? He's never far?

The last time she told me that was the day Jason took me to my father's grave. But that grave is not close. It's a little far.

Does that mean that she's having visions on my dad? Or does she really see him?

The fact that Steve appears in my head every time I asked myself those questions irritates me beyond words, because I don't want to make assumptions that are not true. I'm not gonna let my mind conclude things like that.

His name being Steve doesn't mean anything.

"Steve what?" And Jason's question that I didn't want to acknowledge a few days ago appeared back in my head.

And now I really wanted to know.

What is Steve's last name?

"Ouch." I winced in pain and pulled away a little briefly looking at my mom. "Mom! Not that hard."

"Shush. I didn't do it hard at all." She said taking the bun down to pull another section.

I huffed as she pulled me back against her. "Yes, you did!"

"You need to stop moving, or it's gonna hurt." She said.

I fought back the groan that threatened to leave my mouth as I let her continue. At least she's doing something I've always had to force myself to do.

At least she didn't hit me with the comb like she used to before she got sick.

*****

I hummed softly closing my laptop as I looked at my mother sleeping on her bed. She already watched a movie and fell asleep in the middle of the second one.

After almost ripping my scalp off.

I placed my laptop on the small table and stood up to moved closer to her. I reached for the remote to turn the TV off before sitting down to pull the cover over her. I kissed her cheek and slowly moved back and looked down at her with a soft smile.

I stood and tiptoed out of her room and slowly closed the door. I hummed as I walked down the hallway to go to the living-room.

I should have jumped in fright at the sight of Jason pacing in my living-room, but I didn't. I don't know how I got used to it.

What kind of person would even get used to this?

But here he was looking deep in thought. He didn't even look up when I walked in.

"Jason?" I called and he stopped to look at me. "Are you okay?" I asked as I suddenly became worried by his expression.

"Yes."

"You don't look well." I said moving closer to him as he sat on the couch armrest. "Tell me what's wrong?"

"I just wanted to see you." He said and I moved closer placing my hands on his shoulders.

"What is it?" I insisted and he gave me a small smile shaking his head.

"Stubborn woman. I was just thinking about Kevin." He said and I frowned realized that I've completely forgot about him.

How could I forget about him?

"What about him?"

"Nothing. And that's the problem." He said placing his hands on my hips.

"You think he left the country or something."

He let out a small chuckle. "The man doesn't have a passport."

How could I forget about him after he threatened to kill me?

I still nodded at what he said before he placed his lips on mine kissing me softly. I sighed leaning my body against him and he tightened his arms around me. I pulled back a little resting my forehead against his.

"Don't think about him." He mumbled against my lips and I nodded again pulling back to look at his face.

I should ask him if he found something about Steve. At least to give an idea so I would stop thinking so hard, or at least to stop having those crazy thoughts.

"Jason, did you find anything about Steve?" I asked and he looked at me raising an eyebrow.

"I thought you wanted me to leave it alone."

"But I know you didn't listen. So, did you find something?" I asked again, knowing that he can find out whatever he wants about whoever he wants.

If he did those research he did about Steve, I'm sure he found something.

"Why are you suddenly interested?" He asked moving his hands to place them on the back of my thighs to pull me closer.

"I don't know." I said truthfully with a sigh as my shoulders dropped.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Nothing, I'm overthinking again." I said, pushing my thoughts away.

I'm just overthinking.

*** Flashback (This happened in the first few chapters period)***

** Third Person **

"Hey baby."

"Demon." Rose smiled as Steve walked in and closed the door behind him. "You're always sneaking in places."

"I have to." He smiled moving closer.

She silently watched as he walked closer not bothering to turn the lights on. The only source of lights in the room being the lamp by the nightstand and the moonlight coming through the window.

She looked up at him as he moved reaching his hands out. She placed her hands in his as he slowly pulled her up. He then sat down before pulling her on his lap.

"How are you?" He asked softly before wrapping his arms around her.

"They still say that I'm crazy." She mumbled placing her head on his shoulder.

"We're all crazy, baby. The levels are just different." He smiled as he moved his hand smoothly on her waist.

"Really?"

"Yes. Don't forget it, and if they call you crazy again, tell them to go fuck themselves." He said causing her to let out a small lough.

"Have you seen our little flower yet?" She suddenly asked and his face fell.

"Not yet." He mumbled.

She pulled her face from his shoulder to stare at him questioningly.

"I'm a coward. I don't think I will be able to take it."

"You are not a coward. You just let darkness get into your heart too easily, but you're not a coward." She whispered placing a hand on the left side of his chest.

He couldn't help his smile as she spoke. She was here, but she was still the wisest person he's ever known. She always knew what to say, and her advices were to be followed.

"I don't know how to face her. I wouldn't even know where to start."

"Flower looks like our little Victoria. They look alike. They are both stubborn too. Flower comes to see every day." She explained and he nodded.

Victoria and Flower were the same person, but her confusion just confirms his doubts about her forgetting Victoria growing up.

So he just nodded agreeing with her.

"I know. But what I feel is fear. What would I say to her?"

"Fear is an illusion." She said quietly. "Go to the coffee shop in the morning if you want to see her. She always goes there in the morning."

"But she's alone, isn't she?" He asked.

"She's not alone. She has her crazy friend."

"What crazy friend?" Steve asked raising an eyebrow at her.

"His name is Jason." She answered and his face hardened a little as the words left her mouth, and an unpleasant feeling filled his chest.

"I meant if she's alone in her house." He said closing his eyes tightly for a moment before reopening them to look at her.

"Yes, she's alone." She said quietly looking at him as his expression changed and he relaxed a bit before nodding.

"They are just friend?"

She smiled lightly looking down at her husband, who was probably plotting a way to get rid of the man. "They are not just friends. But they don't know it yet."

"Why does that mean?"

"They are in love. Flower knows, but he doesn't." She whispered and Steve's curiosity increased. "He pays for my treatment, and he comes to visit me without her knowing." She said with a small smile grabbing his hand in hers.

He furrowed his eyebrows as soon as the words left her mouth. "He comes here?"

"Yes, almost every day, early in the morning. He talks with me. He told me that he was crazy too. And he is nice, but he is really crazy, though." She whispered and Steve let out a laugh at the serious look she had.

"I'm sure he is."

"But you have to meet flower. She's just like our daughter." She whispered again placing a hand on his jaw.

Steve just nodded not saying anything, before looking at her with a soft smile. He placed a hand on her cheek stroking it softly with his thumb as she leant against his touch.

"You're beautiful." He whispered as his lips brushed against her jaw.

"You always say that." She said as her gaze moved outside.

Her body sagged against him and her gaze stayed not moving and he sighed knowing she was going back again.

"Because you are." He said hoping she would understand him. "And I love you." He said as her eyes stayed glued on the window.

The short moment they shared together always ended when her illness kicks in. they would have normal conversations until she goes back to her own world.

"I love him too." She whispered still staring.

"Him?"

"The demon." She answered causing him to smile a little tightening his arms around her.

She laid her head back on his shoulder again as he closed his eyes slowly waiting for his time to leave, like he did every night.
