Chapter 56
** Victoria's POV**
"Mr. Knight!" I gasped as I opened my door before trying my best to hide my confusion and shock. "Please come in." I quickly said stepping aside for him to come in.
I close the door and showed him the living-room. He took a seat and I just did the same wondering the reason of his visit.
"You don't have to look so surprised." He started, noticing my expression. "Jason told me your mother was moving in today. I came to see how everything was going." He explained.
"Uhm good. Everything is ready. I'm just gonna go pick her up tomorrow morning." I said.
"Do you have everything you need? All the equipments?"
"Yeah. I... I have everything." I said nervously and he nodded.
"That's good." He smiled lightly. "And Kevin has been bothering you, hasn't he?" He asked and I nodded. "And he also keeps lying to you. But nothing that comes out of his mouth is the truth."
"He is desperate at this point. His brother is not with him anymore, and neither is his nephew. His niece is just an insignificant piece of their little game." He explained and I looked down shamefully.
I sighed feeling stupid for believing he really had two nephews. "He told me he had two nephews."
"He lied. He has a nephew and a niece. Cindy Kyle is her name."
That bitch.
I knew it.
I nodded almost slapping myself for always forgetting how sick this man really is.
"Kevin lies. And he lies for nothing. So, don't believe anything he tells you. He doesn't know anything about your father or anybody else. And he certainly doesn't know anything about your parents' marriage or your childhood."
That asshole just had fun messing with my mind he knew I was vulnerable and wanted answers. And I was naive enough to just listen to him and believe without questioning.
I just nodded and he then stood up.
"I'm glad your mother is recovering." He said and I stood up too as he made his way to the door. "And whatever you need, don't hesitate." He continued. "Never. You are family, okay?"
I nodded slowly with a smile. "Thank you."
He nodded and opened the front before walking out. "Goodbye, Vicky."
"Bye." I smiled before closing the door and locking it.
They caught Donovan and Dean. Kevin and Cindy are still out there. The two people I have personal problems with.
Just great.
**Flashback 22 years**
"What's wrong, baby?" Stella asked when she noticed her younger son sitting on the couch with deep frown on his face.
"I don't like her." He frowned not moving from his position.
"But you pulled her hair, baby." His mother smiled sitting beside him. "That wasn't really nice either."
"It's big. I just wanted to touch it." He frowned glaring at Victoria.
"Come here." She smiled pulling him closer to her. "You shouldn't touch every girl's hair."
"She's mean." He said again and Victoria turned to look at him.
She stood up and to the table to grab a cookie and stood in front of them before handing it to him.
Stella smiled glancing down at him. "See? She's offering you peace."
He looked at her for a moment with a frown not saying anything before slowly grabbing it. "Thank you." He said taking a bite.
Victoria then looked at the TV and Jason's moving fingers on the controller, before sitting down and grabbing the other one.
"Hey! Don't touch that." Jason snapped grabbing the controller but she held onto one of the grips tightly.
"Let her play with you, Jason." Stella sighed. "It's off, right?"
"No. She's going to break it. Sharing with Seb is already enough." He groaned and she pulled at it harder glaring at him.
"Be nice, Jason." Stella said sternly and Jason just snatched the controller from Victoria and placed it behind him.
"Jason is always mean, Victoria." Elena said stepping in and sat down beside her, before glaring at her brother while putting her hands beside his face. "I curse you!"
"To what?" Jason asked looking at her weirdly.
"To..." She paused and turned to looked at her mother. "Mommy, what is that thing? When you do something bad, and you have bad things?"
Stella laughed lightly while stroking Sebastian's hair. "Karma?"
"Yes! I curse you to karma." She exclaimed moving her hands to her brother's face and he slapped them away.
"And I am your doom." He said and his mother looked at him questioningly. "Dad taught me that word yesterday." He smiled looking back at her.
"Well he's been teaching you a lot of dark words lately."
"We are dark."
"This boy." She muttered shaking her head. "You spend too much time with your father."
Her husband's voice made her turn around to see him coming back in the living-room with Steve.
"Ready to go, flower?" He asked and Victoria stood up grabbing her doll. "I have some things to do. So, I have to take her home first."
Elena frowned standing up. "Mommy. She can stay longer."
"She can stay here, and you can come pick her up on your way back." Stella suggested standing walking closer to them and Elena nodded quickly.
"Are you sure it won't bother you?" Steve asked.
"Not at all."
He looked down at his daughter. "You're gonna stay here for a couple more hours?" He asked and she furrowed her eyebrows at him. "I have to see how she takes it, or she's gonna cry as soon as I leave." He said before turning away, pretending to walk toward the door.
"Daddy?" He stopped when he heard his daughter's voice and turned to see her coming toward him before holding onto his pants tightly.
"It talks." Jason said from his position on the couch making Stella give him a stern look. "I'm just kidding. I meant 'she'."
Steve went to her level with a smile. "I'll be back in a couple of hours, flower. You can play with your new friend while I'm gone."
She shook her head furiously before wrapping her arms around his neck. He sighed and stood up with his daughter in his arms.
"Stay, Victoria." Elena frowned stepping closer and Victoria just buried her face into her father's shoulder.
"She must be tired, sweetheart." Stella said looking down at her frowning daughter.
"But we were playing." She whined tugging at her mother's dress. "She can stay."
"Maybe she doesn't want her daddy to leave without her, baby." Stella smiled softly stroking her hair.
"Can she come back tomorrow?" Elena asked looking between her parents.
Hunter and Steve glanced at each other not saying anything before Hunter turned to his daughter.
"I don't think so, princess. Her dad has some work to do and she has to stay with her mom, like you. You're always glued to your mother, right?"
Elena crossed her arms over her chest with an annoyed expression on her face.
"I'll just do the work tomorrow, then. I'll keep you updated." Steve then said to Hunter before nodding at Stella. "Goodbye Stella."
"Bye Steve." She smiled before lightly touching Victoria's hand. "Goodbye Victoria."
She pulled her face from her father's shoulder to look at Stella with a smile. "Bye." She then looked down at Elena. "Bye Lena."
"Bye." Elena muttered burying her face into her mother's skirt.
Steve then just turned and walked toward the door. He walked out and slowly closed the front door behind him
"Did you have fun, flower?" He asked while walking to his car.
"Yeah."
"They were nice, weren't they?"
She nodded smiling as he opened the backseat door and put her in the car seat. He slowly strapped her.
"We should go home, to interrupt you mama's 'me time', like she calls it." He said pinching her cheek lightly making her giggle.
****
"Mama!" Victoria called as soon as they walked through the door.
"I was about to call you. Have you guys been having fun without me?" She smiled walking closer to them as Victoria reached for her.
"You are the fun, baby." Steve smiled kissing her soundly.
"Shush. Don't scare our daughter, demon." She smiled taking Victoria in her arms hugging her tightly. "I was just cooking dinner, it's almost ready." She said walking back to the kitchen.
"Whatchu making?"
"Something good." She smiled. "And poisonous." She teased him while placing her daughter on the counter
Victoria immediately reached for the cookies placed on top.
"No sweetheart. Not before dinner." Rose said taking them away.
Victoria frowned looking at her father moving closer to him, as Rose continue moving around the kitchen.
"Don't look at me, little girl. You heard the boss. And you already had some a few hours ago." Steve shrugged sitting on one of the stools before pulling her on his lap.
Rose looked back at them for a moment. "Where did you guys go?"
"I had a meeting with Hunter, so she had a snack and played with his daughter." He smiled.
Rose gasped looking at his daughter with wide eyes. "This little girl played with someone?"
Steve nodded with a small smile. "Shocking, right? But the only reason she let go of my leg was because they offered her cookies."
"Oh." She chuckled. "Now that makes sense." She paused looking at her husband. "So what kind of job are you doing for that Hunter guy?"
"Now? Just some investigation." He said as Victoria started kicking her legs to be put down.
He put her down and she grabbed his hand while pointing at the living-room. "You wanna watch your cartoon?" He asked and she nodded pulling at his hand even more.
He sighed standing up before going to the living-room with her. He put her show on and she sat on the couch. He put the remote down before going back to the kitchen.
"You said the last time would be the last." Rose said as soon as he walked back in the kitchen.
"It was. Baby, I'm just doing some investigation now." He said moving closer to her. "I'm done with the killing, I swear."
She shook her head slightly to push away her fear and moved before taking a deep breath.
"Stop." He said lowly grabbing her arms so she could face him. "Look at me." He said and she did. "I'm done with that."
Rose looked down when she felt the tightness in her throat. "I love you so much. I can't lose you." She whispered as her eyes started watering. "I just can't, Steve. I don't know what I would d..." She stopped and bit on her lower lip when a tear left her eye.
Steve placed a hand on her cheek looking into her eyes. "I am done with it." He said and took a deep breath.
"I'm not gonna lie. Maybe my past can come back to bite on my ass. But right now, I am done with this business, and I love you, okay?" He said honestly.
She looked into his eyes for moment hunting for any signs telling her that he wasn't honest. She let out a breath out of relief when she found none.
She nodded. "I want you to tell me you understand, baby."
She sniffed wiping another tear that fell. "I understand."
"Good. Or I'm gonna have to find other ways to persuade you." He smirked moving his hand lower to palm her ass.
She giggled before slapping his hands away. "Get your hands off me, you demon."
