a dance?

Sage had spent the last few days avoiding Draco, except for their tutoring days. She thought he changed, but once he punched Seamus he was the same old Draco she knew all these years.

Sage took a quick glance over at Draco as she entered the great hall for breakfast, before looking away quickly. She walked over to the Gryffindor table and sat across from Harry. "Have you figured out anything about the second task?" She asked as she scooped food onto her plate.

Harry sighed and shook his head "Not yet," he responded, his voice trembling slightly.

Hermione looked over at Harry "The task is in a week and a half, hopefully, he figures it out soon," Hermione admitted.

Sage nodded and looked at Ron who was stuffing his face with food. "Malfoy's looking at you," Harry pointed out.

Sage turned around to see Draco's grey eyes staring at her. Once their eyes meant he looked away quickly. The trio had learned about her secret friendship, or what was a friendship, from Seamus. "Maybe he fancies you?" Hermione suggested.

Sage shook her head quickly, resting her elbows on the table. "No, Mione no way. Me? A Gryffindor, half-blood?" Sage defended. Using the same excuse that always popped in her head, the Gryffindor, half-blood. But her voice made her sound like she was unsure of how Draco felt.

"You don't sound so sure," Ron pointed out, his mouth full of food.

"Gross Ronald," Hermione hissed.

"What? I'm eating?" Ron questioned.

Sage sighed "Even if he did like me, it's over now. He hurt Seamus, he never changed," Sage told them.

Harry shrugged "He's a Slytherin, it's expected," Harry said.

Sage shook her head slowly thinking off all the Slytherin's that have sacrificed for her. Regulus Black, Sirius's brother. He was a death eater before he went against Voldemort and died. "That's not why," Sage defended.

Hermione sighed "Sage is right Harry," Hermione said.

Harry shrugged "Uh- sorry," Harry said quickly.

Sage sighed and looked down at Seamus and Dean. Seamus glared at the girl who he used to call his best friend. His nose was bruised from Draco's punch. "I'm gonna go," Sage said suddenly and walked off. The trio watched her leave before turning back and talking.

But Draco followed her out, she was walking down the hall, and Draco's footsteps could be heard behind her. "Lupin," Draco called.

Sage turned around to see the familiar blonde Sage sighed and turned away to walk away, but a hand grabbed a hold of her wrist. "Draco," Sage started.

"Sage, I'm sorry okay," Draco interrupted, "I shouldn't have punched Seamus, I let my anger take me over. I'm so sorry,"

Sage stared at the blonde. His apology was sincere she could tell "It's fine," Sage mumbled.

"Let me make it up to you please," Draco offered.

Sage had never seen Draco like this before, she just stared at him before nodding "Okay, but no more punching my friends, they're just worried about me okay?" Sage said.

Draco nodded "Okay," he agreed. Draco gave a small smile to the Lupin girl "Again I'm sorry,"

Sage smiled at him "It's okay, I forgive you," Sage said.

Then Draco did something she never expected him to do, he hugged her. Sage felt safe, for the first time in a while. Draco held her in a tight embrace before pulling away. Sage's cheeks went red and warm as she smiled. Draco put his hand on the back of his neck, smiling awkwardly.

"Sorry-" Draco said quickly.

Sage shook her head "No- no it's okay! It's okay Draco I promise," Sage said.

A few hours later Sage was sitting at the Gryffindor table eating lunch. "Oh, mum sent me something!" Ron exclaimed, gathering the people's attention around him. He ripped open the box "Mum send me a dress..."

Sage chuckled with a few others "Well it does match your eyes," Harry teased, "Is their a bonnet? Ah-ha!"

"Put those down Harry," Ron told him and stood up with the 'dress," Sage watched him walk over to Ginny. "Ginny this was made for you,"

Ginny's eyes widened "I'm not wearing that! It's ghastly!" Ginny exclaimed.

Hermione and Sage burst out with laughter. "What's so funny?" Ron asked approaching the two girls again.

"They're not for Ginny!" Hermione exclaimed, laughing. "There for you!"

Sage covered her mouth to hide her laughter "Me?" Ron questioned.

"They're dress robes," Hermione told him. The whole Gryffindor table burst into laughter, including Sage.

"Dress robes for what?" Ron asked.

The next class, Professor McGonagall had taken them into an empty room where the Gryffindors sat on these bleachers like things.

"The Yule Ball has been a tradition for the tri-wizard tournament since its inception," McGonagall explained. "On Christmas Eve night, we and our guests, gather in the great hall for well-mannered frivolity. As representatives of the host school, I expect each and everyone one of you to put your best foot forward, and I mean this literally because the Yule ball is first and foremost... a dance."

The loud chatter of excitement could be heard from the Gryffindor girls "Sounds fun," Hermione whispered to Sage. But the boys groaned with annoyance.

"Silence!" McGonagall demanded, "The house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizarding world, for nearly 10 centuries. I will not have you of the course of a single evening besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling bumbling band of baboons."

"Try and say that five times fast," George told Fred. Fred attempted to.

"The dance is to let the body breathe," McGonagall explained, giving a breathing motion. "Inside every goes a secret sworn slumbers longing to burst off and take flight,"

"Somethings about to burst," Sage heard Ron say, but couldn't catch the rest of it. That made Seamus chuckle.

"Inside every boy a lordly lion prepared to peace," McGonagall said, catching Ron's attention. "Mr. Weasley,"

"Yes?" Ron asked sheepishly.

"Will you join me please?" McGonagall asked, Ron, who stood up carefully. Harry patted his back. The two walked into the middle of the room "Place your right hand on my waist."

"Where?" Ron asked quietly.

"My waist," McGonagall repeated and put Ron's hand on her waist. Someone whistled out loud and Sage covered her smiling face. "Mr. Filch if you please,"

Filch turned on some music "One. Two. Three." McGonagall counted as she and Ron danced.

George and Fred teased their younger brother "Oi?" Harry questioned, getting Sage's attention. "You're never gonna let him forget this are you?"

"Never," both the twins said in unison.

"Everyone comes together!" McGonagall told them.

Most of the girls stood up, including Sage. The only boy who got up was Neville, who Sage practiced dancing with, chuckling with him.

He spun her which made her smile. While she danced with Neville she wondered who she would go with. Harry? Maybe Neville himself. Draco?

-

A week passed and Sage sat in the courtyard, reading. "Sage?" She heard Draco's voice say.

She hadn't gotten a date yet, but to her knowledge, Hermione had a date, but wouldn't say who. Neville was going with Ginny and Seamus and Dean would be attending together 'as friends'.

Sage looked up at Draco "Hey," she sat, marking a page in her book.

"I've been meaning to ask you something," Draco mumbled softly, taking a seat on the fountain next to her.

"Go on," Sage said.

Draco sighed "Will you go to the ball with me?" Draco asked quietly.

Sage's smile widened "Of course I will go with you," Sage told him.

Draco smiled widely "Great!" Draco exclaimed, "That's brilliant, I'll Cya soon okay!"

Sage nodded and watches Draco happily walk over to Blaise Zabini who patted him on the back, she happened to see a jealous Pansy Parkinson.

But 3 days later she was walking down the corridors of Hogwarts when a familiar Hufflepuff boy stopped her. Cedric Diggory. "Ai! Sage?" Cedric called.

Sage smiled and turned to look at him "Hello Cedric. How are you?" She asked.

"I'm good, great actually," he responded. "What about you?"

"I'm doing fine," Sage said, "What's up? Did you need something?"

Cedric nodded "Actually yes," he said softly, "This is sorta late I know. The ball is only a week away. But if you aren't going with anyone, would you like to go with me?"

Sage face dropped as she frowned. Cedric was a nice kid, and even if she wasn't going with Draco, she probably would have rejected him. She isn't her type. He's nice and funny but 2 years older and popular. She would be the most hated girl in school if she went with him. Most of the girls wanted him. "Ced... I'm sorry," she said softly, "I'm already going with someone..."

"Oh... that's fine. Thank you," Cedric said kindly "Who may I ask?"

"Uhm Draco Malfoy," she said.

Cedric's look said it all he was surprised she had agreed to go with Draco. "That's great! I'll see you soon. Thanks," he said before rushing off.

Of course Sage felt bad, but it was fine, she was going with Draco. Sage Lupin was going to the Ball with Draco Malfoy.
