elizabeth callier
Sage yawned as she woke up from sleeping. Summer was already coming to an end. Sage would be back in school soon. Harry had promised, for now, not to tell anyone about what happened with Dumbledore, besides Hermione and Ron.
Which sucked because those are her friends as well. Draco knew, Sage knew, and then Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Snape was now headmaster of Hogwarts, which worried her even more. Dean was probably right, the war would be within the next couple of months.
Sage would be returning to Hogwarts, much to her father's dismay. Usually on early summer mornings, Sage would get up with her dad and they would eat breakfast.
Remus and Tonks had gotten married a few weeks before, it was a secret marriage due to the anti-werewolf legislation into effect.
Sage got up, pajamas still on, hair still thrown into a messy bun, and rushed downstairs, where her dad was waiting for her and sipping coffee and reading the Daily Prophet.
"Morning dad," Sage chimed happily, preparing herself a bowl of cereal, "Did you eat?"
She turned to face her dad he was ghostly pale like all the blood had run from his face. "Sage..." He said quietly.
"Dad, what happened?" She asked quickly.
"They found Elizabeth," he said and looked up at her.
"Where? Is she okay?" Sage asked quickly, supporting her weight on the counter.
"Sage... they found her dead," Remus said quietly, Sage stared at him, "She appeared afloat the black lake early this morning, dead,"
Sage shook her head "You're joking right?" She asked.
Remus shook his head slowly, "No... no I'm not," he said quietly, "Sage... I'm... I'm so sorry."
Sage looked down and shook her head "I can't believe it..." she told him, "Do they know what happened to her?"
Remus shook his head, "Not yet, but they plan on figuring it out soon," He replied, pulling his daughter into a tight hug.
Sage wrapped her arms around her father. She felt absolutely horrible about it all, she couldn't get her mind off how Elizabeth's family must feel.
Remus pulled away and looked down at her "Hey... I do have good news though," Remus said, "I know it's probably not the right time..."
Sage looked at him "What is it?" She asked.
Remus smiled lightly, "Tonks is pregnant, we found out shortly after we got married," Remus told her.
Sage smiled happily "Really?" She asked, receiving a nod from her father, she hugged him again.
That was it, Elizabeth Callier was dead... and Sage Lupin was gonna be a big sister. Her emotions were all over the place. What was to come next.
The next step, what was the next step? Harry. Harry Potter was the next step for Sage Lupin.
A week later
A funeral of Elizabeth Callier. Sage slipped on a black dress, it was simple, plain. Her hair was curled and pinned back with a black clip.
She wasn't one for funerals, maybe that's because everyone she had basically loved died.
Her mother, Cedric, Sirius, and now Elizabeth. Dumbledore meant a great deal to Sage, but after she died she realized something.
He was manipulating her, not trying to help her. Of course, admitting that out loud would catch a few people's attention. Gathering anger from her peers. So Sage kept to herself about it all.
"Sage!" Called Remus from downstairs, "It's time to go!"
Sage sighed "Coming!" She shouted and walked to her bedroom door and rushed downstairs. "Is Tonks coming?"
Remus shook his head "No, she has some stuff with the order," Remus explained.
Sage tilted her head slightly, "What about you, don't you have to go?" Sage asked quietly.
Remus shook his head, "I told them I was taking you to Miss Callier's funeral, they told me it was okay," Remus told her.
Sage nodded, "Okay dad, thank you by the way," she said.
Remus nodded "Of course darling," Remus said and smiled, "Anyways before we go we need to talk about something."
"We do?" Sage asked, receiving a nod from her father, "What is it?"
"It's about Hogwarts..." Remus explained, Sage raised an eyebrow, leaning against the counter. "I don't think you should go back for your seventh year, of course, it's up to you as I respect your thoughts."
Sage loved that Remus didn't treat her like a kid, she was seventeen, after all, almost an adult. "What?" Sage asked, surprisingly remaining calm. "Why not?"
"Sage, Dumbledore is dead, there is no protection on Hogwarts from Voldemort," Remus explained, "A student, your friend, was found dead on school grounds. The question is why would you want to go?"
"Dad... Dumbledore..." she choked out.
Remus stared at her for a moment, "He's dead Sage... he can't protect Hogwarts anymore," Remus told her.
Remus didn't know, his own daughter killed Hogwarts 'protection'. Or at least helped kill him.
"IKilledDumbledore," Sage managed to get out, although it wasn't very clear what she said.
"What?"
"I. Killed. Dumbledore," she repeated before disappearing into a puddle of tears. Remus quickly pulled his daughter into a hug.
"What do you mean Sage?" Remus asked.
"The night- Dumbledore told me to, to help kill him so the dark side thinks I'm helping them... because of Draco, I did it for Draco dad," Sage ranted, sobbing heavily into her father's chest.
Sage hated to admit it, but she was scared. She was scared and she was a murderer.
The funeral
Sage and Remus apparated into the funeral. There were a lot more people than she expected. The last funeral she went to was Dumbledore's ironically. That funeral was pretty packed as well.
Remus had trailed off to some of his old friends and colleagues so Sage began to walk around.
After a few minutes, she could see her best friends. Dean and Seamus, god it would be a relief to see them.
Seamus was crying, which didn't surprise Sage at all. He was closer to Elizabeth, the two grew extremely close over their shared, closeted sexuality.
Seamus was allowed to be out loud about it, at first. His family wouldn't approve, or his muggle father wouldn't.
Elizabeth on the other hand, both her parents would disown her. Would yell at her for ruining their pure bloodline, or their picture-perfect family.
Sage suggested Elizabeth and Seamus to become friends. Seamus grew quite close to the girl once suggested, of course not as close as Dean or Sage, but he cared for her.
Sage was also upset, heavily upset about the death of her friend. But she hurt for Seamus.
Dean was the first to realize Sage standing there, he must have told Seamus because Seamus looked at her and stood.
Sage quickly rushed over to her friends and hugged them. Seamus was the first to wrap his arms around her, Dean joined in quickly after. They were both in suits, black suits.
"I'm so sorry," Sage whispered to Seamus, she could hear his muffled cries. Sage felt a few tears stream down her face.
This time last year... Sage was at the lowest point in her life, and she didn't want Seamus to feel what she felt. Worthless.
Seamus pulled back and sighed, nodding his head slowly. "I think someone's here to see you," Seamus said, nodding in the direction behind her. His eyes were still bloodshot from the much crying he had done.
Sage turned around and met Draco's gray eyes. It was a relief to see him. She started walking towards him and he did the same, they immediately hugged.
"Are you alright?" Draco asked quickly, kissing her forehead.
"I'm okay, upset, but okay," Sage told him, closing her eyes against his touch. "You aren't supposed to be here."
Draco shrugged "I had to make sure you were okay," he told her.
"What about you?" Sage asked, frowning lightly.
"I'll be fine, Sage," he reassured her, "Do you trust Harry not to tell anyone?"
Sage nodded "I do, he hates me, but I know he doesn't want anything bad to happen to me or my family, my dad will be heartbroken if I get shoved into Azkaban," Sage explained, "I told my dad today... that I did it."
Draco raised an eyebrow, "And it went good, right?" Draco asked, receiving a nod from Sage.
"He just comforted me, he understood why I did what I did," Sage explained.
Draco sighed "Okay, I'm glad," he said and kissed her forehead again, "I have to go, I'll see you soon, I promise."
Sage nodded and Draco apparated away and that's when someone coughed behind her.
Sage turned around. Harry. Sage sighed "Harry..." she said slowly.
"Come on, I think we need to talk," Harry told her and walked away from the large crowd of people. They walked into an open spot in the outdoor funeral area.
"Look-" Sage started.
Harry shook his head "No don't apologize, or tell me you can't explain yourself," Harry ordered, "Just tell me."
Sage shook her head "You know I can't," she told him.
Harry sighed with annoyance "Sage please, I need to know so I can forgive you!" Harry begged.
Sage looked down "All you need to know, is I did it for the better good," Sage whispered.
"The better good?" He asked, "Dumbledore is dead! Hogwarts protection!"
"Really? Harry, he fucked my life up," Sage defended, "And yet I regret killing him so much."
Harry sighed "You've been like a sister to me, for so long, and now I don't even know who you are," Harry said and sighed.
"Harry, I can't do this right now, Elizabeth is dead, let me grieve," Sage said.
"Wouldn't be surprised if you killed her too," Harry said, harshness in his voice and he looked at her. He looked at her like he wanted to kill her.
Sage slapped him "Fuck you," she said before walking away and sitting with Dean and Seamus as everyone gathered for the ceremony. Sage had agreed to speak for Elizabeth. She was scared, Harry had joined a seat next to her father.
The funeral director stepped forward, "Today we are here to honor the death of a young witch, Elizabeth Vivien Callier, a 17-year-old girl, whose life was taken too early," He said, although the funeral was outsider his words were echoed in Sage's had. She looked down, at the three linked hands, Seamus in the middle.
She looked down at their hands before laying her head on his shoulder. Seamus was hurting the worst, she just needed to remember that. The director talked for a bit, Sage was stiff against Seamus, and Dean was comforting Seamus silently.
"We have a volunteer speaker, who's known Elizabeth since they started school," the director explained, "Miss Sage Lupin,"
Sage looked up and sighed, Seamus squeezed her hand before letting it go.
Sage stood up and walked over to the front of everyone else. "Hey, friends and family of Elizabeth," Sage read of her paper and shook her head, putting it away. "I've been sharing a dorm with Elizabeth for 6 years. I think that's helped me get to know her quite well. Her smile always lit up the room, countless nights we talked about people we liked or how much we thrived for our future. Elizabeth wanted to be a healer, she would have been great at it as well. The next time I walk into the Gryffindor girl dormitories for my seventh year, something will be gone. That something will be Elizabeth, there will only be four of us, and it's gonna suck. But Elizabeth's name will live on no matter what, she won't be forgotten and she will get justice for what happened to her."
Sage nodded, tears now streaming down his face before she went and sat back down.
They were there for another 30 minutes before it was over. Sage and her friends were hugging for a solid five minutes after. Sage just wanted a normal year, her secret was buried deep inside her and it was about to explode out.
A/N:
I finally got a longer chapter out. I'm sorry Sage's speech was kinda bad, but I wanted to give Elizabeth more of a reason. A lot of her friendship with Sage and Seamus wasn't shown mainly because I only came up with it recently! Anyways I hope you enjoyed it! I am working on my hunger games fic and organizing it!
