Laurance's POV:
"You four are insane,", I mumbled.
"More like geniuses,", Cloud proudly stated.
Him and Cadenza had now dragged my parents into this now, allowing them to fangirl about the potential engagement too. It just made everything worse in my opinion.
"So, when you go to his dorm, surprising him, you get down on one knee and pop the question,", My mother exclaimed, clapping her hands. She had a large whiteboard and everything in the living room where she won't reveal how she got it, with steps of the proposal written on it.
My father sighed, looking at his wife, daughter, and my friend standing around it like a presentation. He was excited, sure, but he wasn't this involved. He was reasonable and suggested I come up with the plan but, it was shot down immediately. My mother glared at him and said; "Do you have any other suggestions Hayden?"
"No dear...just one aspect is missing from all of this,", He said.
"Which is?", Cadenza asked, placing her hands on her hips.
"The ring? Laurance goes back in a week and he hasn't got the most important part."
The three went wide eyed and I chuckled under my breath. Four weeks of planning and it all went down the drain in an instant. My father got up from the armchair next to the couch I was sitting on and said; "Good for you, I have a back up plan."
I immediately groan, sinking into the cushions more thinking I would have to sit through another presentation. He disappeared into his room and my mother came to sit next to me. She smiled, pulling me close to her in a hug. "Aren't you excited?", She squealed, squeezing me tightly.
Don't get me wrong. I was. I was just hoping to do this myself...that's it. No special fireworks or poems. I had to convince them to drop those previously...
"I am. I just-", I started that was interrupted by my father reentering the room.
"Here you go,", He said, handing me a tiny box. I looked up at him, shocked. We both knew what it was and I couldn't believe he had one just laying around. Is it bad the first instinct I had was that I felt guilty. With shaking hands, I opened the box and my sister and mother gasped at the ring inside.
It was simple. A gold band with a small single diamond inside. It just screamed Garroth to me...
"Where did you get this?", I asked.
"It was your grandmother's ring. She wasn't much of a show off, as you can tell."
I took the ring out of the box and looked at it more closely. That's when I realized that it had the words "My Love" engraved on the inside in cursive.
"I hope he'll like it,", My father smiled. I got up, not putting much weight on my leg and hugged him tightly.
"He will...thank you,", I say.
Once we parted, he simply said; "Well, we should head to that appointment of yours'. We wouldn't want to be late for that check up."
I nodded. I really didn't. Not now. This appointment would tell me if my healing process was on track or not. If it wasn't, I wouldn't know how long it would be till I could see Garroth again.
"That's right!", Cloud said, grabbing my crutches for me. "Hurry up now!"
I laughed and gave him a hug. I handed Cadenza the ring and told her to put it in a safe place. She smiled and promised she would.
"Let's get a move on Laurance,", My Father said, opening the door for me.
...
We both sat in a room at the doctor's office, waiting for my x-rays to come in. I was growing nervous, seeing the clock ticking. My father assured me for the millionth time that everything would be alright.
"What if it's not though?", I asked. "Dad...I can't go another six weeks without seeing him..."
He sighed and said; "That won't happen. But, if it does, we'll be there for you."
I thought about what actually would happen if I had to wait longer to see my boyfriend. I think I would go crazy if I had to. I missed holding him and saying how beautiful he was. I wanted to talk to him and be there for him when he needed me. I felt relieved though. Throughout this whole five week period, he has stayed safe. At least to my knowledge. I felt proud of him and how he accomplished to do so in such a high stressed situation. I couldn't wait to ask him about the past few weeks and what has happened. Just then, the doctor came in and she looked through her papers before looking to me. "From this, Mr. Zvhal, I'm glad to inform you that you can take that darn boot off. I'm sure you're ready to do so as well."
I paused for a moment, processing what she just said to me. My father was in shock too. "B-But, I still have a week to go after this."
"Maybe the fracture wasn't as serious as we thought. Or maybe if was just luck,", She smiled. "Now, let's get it off, shall we?"
"Yes please!", I say, trying to take it off myself. My hands were shaking too much though that I found it difficult to do so. She giggled and did it herself. Once I felt a breeze of cool air hit it, I got on my own two feet and said to her; "Thank you so much!"
She nodded and left after telling us to check out before we decided to head out. I looked to my father and said; "Can you drive me to Scaleswind University?"
He laughed and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Once we get that ring and your second shoe at home."
We checked out and headed out into the parking lot. I didn't care if the pavement was freezing against my sock that was my only protection. I needed to get to Garroth ASAP. Once I got into the car, I called Cadenza. Her scream came from the other side as well as Cloud congratulating me. I told them that they can get excited once I get there and hung up. My father smirked as he drove us back home. He said to me; "Your life is going to be so different now...you know that?"
I smiled and didn't say a word. I was just focused on getting back to get that ring. I secretly still hated that plan that my mother and sister came up with but, I didn't have any other ideas. I sprinted out of the car once we pulled onto our driveway and got into the house. The three of them already had a shoe and the ring ready in the box.
I looked to all of them before looking at my sister, saying; "Thank you...for making me realize how stupid I was being."
She grinned and hugged me. "Don't mess this up. Okay?"
"I won't,", I smirked, still hugging her. I then hugged Cloud and my mom before heading back out to my dad in the car. I didn't know why I had the sudden urge to actually do this all of a sudden but, I think it was truly a heat of the moment thing. A good heat of the moment decision though. I couldn't wait to surprise Garroth and see his face when I did so. I didn't care if Blaze would be in the dorm when I did it...I just needed to.
My father drove down the street over to the police station where we would ask for permission to leave with our car. We both couldn't stop thinking about what was about to happen. I think it was the most happy I've ever seen him. I felt my phone ring in my pocket and I saw it was Chad. I totally forgot to let him know and I assumed he was informed by the doctor a few minutes ago. I answered it and said; "Hey Chad-"
"Laurance, I have some bad news. It's about Garroth...and his roommate."
"W-What happened?"
In five minutes my whole plan changed. I hung up the phone once Chad was done informing me about the situation and received a text message about where I needed to go. I showed it to my Dad who already switched moods too. I asked him; "Can you drive me here?"
"Of course,", He nodded and pulled up to the station where he ran in to tell the officers to open the gates for us. I stayed in the car though...completely silenced about what happened.
