Chapter three

I walked to the kitchen. There was Mrs. L.

"Today we are baking pie, okay?" She said.

I nodded.

After that I worked in the garden. By the time I was done there was dirt smeared all over my face and My hair was full it. I got paid $10.00 which was great for me.

I went home and washed my hair in the creek. I needed a shower bad but I rarely got one. I put on a bathing suit that I found weeks ago and grabbed a bar soup. I jumped in the creek and took a bath.

When I came out I was soaking wet. "Man!" I yelled. I didn't have towels. "What I'm I supposed to do!?!?" I yelled at myself. I went up in the tree house and changed out of my swim suit in to my cargo pants and button up shirt, again even though they were covered in dirt. My hair was dripping wet. I took a weed and put it in pigtails to keep it off my back. It started to get kinda cold. All I had were two blankets each year I have to get more because somehow the ones from the year before alway manage to ripped, or got ruined, or blew away."

I wanted to find more blankets. I had to get some before winter rolled around. I looked around at my "house."

"It looks good." I said to myself. "But something's missing."

I ran out of my "house" and got to sticks and some weeds. I tied the to sticks together with the weeds, so they formed a cross. I hung it on my wall.

"There." I said to myself. "Now when I look at that cross, I will think of Jesus."

It was 7:00 when I finished dinner. I cleaned up and kept the fire burning awhile. I washed my hands, my face was covered in dirt again, I didn't care though. I took my hair out of my pigtails, it was wild and flew everywhere. Finally I lied down for bed. I took the book i was reading and read more and more till i eventually fell asleep reading it. That night all was silent no noise, no nothing.

I woke up in the morning to chrunching leaves. I looked around to see what was there. I screamed and fell back at what I saw.

"Joey." I said in almost a whisper.
