Down in his lab, Ford had been working on a way to enter the dimension known as the Mindscape.

Mabel and I stayed above. I looked at my sister who was sitting on the couch and holding a can of Pit Cola, starring at it with worry as her foot moved anxiously.

I placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it'll be ok... We'll find her..."

Mabel gave a small smile and nodded, believing me. But I myself had trouble believing my own words. As much as I wanted to find (y/n), Bill has her. She was the one who 'defeated' him, and he never died, just went away for a while. I didn't even know what to do or where to start.

(y/n) was always the brave one...

She always gave me the courage I needed...

She always did everything she could to keep me, us, safe...

She was the real hero...

Not me...

"You're my hero, Pine, with or without that journal of yours. Remember that next time you doubt yourself, ok?"

...

(y/n) needed me now more than ever. I didn't care what I had to do, how I had to do it, where I had to do.

She needs my help.

I needed to be the hero she always saw inside me.

"Dipper, Mabel, come down!" yelled Ford from his lab. We both ran downstairs to see him holding a strange looking thing with glowing golden flames.

We both walked over. "What is that...?"

"A key, one we can use to open the gateway to the Mindscape."

"Doesn't the fire hurt, Grunkle Ford...?!?" Mabel asked, a bit shocked.

Ford shook his head. "It's a harmless flame, Mabel."

Mabel nodded in understanding. "So how will we be able to use it...?" I asked.

Ford offered it to me, and I cautiously took it, examining it from all angles. It was a beautifully designed key, I had to admit. And Ford was right, the flames were harmless. You could still feel their soft warmth though.

"If my calculations are correct," he began as he walked to the other side of his lab. "We might be able to open a small tear to the Mindscape dimension."

"Is that dangerous...?" Mabel asked a bit nervously.

Ford turned to her. "I don't know, probably. But you've been in there before." He walked over to his counter and took a walkie talkie, offering it to me. "However, there is one problem."

"And what's that...?" I asked as I grabbed the device.

"The portal can only be open for a short amount of time, which means I'll have to stay behind to make sure it stays open. I'll be speaking with you through this, but... I'm sorry... you're on your own this time..."

Mabel and I exchanged a worried look. However, she soon replaced it with a determined smile. I knew she was up for this, I knew she wanted her best friend back as much as I did.

I gave Ford a determined look. "Alright, we'll go."

Ford nodded in understanding. "Good. And get ready, the Mindscape is a dangerous place."

It took us about half an hour to get the things we thought we'd need in the Mindscape. Though, having been there before, we doubted they'd be useful.

The first and last time we were there, it was in Stan's mind, and we learned we could do anything we thought of. Even get powers.

However, (y/n) was an exception to those rules, and she wasn't able to use even her own powers.

We went back to the basement where Ford was holding a strange looking gun, similar to the memory ray.

"Grunkle Ford...?"

"Ah, kids, you're back. Good. Now, take this." He offered Mabel and I a metal bracelet each, a red button in the middle. "Use them to keep me updated."

Mabel nodded. "We will."

"Good, now stand back." he said as he I'm steered the key into the gun and pointed it at us, making us quickly step out of the way.

He pulled the trigger, an electric wave shooting at the wall. It wasn't long until a portal formed. Mabel and I stared at it for a bit before looking at Ford.

"Go, there's no time to waste!"

We nodded at Ford. Mabel grabbed my shoulder as we both walked towards the portal. We were scared to say the least.

I closed my eyes and walked through,

scared of what was at the other side...
