Joshua- Chapter 40
" Hey."
" What's up?" I imagine after that fiasco, Cole would want to be as far as possible from me. He let me in, surprisingly.
" So... What's up?"
I looked at him. " We have to talk."
His face told it all " About what?"
" What happened. What the hell did Violet do that won't get her up?"
" I don't know. Violet is a new demon. We were just figuring things out, really."
" Well, whatever happened knocked her out. She won't wake up for a while."
He paused and looked up at me " Why does she hate me?"
" Cassandra doesn't hate you." I said shortly." She's worried. And disappointed. She's afraid for you. She hates that you don't want to talk anymore. She never hated you." Cole huffed and sighed.
" I didn't know whether I wanted to end my own life, cry for eternity or let pain come. Because... That was a lot of emotional pain she sent at me."
" Cassandra had been crying day and night for a few days now. She hasn't been well at all."
" I think we can both understand what Violet did was uncalled for. But what is wrong with Cassandra?"
" There is nothing wrong with Cassandra or how she feels. She's a woman. Who misses her dad's affection. And her mother's as well." Cole scoffed.
" And that's it? You're kidding?" I looked him dead in the eye. His question was answered.
" Cassandra isn't that complicated. She wanted you to feel how hurt she was. By you and by mom. How you could all just move on."
" What was I supposed to do?"
I sighed sitting down." I don't know, neither is Cassandra herself." I leaned back and sighed.
" What was wrong with you?"
" I don't want to stay. At all. I just want to live with Violet. That's it.
" Than you did one hell of a job trying to tell her that." I sighed. I pushed my hair back away from my face, which it stayed
" l didn't know any of that would even happen. I didn't think Violet would actually try and kill her."
" Yes, well, she did. We don't know when Violet will be back. Cassie should wake in 2-3 days. Damn. Can't you guys sit and talk like regular people?"
" We're demons, Joshua."
" No, we're fish. I know." I mumbled sarcastically. I sighed. He walked past me and opened his refrigerator door. I sighed in frustration.
" What's the problem? How did this even happen?"
" It could have been..." He closed the door " Because we were all talking but no one was listening. We were all already on edge. Nobody wanted to meet Violet, they really only wanted to see me. And I didn't expect Teagan to be there."
" Very true. Teagan was there upon Blaise and Adelyn's request. They love her, and are very aware of her infidelity. It seems like we all could learn from them. To never forget, but forgive."
" I wish it were that simple, Joshua."
" It can be that simple. You nor Cassandra want to let go of anything, though."
" And what of Teagan?" He asked, rolling his eyes.
" Teagan is indifferent. Teagan knows and acknowledges her deeds. She's learned to live with them. It's you who hasn't moved on yet." He looked away from me and through the glass .
" You're still blaming yourself for why she went to seek love from Satan. You rejected her. You haven't forgiven yourself, or apologized to Teagan."
" I-" he cried. He sighed heavily.
" Everyone's upset at each other. You could all come clean to each other. Than resolve all this unnecessary bullshit hanging in the air."
" That would work. I don't know if that will happen."
I looked at him " Admit it to yourself. And I want to hear it. Say it!"
For a while, he didn't say anything. " I still love her." He whispered. " The way I've always loved her."
" She's only on edge around you because she thinks you still hate her." I saw him break. His eyes could tell me how he felt before he even had to.
" I never hated her. I hated the situation. And I hated how no matter how I reacted, it was never in my favor. I still miss her.
" There's some things Violet can't ever begin to understand about me that Teagan would barely care about when brought up.
" Teagan... Was a perfect woman. I was the problem." He sighed, letting his emotions show on his sleeve and on his face.
" And?"
" I feel so lonely sometimes. It's like sleeping next to someone who can't look at you and know what hurts or what's wrong. Fuck, I can't do this." He cried. I sat next to him and pat his back.
" I think that was it. How do you feel?"
" Like shit. But it's much needed. I have to learn to... accept the fact that she won't ever love me again. And I fucked us up big."
" Okay. Do you want me to stay for a while?"
He wiped his tear-stained face " Yeah." I nodded.
" So... What's Cassandra feeling?"
" Almost the same way. She understands what happened. Her problem with you is that... She's always wanted a perfect family, that stuck together no matter the change.
" When she sensed you were gone for reasons other than the fact that you were trapped, she felt it was a personal attack. She blamed herself for you having something so much more important than family that you'd be away for months. She felt abandoned by you."
He exhaled and bit his lip.
" She felt like everyone was abandoning her. First it was Teagan. Than you. And than Jason died. As the two most important people she knows, it was taken as she wasn't good enough for your genuine love anymore.
" She was more than enough for me. I just wanted spa-"
" Yes well as mentioned before, you didn't do it in the best way.." He groaned in pain and I rest my head on my arms.
