Chapter 18
I saw a woman, lounging on a sofa. I looked closely at her face. My biological mother sat there, sipping hot cocoa. Her brown hair and piercing aquamarine eyes. Welcoming and loving. I wanted to be there with her, with Carter. She finally looked at me, at long last and sighed.
" I wanted to keep you away from this, but... You have to know now." She whispered. She sighed, proping her cheek up with her fist. She was so pale and fragile. I examined her. She was shaking. It was light, but it was there. I wanted to reach out and touch her, but I could not. I woke up, slowly. I knew. It was difficult to take in and still look at Michael in the morning. He was a demon. And I was a witch. This... sucked pretty bad. I knew if there were Demon and witches, there were definitely people who hunted them. Michael and I were vulnerable, but not if we knew how to defend ourselves. I sighed, bathing and getting dressed. I wore a black t-shirt and black pants. I wore a light grey sweater over it and my running shoes. I walked downstairs. Michael was making breakfast, as usual. But things felt different between us. Not different... because I still loved him a lot but different because he was hiding nothing from me anymore.
" Morning handsome." I chirped. He blushed and smiled.
" Good morning, Bella. How are you?"
" I feel great." I sighed, smiling up at him. He smiled back.
" Now, I don't want you to think anything between us has changed because I still love you dearly. But... when would you have told me you were a demon if I never found out?" I asked, pouting at him. His eyes locked on mine. He sat in the chair next to me and I sat in his lap. I knew he was blushing.
" How did you figure it out?" He whispered.
" I had a dream about it.' I lied perfectly. I threw my leg over his other thigh so I was facing him. I kissed his lips softly, letting him savor what this kiss meant to me.
" You always hide things from me. Well, it will not be like that this time." I said pouting.
" You're so fucking adorable it makes me swoon." He whispered in my ear. I smiled brightly.
" That's what I like to hear. Please don't be mad. I have just figured out myself I am a witch." I whispered.
" I am actually not surprised."
" Yeah, well, this means we have to protect ourselves."
" No. As long as we are no danger."
" When were you gonna tell me you were only doing this for a favor you owed back Joshua?" I whispered. He looked into my eyes.
" It's not a... favor, but a debt I owed him. Instead of getting vengeance upon me, he bound me to him and made me his slave. We are no longer bound anymore. You know..."
" I wanted to know if I can trust you." I whispered.
" Trusting a demon is like trusting a thief in your home. They may or may not take from you." As soon as he said that, my eyes dropped. I was fighting my instincts to keep him here now.
" Please don't look like that. Look, I'm sorry it's in my non-human nature to act like a complete asshole. If it wasn't in my nature... I might actually fall in love with you. But... it's hard, okay?"
" Okay." I echoed. I gingerly got off his lap and stood up. I turned away and bit my lip.
" Please don't leave." He whispered.
" Who do I have to stay for?" I said, lonely as ever. I left the room.
" Bella, please!" He almost shouted. I looked over my shoulder.
" Look! I know what you think I think about you. I don't think that at all. Come please." He wanted to refrain from begging, but I could see the want in his chocolate eyes. I turned to him. I thwarted him in the head and he flinched in anger.
" How about you stop using your stupid demon nature as an excuse to stop feeling?" I growled. His face softened.
" But-"
" Stop suppressing your feelings. When you do, come talk to me." I growled. I stormed away from him, leaving the house. He did not follow me, which I was absolutely greatful for. The chill of the morning air stung my face and cleared my lungs. My anger instantly vanished into the chill morning. I walked into the forest. I climbed the biggest tree and sat on one of the top branches. I was light, though I was average height. I leaned on the tree as my support. I couldn't stand Michael sometimes. I loved him, more than I thought. I felt so stupid. I wondered where my brother might be. I remembered he told me when we were little to find a long stick, bare of any branches and stake it into the ground. He said he would find me in a minimum of 10 minutes. I tried to remember the levitation spell, but my powers were very dim. I was only able to move a leaf, which was impressive compared to my previous attempts.
" Good morning, Cassandra." A voice from below me shouted. I saw my brother, who stood at the trunk, smiling and waving. I carefully climbed down to meet him. I hugged and greeted him.
" Are you alright?" He looked at me closely.
" No. I'm fine for now." I whispered.
" You got into an arguement." He whispered.
" H-how would you know?"
" We are both passive aggressive. You've displayed enough in 10 seconds." He pointed out. I pouted.
" Don't worry. I will pound him if he hurts you." He grumbled.
" I don't like to see you frown. Please smile." I said gently. He couldn't help but grin at my care.
" Carter, since I'm with you now, could you take me to see our mother?" I inquired. He nodded. I hopped on his back. We trekked through the forest. At the other end, we came to a halt. He chanted something in latin and a rift in the space in front of us ripped open. He walked through it and chanted again, closing the rift. We were in a nice house. It was quite cold. Carter put me down and got me a blanket. I wrapped it around my shoulders. He took me to a room in the back. He cautiously opened the door. In the corner on a table was a guinea pig. I saw it's eye look up at me.
" She is now hosting a guinea pig. I know. Mom is so cute." He whispered. I chuckled at his remark. I slowly opened the cage, gently pulling my mother out. I immediately made a connection to her.
" Cassandra." She whispered. She seemed fragile and tired.
" Mom..." I gasped.
