Chapter 1 | Daughter of Shad
Shad's P.O.V.
That day still haunts me. The day when I could have had it all. I had punished Gene, for the child had not my relic. I could tell from the moment he brought it to me. I had one of the female shadow knights care for it and called for the Demon Warlock. He told me he could give her dark powers, but something had gone wrong.
The child, quite small, had a special potion upon it. It was going as planned, until a white light glowed. The relic of Irene. They had it. The potion was partially repelled, but it was much to strong for even the relic to completely block out. It flew out of her body and a new relic appeared, being absorbed into her body. Because she was the daughter of Irene, she was part evil, and part good, giving her a type of magicks so powerful, it could defeat anyone.
And so I raised her. She was trained to fight by the best of the shadow knights, and taught magicks by the Demon Warlock. Once she is ready, she shall become our weapon. With her power, I could have my revenge on Irene, and destroy the world she loved. And so she was named "Umbra", my little shadow. (Latin for "shadow")
"You called for me, father?"
Umbra's P.O.V.
When I entered the throne room, my father was staring out the window at the rest of the nether, lost in thought.
"You called for me, father?"
He turned around to face me, smiling.
"There you are, my little shadow. Professor Valkrum wants you to come up to his study to practice. Go along now, do not keep him waiting,"
"Yes, father,"
I exit my room, my scarlet-black dress dragging along the nether brick floor. The stairs up to Professor Valkrum's study are quite steep, and I must lift it so I don't trip. I flip the lever and the heavy iron door to his study opens. I head inside to find him at his desk, writing in a book.
"Professor Valkrum, I am here,"
He looks up from what he is working on and sees me. He gets up from his chair, stepping over the occasional book or two.
His study is amazing. Most of the walls are covered in books, enchanted with fire resistance. An enchanting table is in a corner, surrounded by bookshelves, and lights up a portion of the room. Potion ingredients fill the shelves, empty bottles and potions on tables. A cauldron sits in the middle of the room, emitting magicks.
"You have finally arrived. Today we are going to do something different. Today, we will be making potions,"
He chuckles as a smile forms upon my face. I had wanted to learn how to create potions ever since I was a little girl, and I was finally going to do it.
"However, we will only be touching on certain potions. Ones that will help you on your quest,"
I let out a sigh. My father has been telling me about this quest since forever. Everything I do, my training, practicing magicks, is to prepare for my 'quest'. Yet, even to this day, he hasn't told me what it is. Only when I am ready will he tell me what it is. Hopefully I will be ready soon, for there could not possibly be much more for me to learn.

I flop onto my bed, exhausted. Wool is practically impossible to come by in the nether, so only my father and I have access to it. We had finished the lesson much quicker than expected, and so I was allowed to have the rest of the day to myself. A knock on the door interrupts my thoughts.
"Come in,"
I raise my hand and magic shoots from it, opening the iron door to my room. The Nether is known for fire and lava, so we don't use wooden doors. That would just be stupid. Using my magicks doesn't tire me out as much as others so I use it more often so I may practice, but also because I'm too lazy to get up.
"Hello there, my little shadow. I have some exciting news to tell you,"
I sit up to see my father, as well Professor Valkrum and the head of the shadow knights, Gene. My father seems extremely excited, so I can only hope for what he says next.
"You are engaged to Gene!"
"What?!"
I stand up so quickly that I become dizzy, and grab onto my bed so I don't fall over. However, my dizziness causes me to miss the bed post, and I hit my head against it instead. I could hear my father and the demon warlock laughing their heads off, while Gene looks equally as surprised as I am. They truly are evil.
"That was hilarious, oh my Irene!"
Once those two finally calm down, which takes a very long time, I ask them what the news really was.
"You are finally ready, my little shadow. Ready, for your quest,"
