Chapter 21- Secrets Come Out
Writer~San: . . . Hi. Lol let's just get to the next chapter.
.
.
(~Mutt's POV~)
My brother is reading the thermometer, while Y/N is tucked in bed. Sitting next to my mattress, Sans plainly states, "You don't just 'get' a 104 degree fever." (Writer~San: This temperature is meant for Fahrenheit. I'm not sure what it is in Celsius..... *looks it up* 40 degrees Celsius, there you go)
I'm shaking so much. Even if I try my hardest I can't keep my hands still, so I keep them slipped in my pockets. He continued, "I'm pretty sure it's poison. I've seen this happen to a few royal guards before." My heart drops.
'Poison..? WHeN waS ShE-....'
Sans looks at me with a stern gaze, demanding answers, "Did you leave her somewhere ALONE?" I shake my head, panicked, "N-No! I k-k-kept her by my s-side the entire time!"
"The human obviously consumed something she wasn't supposed to. Whether she did it just to end her life or someone forced her to take something." My head hurts trying to process this. I scanned over every event and memory, every moment that my attention wasn't fully on her.
'Slept at my station. Um.. Muffet's? She was on her own for a little while but nothing happened that caused alarm. The only people in Waterfall were me and her. NONE OF THIS IS MAKING SENSE!'
I start to claw at my head, "I-I don't u-understand! Where could it-"
'The chocolate.'
My eyes widen as it suddenly hits me, the dang chocolate.
(~Memory from Chapter 14~)
"A-Are you sure?"
Muffet has two of her hands on her hips, "It'll be fine. I made sure to grab a batch that wasn't poisoned."
(~End of Memory~)
'GOD DANG IT!'
She lied to me or it was a simple mistake... Either way, Muffet is 10 minutes away from having a bad time. . . Frustration fills my soul, not only at Muffet, but at myself.
'Why was I such an idiot?!'
Sans must've noticed my anger, he states, "You figured it out. What was it?" "I-I-I.." I stop myself.
'Should I tell him? He's going to be so mad. After all the nice memories we made today, it has to end like this... Life just can't give me a break, can it?'
"S-she had c-chocolate." I mumbled, hugging my knees. "Chocolate? We don't have chocolate here-" His eyes flame up furiously as he figures it out, "YOU WENT TO MUFFET'S, DIDN'T YOU?!" I flinch, shaking more from the tone of his voice. I try to explain myself, "S-She's m-m-m-my f-f-friend and-"
Sans cuts me off, abruptly standing up, "NO ONE is your friend! IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED! How many times do I have to keep explaining that to you?!! I put that collar on you for a reason Papyrus! As long as you have it and follow my orders, you are under my protection! The town knows that. But if you-.. If you go places behind my back without me knowing, I CAN'T PROTECT YOU!" I'm hiding my face at this point, expecting to get a beating right here, right now.
But nothing happened.
I look up, anxious and confused. Sans is breathing heavily, his pupils small, and tears are falling down his cheeks. He quickly turns away, but I'd already saw it. I hear him say, "Under my bed, there's a metal box. The Queen has every guard keep theirs stocked with medical supplies, soul stabilizers, and poison antidotes for emergency use. Go get it NOW. You put yourself and the human in danger, that guilt will be a suitable punishment.."
I hurriedly get up and rush out of my room to obey his directions. He's right, the guilt is harsh enough to snap my soul in half.
(~Time Skip~)
I'm situated on the corner of the bed, watching Y/N. Sans had done all he could. I could barely do anything. The hardest part was having to watch him force pills down her throat some time ago.
I feel horrible, waking him up for the second time today. Today is the worst day for him to be up. Sans really needs to sleep, I can clearly see that. However, now with this whole situation, he refuses to take a break. The entire afternoon, he's been running back and forth, replacing the damp rags on Y/N's head, and monitoring her temperature. Only good news is after a half an hour, the antidote started to work, and her fever finally broke.
'This poison has been in her system for at least 24 hours, which explains why it took so long for the medication to start working. If Sans didn't have it already, how long would she have lasted before...'
I revealed to Sans that I ate some of the chocolate too, even though Y/N had pretty much eaten most of it by herself. He didn't react, he just gave me a pair of pills and told me to take them. So I did..
(~Tiny Time Skip~)
We did go downstairs for a food break. To eat some of the pizza that we made, as a late lunch. It's actually really close to dinner time at this point. The pizza was good.
'I wish Y/N could try it.'
Throughout the day, Sans has gotten slower, more physically drained, but his motivation was still there.
'That's probably the only thing keeping him from passing out.'
He's done so much, I can imagine the stress he's dealing with. Watching him work is making me feel exhausted.
'I should've done this sooner but enough is enough.'
Right now, he's busy washing the rest of the dirty dishes from earlier. I pull Sans away from the sink and he shoves my arm away, "What are you doing?" . . . "B-Bro it's time t-to s-stop. I c-can handle it." Sans glares at me, "I'm fine. Leave me alone." I don't want to explain how I can tell he's lying. I just know, it's obvious. I grab his arm but firmer, "Sans, stop it." He whips around, smacking my arm, "LET GO OF ME!"
I don't let go, but instead, I pull him into a hug, "R-Rest, ok?" He fights me, weakly struggling to get out of my grip, "GET OFF! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'Re DoInG..?! . . ..THIs.. is.." I feel his body go limp, he finally wore himself out. He passed out.
I let out a huge sigh, "You c-can fuss m-m-me a-about it later." Standing up straight, I reposition him to get a better grip. Then, I go back upstairs. I walk into his room and gently pull back the blankets on his bed. Carefully, I lay him down, draping the blankets over him.
'I take too many breaks. He never lets himself have a break at all. What a coincidence.. At least now, he can finally get the rest he needs. Being exhausted is something he needs to stop ignoring. Admit it, I guess...'
.
.
.
'It is kinda our fault for waking him up though....'
After making sure he was comfortably tucked in, I go into my room to check on N/N. She's on my bed, unconscious still. Since the medicine took effect hours ago, she's looking much better. As I sit down, her breathing becomes staggered. I gently run my fingers through her hair, her head still feels pretty warm.
'Don't worry.. I'm here..'
She flinches at my touch and groans, but doesn't move much after that. I sit on the bed so I can pull her close to me, that's the only thing that can help my anxiety at this point. I can't say that I know what's going on in her head or if she'll be able to fully recover. Yet I do know one thing-
'Muffet better have a good freaking explanation.'
Writer~San: AHHHHHH- Somebody's in trouble, at least it ain't me. Do you think Muffet has an evil scheme going on? Was it a mistake of grabbing the wrong label? Or is there something BIGGER planned behind all of this??? Tell me your thoughts and theories, I would love to hear them! Who knows, time will tell and maybe your theory will be right. Anyway, hope you guys are doing well. Stay safe (with the pandemic and all)! 🖤
