Summary: Alena and Peter had a baby! And naturally, everyone's gushing over the little one, always talking about how cute the oldest Romanoff-Rogers' little daughter is. ,,Leni, do you really have to go home already?"
Anastasia asked her sister, who was about to get going since her 5 month old daughter began getting cranky. The 25 year old knelt down to the 11 year olds level, offering her a soft smile.
,,I'm not far, remember. Just 10 minutes by bus"
She explained, readjusting Elina after the 5 month old let out a noise of complaint. Anna frowned.
,,Why did you move out in the first place? Why can't you stay here with me and Daddy and Mama"
The young blonde murmured, her voice full of disappointment. She missed her big sister and ever since little Elina was born, she felt like she never saw her anymore.
Just before Alena could respond, Steve emerged from the door, coming home from a day at the compound. Once he saw that his elder daughter had come to visit with his granddaughter, his eyes lit up.
,,Hey light and hello, little sunny girl"
He greeted the mother daughter duo, bringing the former into a side hug before booping the latter on the nose. Elina burst into giggles, lighting up the room with her bright smile.
,,Hey dad. We were actually about to leave"
Alena smiled, bouncing her giggling child a little. Steve's smile fell and Anastasia began frowning again.
,,Awwe, that's too bad. Wanda gave me some Paprikash for dinner..."
He sighed, holding up the big container of the sokovian dish, knowing how much Alena enjoyed Wanda's cooking. And, just like predicted, the 25 year old sighed, defeated.
,,I guess we could stay for dinner, isn't that right, детка (baby)"
Alena agreed, followed by another of Elina's giggles. Apparently, the little girl wanted some Paprikash as well.
As soon as her big sister agreed to stay for dinner, Anastasia's grim expression lifted into a smile that resembled Elina's, just two times brighter. She loved having her sister over, especially after she moved out and wasn't around all the time anymore.
,,Yaaay, Mama, Leni is staying for dinner"
She cheered, running off to tell their mom. Alena looked after her, a quite worried expression falling over her face.
,,How's she doing? Mama told me she's acting a little different the other day"
The 25 year old asked, her baby blue eyes meeting those sue resembled so much. She knew that her sister was very dependent on their parents and had some mildly autistic traits, so not being the center of attention all the time wasn't exactly easy for the 11 year old.
,,She's asking about you a lot. I don't think she gets that you can't be around all the time because of Elina"
Steve sighed, his tone serious. He'd recognised the change in his youngest daughter's behaviour, but wasn't sure what to do to make it better.
Alena frowned. In a way, she felt guilty for moving out and starting her own family, considering that Anna loved her more than anyone.
,,Did you talk to her about it? I mean, did you sit down with her and tell her what it's gonna be like once Elina was born?"
She asked, raising an eyebrow. The 25 year olds mind was racing, trying to find the source for her sister's change in behaviour. After all, she was currently studying child psychology and this was her specialty.
,,Your mother told her about the new baby and that you weren't gonna be around all the time anymore, and as far as I know, she took it well, but after that, I guess we weren't able to focus on her all the time anymore either because Elina was born and all that"
The supersoldier explained, his eyes resting on the 5 month old girl, who looked at her granddad curiously. Alena nodded.
,,I'll talk to her after dinner. Maybe I'll do her bed time routine if you just watch Elina for the time being"
She offered, relocating Elina to her hip. Her dad nodded, before bringing her into a hug.
Ten minutes later, the family sat at the dinner table, enjoying Wanda's paprikash with some bread Natasha had baked the other day. The vibe was familiar and loving, telling each other about how life was going.
The only one who wasn't having fun was Anna. She pushed her food around on her plate, her eyes fixated on one piece of paprika, while her lips were pressed together tightly.
,,How's Peter doing, свет (light)? Is he back at MIT?"
Nat asked while running her fingers through Elina's messy brown waves. Alena smiled, swallowing the food she'd been chewing, before she answered:
,,Yea, he is. We're both at uni for half the day so Elina isn't home alone and we both get a lot of time with her. It's quite nice actually because I study children's behaviour at the moment for kids Anna's age so it's not all too far from reality"
Anna's head snapped up as she heard her name, her emerald eyes now fixated on her sister in great interest.
,,What do you talk about in child sy- psy-"
She asked, having trouble to pronounce the word. Alena put a gentle hand to her sister's shoulder, offering her a soft smile.
,,Well we talk about certain behaviours and what they could mean, so we can understand a child's mind a little better. For example, when a kid gets angry over something small, there's usually a bigger problem behind that"
The 25 year old explained, trying to make it easy to understand. Anna's eyes were wide with fascination, as her sister explained.
,,I wanna do that too"
She announced, looking around the room, before her eyes met the ones she resembled the most. Natasha smiled softly, giving a nod.
,,You've still got time to think about what exactly you wanna do later, милый (sweetie)"
The redhead retorted, before collecting the plates to get them to the kitchen. Anastasia frowned once more.
,,Daddy will you read me a story for bedtime?"
She then asked, looking at Steve expectantly. The supersoldier turned to his older daughter, giving her a look.
,,I'll read you a story, Anna. Mama and Dad are gonna watch Elina and I'll do your night time routine with you, okay?"
Alena smiled, thinking it would be nice for the two of them to spend some quality sister time together. Anna wasn't a fan though. Her lips curled into a frown as her eyes darkened.
,,No! I wanted Daddy to read me a story"
She suddenly burst out, slamming her hands onto the table with such force that the glasses on it shook violently. The 11 year old glared at everyone before she ran off to her room, slamming the door shut behind her.
Alena looked at her father, a mix of hurt and confusion. This wasn't like Anastasia at all.
,,I'll go talk to her"
She suggested, wanting to find out the reason for her little sister's outburst. Alena had never seen the 11 year old act like that, but she figured it probably had something to do with the past 5 months.
So, she went to knock on her little sister's door, only to be met with silence. The redhead let out a stifled sigh before she peered into the room.
Anna sat with her back turned to the door, playing with her toys while silently sobbing. It broke Alena's heart to see the 11 year old like that.
,,Anna?"
The sobbing stopped, replacing it with silence. The tension was thicker than it had ever been between the sisters.
Alena sat down next to the young blonde, observing her for a few moments.
,,You wanna tell me what's wrong?"
She then asked, her tone soft and comforting. The 25 year old knew that harsh words or blaming wouldn't help, so she tried being as gentle as possible.
,,You don't love me anymore. Mama and Daddy don't love me anymore, no one loves me anymore"
Anastasia blurted out, her voice breaking halfway through the sentence. Alena's brows furrowed in concern.
,,Wha- Anna what makes you think we don't love you??"
The latter inquired, placing a gentle hand on her sister's shoulder. Anna turned around, her glossy emerald eyes meeting her big sister's baby blue ones.
,,All you do is talk about stupid Elina. Ever since she was born, Mama and Daddy are always going on about how cute she is and how they're going over to yours so they can watch her. And you're never around anymore. You're too busy being a mom and you dont come visiting as often"
She rambled, all the words bubbling over faster than the blonde could comprehend them. It felt good to talk about how she was feeling, although she felt guilty for even thinking that way in the first place.
Alena listened patiently, before bringing the 11 year old into a hug. She had no idea she felt that way, even though the signs had been painfully obvious.
,,Конечно, мы все еще любим тебя, Анна. (Of course we still love you, Anna.) You know, Elina is still a baby so she needs a lot of attention, okay? That doesn't mean that anyone loves you any less, it just means I can't be around all the time anymore because she needs me"
She explained, her tone still gentle. Anna tightened her embrace around her sister's torso.
,,I need you too, Leni"
The 11 year old mumbled, looking up, her emerald eyes wide. She began to understand what had been going on, but still felt a little bit replaced.
Alena gave a small smile.
,,I'll tell you what. How about once a week, after school you come over and we spend some time together, just the two of us. We can do fun things or I'll just help you with your homework, okay?"
The redhead suggested, trying to erase the feeling of being replaced or neglected completely. She knew that kids Anna's age needed the reconfirmation of being needed or loved, so a girls day once in a while would probably do the trick.
Anastasia nodded, the brightness in her eyes slowly returning while her lips curled into a smile.
,,That would be really nice"
She whispered, before burying her face in her sister's shoulder. Alena hugged her tighter, before whispering:
,,Я люблю тебя, Анна. Никогда этого не забывай (I love you, Anna. Never forget that)"
,,Я тоже тебя люблю (I love you too)"
A/N: OHHHKAY, I'm finally done with this one. I know it has a lot of plot, but I hope it turned out the way I wanted it to.
Also, I know it's been really quiet on this book, but with school and the wrong number book, it gets really hard for me to finish two oneshots a week. It's probably gonna get better once the exam period is over, but I cant keep up 2 oneshots every week as of now.
I really hope you understand and aren't too sad about it, have a great day/night, stay amazing and I'll see you around <33
