Chapter 69 : Mansion

•Car Ride To New Home, 2 p.m.; Pennsylvania•

~Maddie's POV~

Mitch and I's eyes widened as Kevin drove towards a large iron gate guarding large modern styled homes.

"Connor, is this where you live?" Mitch whispered over to Connor who was sitting beside him.

"Yeah, cool isn't it?" Connor replied
with a smirk.

I couldn't believe it. Mom is engaged to a rich man? Wow,didn't see that coming.

"What does Kevin do again?" I whispered back to Connor.

"I don't know. I do know that he works in that hospital" Connor shrugged, pointing out the window towards tall building in the far distance.

I glanced over at Kevin in the drivers seat as he talked quietly to the gates guard.

You could never tell by his appearance that he was rich.

He was currently dressed in a causal t-shirt and a normal pair of jeans. No jewelry lining his chest nor wrists. I could be wrong but rich people usually wear something more expensive looking.

The guard made a hand gesture over to the man in the booth before the gates opened and Kevin drove through.

As he drove down the long road, we pasted multiple huge houses with large pools and even what looked like tennis courts in the back.

Could I even call these homes houses? More like mansions.

Mitch and I watched in awe as each mansion we pasted just got larger.

Finally, Kevin pulled into a huge, modern styled mansion; a second car parked in the driveway.

He turned off the engine as everyone unbuckled their seat belts and got out of the car.

As I got out slowly, I examined my surroundings.

The front of the house looked very well cared for from its green front lawn, well paved driveway and flowerbeds leading towards the front door.

The house itself was mostly made out of glass with the glass front door and windows.

Most of the houses, I mean mansions, looked the same; each with pools in the back and fresh green lawns in the front.

"Come on Maddie" Mitch called as he brushed past me; following after mom and Connor who were heading towards the front door.

I slammed the car door; Kevin handing me my things before we both made our way inside the house.

"Welcome to your new home guys" mom announced as she opened the door, leading us into the large open space of the front door area.

Mitch and I stepped inside slowly, looking around our surroundings in awe.

"Wow, this is huge" Mitch gasped turning around in a circle.

"I couldn't agree more" I breathed, looking down at the shiny marble flooring then up at the cream coloured high roof.

"I'm glad you two like it. This is the smallest house in the neighbourhood so I hope it's to your liking" Kevin added in quickly.

Smallest? I wouldn't want to see the biggest.

"Mitch, Maddie, let me show you guys around!" Connor cried excitedly as he tugged at Mitch's arm.

"I think I'll pass," I announced quickly, "kinda tried from the flight."

"Connor, how about I head up to my room, put down my stuff and then you can show me around" Mitch suggested.

"Yeah, okay" Connor agreed before turning to face mom, "can I show them to their rooms?"

"Yeah go ahead. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me" mom stated before disappearing down a long corridor beside the smooth wooden staircase leading to the second floor.

"I'll be in the living area if you guys need anything" Kevin affirmed before going into the room right beside the entrance of the corridor.

"Come on guys" Connor ordered, grabbing a bag from each of our hands and racing upstairs.

Mitch and I followed after him with the rest of our luggage.

As we made it onto the second floor, a series of paintings were hung on the wall. Most of them including inspirational messages and old photos that used to hang in our old house.

A thin smile spread across my lips. At least she didn't store away our family memories.

"Hey look, it's you Maddie!" Mitch pointed out.

I looked over to where Mitch was standing.

The picture hang on the lime green painted wall next to a picture of Mitch holding newborn Connor. It was of 7 year old me, holding a daisy from mothers flowerbed; dirt on my tiny hands and a mischievous smile spread across my face.

"Cute" I commented bitterly before turning away from the picture.

"Can you please show me to my room Connor?" I asked quickly.

"Yeah, it's right here" Connor informed, placing his hand on a white door further down the hall to the left.

I dragged my feet on the white carpet before opening the door to the room I was staying in for the next 4 days.

My mouth dropped in shock as I looked inside.

It looked like my old room in Montreal.

No way. No fucking way.

"Mom said she wanted to make you feel at home as best as she could . She did the same thing with everyone else's rooms" Connor explained as he stood next to me in the doorway.

"It's," I paused for a second as I swallowed my spit, "nice."

"I think it's really generous of Kevin to have our old furniture imported to Pennsylvania" Mitch smiled.

"Yeah, just great" I sighed sourly.

I swiftly turned around and faced the boys."I need my privacy."

"Then we are gone. Come on Mitch" Connor huffed, grabbing Mitch's suitcase and rolling it down the hall.

I grabbed my suitcases and pulled them inside the room as Mitch followed after Connor.

Closing the door behind them, I turned around and examined the room again.

Everything was the same. The bed, the nightstands, the dresser, my desk that I recorded on, the chair I swivelled around the room with. The only thing that was different was the posters that were hang on the walls, the things that stood on the dresser top, the bookshelf and the closet.

To my surprise, near my bed there was a double glass doors leading to a small baloney.

I walked over to the two doors and opened one before stepping out onto the small glass surrounding baloney.

The baloney overlooked the big pool, the clear blue water underneath me, the sun in my eyes.

Turning away from the bright rays of light, I walked back into my bedroom; closing the baloney door behind me.

There was also a small door that lead to my own personal bathroom.

Not bad, now to unpack and take a nap.
