Chapter 5

It’s cold, really cold. When I ran up here, I didn’t consider how cold it would be outside. Besides that, it’s pouring out here. I move my arms out of my sweatshirt sleeves and against my chest for warmth. Despite how cold it is outside, I don’t want to go back down. I don’t trust that guy, I don’t like that guy, I don’t even want to be near that guy. I don’t know who he is, so I have no reason to trust him. Yet, I do know one thing. That bastard sure is persistent.

“You can’t stay up there for long!”

I don’t know how long I’ve been up here. It could be hours, maybe days, I don’t know. I can tell it’s been a long time though because my legs are freezing cold. My whole body is cold and damp with the never-ending rain. My senses keeps telling me to go back down, but my feelings are yelling back “No”. But, if I stay up here, I might die of hypothermia. I have things to do as well, so I don’t have time to hang around up here and wait for the stranger to leave. I sigh, now knowing what I have to do. Forcefully, I put my arms back into my cold and wet sleeves, my body temperature dropping faster than before. It feels like my arms aren’t even there at all due to the cold. With my whole body shaking, I stand up and carefully climb back down the ladder that I installed a few months ago. I slowly go down each step, my body shaking uncontrollably from the weather.

“!”

Without realizing, I placed my foot on the wrong side of the step, causing me to slip. I scramble to grab a step of the ladder but my frozen fingers couldn’t reach it. With no support, I start falling. Falling off the ladder, falling from the roof, falling to my possible death. I close my eyes, thinking that the height of the fall could actually kill me when I felt something wrapped around my foot. I was falling too fast, so when my foot got caught, it pulled on it, causing it twist in an unusual way.

“!!”

I open my eyes to see the floor right above me…or below me. I avert my eyes to what caught my foot. It appears to be some rope that I forgot to put away. I try to lift up my body so I can loosen the rope, but it’s still shaking, and I can’t move too much without moving my twisted ankle. I can feel my spine shivering from the sharp pain. I can feel the blood flowing away from my foot and to my head. I just stay where I am and hope that something will bring me down.

I wake up to the sound of shuffling feet. It was more sounds than that though. There was something being dragged across the floor. I don’t know if it’s my body or not, because I can’t feel anything. My entire body feels numb; the only things I can move are my eyes. I look at my surroundings, trying to pinpoint what’s going on and where I am. It’s dark, but I don’t see any stars, so I’m inside. It’s cold yet warm, like your face is cold yet something else is warm, like your arms. I must be wrapped in something, probably a blanket of some sort. All right, so I’m wrapped in a blanket, I’m being dragged to some room or something, I don’t know. Where am I going, exactly? I stare up at the ceiling, my eyes focusing to the darkness. I recognize this ceiling…I actually recognize those walls. I recognize the tables and chairs. I’m still in the theatre, my home. Then…. who’s dragging me? I strain my eyes to get a better view of what’s in front of me, trying to decipher whom or what is taking me. All I could make out was light, short hair. It’s a little curly too. Curly…light…blonde…wait, blonde? Hold on, don’t tell me that the one who is dragging me was that guy who broke in!?

“Hm?”

He looked back at me, as if to check up on my condition or something. When he noticed I was staring at him, he just smiled.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you”

Then why the hell are you dragging me?

“If I carry you, I might make your ankle worse. So, I figured I should drag you instead”

…..Idiot. Everyone knows that with a twisted ankle, your not supposed to bring movement to it. Carrying me would be a great idea, yet I’ll feel awkward and scared. That’s probably one of the reasons why he’s dragging me. Still, this guy is an idiot and a coward. I don’t trust him at all.

“It’s ok if you don’t trust me. Who would trust a total stranger that broke into there home for a hiding spot? Certainly I wouldn’t.”

He keeps talking as if we were having a friendly conversation, but I’m not saying anything back. It’s like he’s desperately asking me to speak so that he won’t look crazy. He’s crazy already though, since he kept on talking until he carefully dragged me up the stairs and into my room. Wait…how did he know where my room is?

“While you were up there, freezing your ass off, I sorta took a tour around this place. I didn’t steal anything, promise”

There’s nothing to steal in the first place.

“So, I’m guessing this is your bed, right?”

He points to my small makeshift bed. I was able to make a small nod and then he grabbed the end of the blanket and pulled me onto the bed. He tucked me in afterwards. He’s acting like how a parent treats a child before bedtime. The parent will always tuck the child in bed so that the child could feel safe and warm. Then the parent would read them a story or sing them a lullaby, so the child can dream sweet dreams. Whenever the child has a nightmare, the parent is always there to make the child feel safe again. Like how mother would take me to the kitchen late at night so we can have a snack, or how she can makeup any story in her head and it’ll end up great, no matter how crazy the ending may seem.

“Ok..well, is there anything you need?”

I shake my head.

“Alright then. I’ll be downstairs if you need me”

He stands up and walks out of my room, closing the door behind him. What an idiot. He’s too defenseless and he’s willing to help out a total stranger, someone who doesn’t even say a word at that. Why is he doing this? Why isn’t he leaving? Why did he help me? Why isn’t he skeptical about me? Why is he such an idiot? With all the questions, thoughts, and memories flowing through my mind like a river, sleep somehow came over me. I start getting drowsy and bored of staring up at the ceiling. I figured that he wouldn’t try anything since he hasn’t so far, so I decided to close my eyes and go to sleep. My mind soon calming down, allowing me to have a peaceful slumber.
