In society, girls are constantly pitted against each other and competing with each other in practically everything we do. This causes a phenomenal of girls putting each other down or acting like they are above it all. This has brought on a very common phrase in wattpad books.

"I'm not like other girls"

This wasn't something I noticed straight away, I have been on wattpad for five years, I first downloaded it when I was 13, and I loved all the cringey teen fiction books that you do at that age. But recently I have been going back and re-reading some of the old books that I used to love and realising that they all have the same trait of having their main character be a person that goes against what a 'typical' girl is suppose to be like. They're most likely to be described as 'quirky', 'tomboyish' 'introverted'. They'd rather stay at home and watch Netflix for hours instead of going to a party with their friends.

This of course isn't a bad thing, however it becomes a bad thing when they bash on other girls in the process. It's very clique to have the antogonist of a teen fiction story to be the head cheerleader or the most popular girl in school. This girl is stereotyped to be tall, blonde, 'cake her face with makeup', be a slut and be a horrible person.
In our society, I don't believe it's healthy to have a positive correlation with being a bitchy girl and wearing makeup and being called a slut.

That just isn't right.

This would then lead to the main boy love interest saying to the main girl that she's 'not like other girls'. She's cool and different, not bitchy or obsessed with makeup.

This isn't right.
