Are teenagers more fast fashion conscious or is it a phase?

"Sustainability" and "eco conscious" are the biggest buzz words in our society today. It seems like over night all my favourite fashion influencers and you tubers suddenly really care about fast fashion and what it's doing to our planet.

This was a very new topic to me, but once I heard that it takes around 11,000 litres of water to make those cute oversized denim jackets from H&M I knew I had to make a change and do my part.

So I started shopping at my local charity shop for cheap used clothes and thrift stores such as rokit and beyond retro for some more expensive staple items. It felt like the best way to do my part to help the environment.

But with the way the world is going, it just seems like it's not doing anything to fix the planet, the same way changing from a plastic straw to a metal one doesn't feel that significant either.

Ever since tiktok has become a lot more mainstream, thrifted clothes feel like nothing more than a trend or the latest fashion aesthetic. It feels like a hollow achievement more than a worthwhile cause to try and fix the planet.

Of course this doesn't stop me from trying my best to stop shopping at fast fashion chains and keep to my charity shops. However, I sincerely hope this generation is the one to keep fighting and keep doing their part to try and fix the world and not let this merely become a trend.
