PROLOGUE

The bustling sound of the airport disappeared as the automatic doors shut, leaving Elizabeth to the bitter winter cold. The sky was littered with grey clouds, ready to unleash hell at any moment. The damp smell of the city hung heavily in the air, thickened by the humidity. She dragged her suitcase along the paved flooring by her side towards a taxi.

" Hello Miss, so where too then?" The taxi driver asked as she sat on the seat next to her case in the back. She closed the door and gave the driver her address. The Airport was around an hour drive from her Father's house, so it gave her time to think over everything that has happened in the last forty-eight hours.

How she got a call while at her job, saying her Father had been admitted into hospital after having a seizure in a shop. After a few tests the results came back. He had a tumour in his brain, the hospital is currently running tests. This will help understand his condition a lot more.

" So, what's taking you to Clayfield?" The driver asked glance in the rear view mirror.

" I'm here to look after my father." She told him while looking out the window watching the city drive by.

" I see. He's lucky to have you then." The driver said as Elizabeth nodded in agreement.

" Truth is I haven't seen him in five years." She said softly, "Things changed when my mother left him, She took me with her and I've not seen him since."

" I see. So what's changed?" The man asked curious.

" He's got a brain tumour. We don't know the extent of it but I'm his only child and he has no other family."

" I see, well he truly is fortunate to have you then." The driver said softly turning out if the city and onto the long road through the wilderness that will take them to Clayfield. The drive was quiet as Elizabeth watched the fir trees pass by.

The heavens opened and unleash relentless rain that pounded down onto the taxi. The window wipers worked overtime to keep vision of the road. It wasn't long before they passed a big white sign welcoming them into Clayfield.

Clayfield is a small town with only around 3000 residents. True to its name, Clayfield's lands are rich with high quality clay. This in turn attracts many tourist wanting visit where they make the finest clay objects in the world. Elizabeth was pulled from her thoughts when the taxi driver pulled up outside a small two story house. The paint-chipped white picket fence had seen better days and the front garden has not been tended to for a while.

" Here we go miss, I hope things get better for you." The taxi driver said with empathy as she paid him and left the cab. She stood on the side of the road looking at her childhood home, as the rain continued to pelt down. Her mind went back to a summer days many years ago when her dad and her would be playing on the front garden while her mother was sitting on the porch smiling.

Coming back to the present, she made her way up the old pathway to the front door. She knocked gently twice before pushing open the door to find the hallway unlit. She walked in and closed the door behind her and then placing her bags down against the wall. She switched on the hall light and discovered that everything was the exact same as the day she and her mother left. The same carpet, the same wallpaper, the same furniture. Even the same smell, but one thing that was gone was the homely feeling. The house felt empty.

" Dad?" Elizabeth called out as she walked down the hall and past the staircase to the back room. Once in the back room, Elizabeth found her Father sitting on an armchair sleeping. The chair was positioned to look out into the garden. His once well styled brown hair was graying and a mess. His handsome face, worn and wrinkled; both from stress and old age. He was skinnier but that was no doubt down the his tumour. She smiled softly and reached over to grab a blanket before placing it gently over him.

" I'm home Daddy." She whispered to him.
