Chapter 2

"Dad I'm home!" I yelled, as I kicked the front door closed behind me, while still holding onto the drinks in my hand. I turn to the living room thinking that I would see him there but he wasn't. Suddenly a movement from the right side of me catches my attention. Quickly, I turn my head to that direction and spy my dad closing the fridge with a beer bottle in his hands.

"What are you doing back so soon? I thought you were going to Lily's house?" I watched silently as he opens the bottle with an opener then preceded to take small sips of the beer and sigh.

"I was but there was a slight change of plans so she's coming here instead." He doesn't reply, although, I didn't expect him to do so much.

Instead, I watched as he walked right on past me to get to his chair in front of the television but then like he just remembered something he turned back around to me again.

"What happened to your shirt?" He questions, pointing at it confused.

"You really don't want to know." He nods his head before silently sitting down in front of the television turning it on flipping through the channels with the remote.

Sighing, I start walking upstairs to my room and laid the drinks on my dresser along with the bag before taking off my shirt.

I was glad I wore my black tank top underneath or else everyone would have seen my bra and Mark would have had a field day. Taking off the tank top that had also gotten slightly wet from the tea. I pull on a black hoodie knowing I wasn't leaving the house for the rest of the day until I at least tried to salvage my shirt.

Going to the washroom that was conveniently across from my room, I close the door behind me and throw my tank top into the dirty hamper then put my favorite shirt in the sink, trying to wash the stain out by hand. I got some of it off but my white shirt was now a light shade of pink, I groan. Well this is just great I swear if I ever see him again I will punch him in the throat.

"Anna?"

"I'm in here!" Lily waltzes into the bathroom stopping at the doorway, her hand on the knob as she took me in.

"What the hell happened? Sorry honey but that is a tragic case, you're gonna have to toss it. Oh and what's up with that guy I heard through the phone? He sounded really hot!" I roll my eyes. Leave it to Lily to get straight to the point and then some.

"Well first of all I know I can't take the stain off." I grab the shirt from the sink and throw it in the hamper to deal with later, before exiting the bathroom. She follows me to my room and shuts the door behind her before I continue again. "Second of all how can somebody sound hot? And lastly that guy you think "sounded so hot" bumped into me spilling you're god damn tea on me and making me drop my cookie!" I cross my arms.

"Oh my god you can't be serious? You're such a baby!" She looks at me with disbelief and amusement. "Oh and believe me when I say guys can sound hot because they can, especially with their morning voice that's just all types of..."

"Your point is?" She sighs.

"My point is, you're going to tell me everything that happened from when you first met him to now." She spies her drink and the bag and happily goes to it and brings it with her to my bed, making herself comfortable.

"And why should I?"

"Um because we never have boy talk unless you're telling me how ridiculous they are for even trying to talk to you? Because you had an encounter with a guy that is hot or at least sounds that way? Because-"

"Yeah okay I get the point," sighing away my frustration I agreed and told her what happened. Mostly I wanted to relieve my anger by talking about it and also because she won't stop bugging me about it and it'll just save me time.

When I was finished she was smiling ear to ear like a psychopath cradling her drink in her hands. She looked like an actual villain with how diabolical she looked at this instant. Kind of like that old lady with the red poison apple and I was the one that was going to be tricked instead of that Snow White chick.

"What? Why are you smiling at me like that? Seriously stop it you're starting to freak me out."

"Oh nothing.... But like seriously what if he's like your soul mate and you bumped into him? You literally bumped into fate." She nods her head assuringly.

"Please I hope I never see him again." Wanting to be done with the conversation I focus on her bag. "Anyways what'd you bring?"

Reaching for her bag she removes a couple of DVDs and lays them out on my bed so I can view them properly. Smiling I browse over the suggestions. "So which should we watch first, Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween?"

*************the next day************

"Oh I just had a brilliant idea!" I raise my eyebrow symbolizing that she should continue. "What if you meet him again here?" Lily screeches, already feeling giddy as she bounces up and down in her chair like a toddler.

"Meet him? You mean what if he rudely crashes into me splashing yet another beverage on me?" Lily, who is very painstakingly annoying over the coffee guy being my soulmate. Blinks away my comment as if I said nothing with her perfectly curled eyelashes.

"I'm choosing not to listen to what you just said because I'm in a fabulous mood... But what if you guys see each other again? Here! Again! It would be like total fate and this time you won't be able to deny it." She wiggles her eyebrows. "So you think he might be here today?"

"Highly unlikely." I snort, already wanting to leave this place. We were sitting at a table in the corner next to the bathroom at Starbucks since all the other tables and seats were taken. We had already grabbed our beverages and decided to drink it here before heading over to Barnes and nobles.

"You never know..." Just then there's a ding coming from somewhere behind me. Probably another customer, they've had that bell up there for a few months and boy was it unnecessary with people coming in and out every second.

"Holy crap! Don't look now but a guy just walked in and he is what you call muy fuego." I lift my brow. Staring pointedly at her for trying to speak Spanish when we both know she failed after only a semester because she was absolutely horrible. Either way she doesn't notice because she was way too busy trying to check out the boy who just came in.

"I think he was the new guy who transferred to our school for like the last two months before school ended..." I shrugged not bothering to turn around to see who it was.

I barely paid attention to anything in school, well people in general, so I wouldn't know who would be stupid enough to move into this town.

"He's looking over here! Quick how do I look?" I watch as she runs her fingers through her hair as if trying to comb out tangles that weren't there to begin with.

Unlike me, Lily always had semi wavy hair which works for her, while I had this naturally straight hair that was impossible to do anything with.

Really it was! I can't curl my hair even if I wanted to (which I never do anyways so it doesn't necessarily matter), because either way my hair goes straight by the end of the day no matter how much hair spray I put on or various products I put on.

"You look fine." She visibly widens her eyes and looks at me.

"He's coming quick act cool." I roll my eyes at her as I take a sip of my passion tea waiting for her to go all googoo eyed for this guy.

"Um Annabeth?" I almost choke on my tea, it can't be... No it can't. I slowly feel myself turn around but I already know it was him before I could even get an actual good look on his face. Well shit in the words of Lily, 'be cool.'

"Well if it isn't stalker boy! What came by to see if I was here to spill more tea on me? Or may I interest you in some coffee this time?" I tilt my head to the side my eyebrow involuntarily lifting as I ask the question.

"Um no actually-"

"Wait... How did you know my name? I didn't tell you, that's for sure." Through my glare I watch as he scratches the back of his neck, his ears starting to grow a faint pink.

"Um well...."

"'Um well' I'm waiting." I hear Lily clear her throat behind me. I turn my head to her watching as she shakes her head at me giving me the 'quit being mean' look. It's a look I get more often than I expect. I shrug at her before focusing my attention back at tea guy.

"I asked my friend and he told me." I nod my head it was probably Mark or one of the morons he hangs out with. "So Annabeth..."

"What?" He scratches the back of his neck and runs his hand through his hair.

"Do you want to hang out or something? I mean... If you're not busy or anything..." I look at him then at Lily who's bobbing her head up and down motioning me to go.

"No I'm with my best friend." His eyebrows rise up in surprise before looking over at Lily like he just realized she was even there. "You can leave now."

"Sorry I didn't mean to impose. Well how about next time then? I mean only if you want too, I mean." I stand up, grabbing my tea then look over at Lily.

"Let's go. This is starting to get sad." She nods before grabbing her tea and heading over to the door expecting me to be close behind. However I stayed behind and took a deep shaky breath before turning back around to face the still no named stranger.

"Okay." His brow furrows in confusion which only made me roll my eyes. "I mean okay next time." His brows shoot up in surprise. I clear my throat, suddenly feeling a bit stupid for doing this. "Well I do remember you saying you owe me right? Since you know..." He nods his head, grinning.

"Yeah I know.  So how about tomorrow at two? Or you know whatever you want I don't want to push-" I hold my hand up.

"Two is fine I'll see you tomorrow." I quickly turn around avoiding Lily's shocked face as I walk past her to get the hell out of there before taking it back.

Lily continued to remain quiet the entire ride over to Barnes and Nobles and I knew she would explode at any minute I just hoped she wouldn't do it when we were there.

As soon as we entered the building the distinct smell of black on white fills my nose. To me, Barnes and Nobles had felt like a second home.
The workers recognized me, giving me a quick wave before returning back to work.

I go straight to the escalators riding it down then getting off going straight to the Young Adult section. Once I found a book I liked, I walk over to the romance section going through the books making sure I got the right one.

Yeah I'm kind of a huge sucker for romance (any kind, if it has romance I'll read it). It's funny really because I had absolutely no romance in real life and I did my best to steer clear of any kind.

"Anna! What the heck was that! You got a date!" She smiles before poking the side of my stomach.

"Stop you know I hate it when you do that! And it's not a date." I glare at her.

"Oh pa-leaase! You have a little coffee date which is gonna be an actual date-date then you'll be official in no time!" I roll my eyes before going back to searching for a book. "Well he sure was interested..." She trails off.

"No he wasn't."

"Heck yeah he was! Oh my God this is so cute! I'm watching fate destine two souls together!" Lily squeals loudly. I look around the area, knowing for sure that people had to be staring at us. They were.

Grabbing a random book from the shelf I rush towards the escalators with Lily trailing closely behind me. "You know you're really such a dreamer."

"And you're such a romantic even though you'll never admit it!" She sticks her tongue out at me.

"Oh I'm sorry how old are you again? Besides I'm not a romantic... I'm just into reading how other people interpret love." I scoff.

Stepping out of the escalators I turn to the right, towards the cashier registers. Lily and I, are drawing too much attention and I wanted no part of it. "Next in line please!" We move up one, right behind some guy with a comic book in his hand.

"Yes you are. Anyways we have to see what you can wear for tomorrow, I'll bring over some clothes-" I pause.

I turn towards her confused, "wait, what the hell is wrong with my clothes?"

"They're practically all black."

"Next in line!"

"I have other colors too you know I'll just wear something colorful but I don't know why I have to get dressed up just to get a cup of coffee. Besides I don't know why I have to get dressed up in the first place."

"Because you're getting a cup of coffee with a hot guy that's why!" I watch as the comic book guy gets his change then walks away. Without needing to be called I start walking over to the cashier and pay all the while, having a small conversation with the cashier before leaving.

"This isn't a date and I seriously don't think you can even call it one since I don't even know the guys name."

"But he knows your name!"

"Then again everyone does." I watch as she tries to come up with a logical answer for calling this so called coffee get together a date but see her eventually come up with nothing. And then something...

"Then why did you agree?"

To this I stay quiet because I simply had nothing to say as to why I did what I did. I was at a loss for words as she was moments ago. I didn't even think I just did it and it wasn't something I normally do, at least not anymore.

I know now that if I say something it has to be honest even if what I say is harsh. But there's also the fact that whatever I said also had to be a lie... Who knew I was so complicated, even for myself to understand. "I don't know," I finally answer.

Once we finally got to my house Lily went through my entire closet before finding the 'perfect outfit'.

As soon as she left I put the clothes away before heading downstairs to make dinner. All the while trying to come up with something that made sense over why I did what I did. It wasn't something I usually did especially if it involved someone from the opposite gender.

Why would I agree to go get a cup of coffee with a stranger who poured hot tea on me?

Setting two plates down on the opposite ends of the table I align the utensils before calling on my dad. He comes in without a word and sits down on his chair then begins eating as he usually does.

If I was so stuck on the change of action and attitude I had today I at least had my dad to suck me back into the usual vortex of what was once unwelcoming silence to a very welcoming one.

I mentally sigh as I pull out my own chair across the table from him and sit down to eat as well, not bothering in trying to make some sort of conversation with him. Instead I just let the sounds of forks scraping the plates fill the room.
