Chapter 16
"That was a close one."
"Your kidding right?" I stare at Lily pointedly. "Well for one he knows about my past-"
"I beg a differ!" She sits up, pointing her finger at me. "He doesn't know your entire past he only knows the basics."
"Which was me getting into trouble."
"Well yeah but he even told you last night he doesn't know what's real or not!"
I was pacing back and fourth in my room talking to Lily about yesterday. It was a close call and I do not want to relive that moment in the near future one bit.
"Yes but little miss whine a lot Mickey sure let him have an ear full of some of the shit I did and who knows what Mark has told him." I roll my eyes.
"Mark isn't stupid." I raise my brow at her. "Okay he isn't that stupid." I keep my brow up. "Oh! You know what I mean!"
I sigh. "I know. But Lily from now on we have to watch ourselves." She nods curtly. "And we have to teach you to come up with better diversions."
"Hey I was in the spot! What was I supposed to do?" I plop into beside her in my bed. "You know you could always tell him..."
"Your joking."
"What! He's gonna find out sooner or later, why not just tell him now?"
I open my mouth to answer but Nathan suddenly barges into the room followed by Christian.
"Ever heard of knocking?"
"Nope!" Christian lifts Lily off the bed, throwing her over his shoulder.
"What in the living..."
"Your turn!" I look up at Nathan right on time as he bends down towards me.
"Pick me up and I will cut you." He lifts up his hands in surrender. "Good boy."
"Let me down!"
"Never!"
"Anna!"
"Christian let her down." He shakes his head.
"Well I tried." I shrug my shoulders. "What are you guys doing here?"
"We're going out!"

And that's how I ended up at the hill where Nathan and I had our first kiss.
Christian and Nathan were getting started on the fire while the girls were in the car watching Netflix. Rebecca was also with us. She acted as the getaway driver while Christian and Nathan went into my house to get us. They wanted to get in and out as quick as possible for fun. But that didn't happen because well it's me.
"I'm craving s'mores and I swear if they don't get that fire started I'm going to kill them."
"Wow." I stare at Lily astonished. "Your turning into me more and more each day." I wipe a fake tear.
"Oh shut up." She holds back her smile but fails. "I just want s'mores!"
"Same here I was the one that told them about how we should all have a bonfire one day and make s'mores and the next thing I know we were on our way to your place."
The car door opens suddenly. "Come on the fires ready!"
I turn to Lily. "Guess you don't have to kill them now."
"Oh darn I was really looking forward to that."
The sun was already setting and it was starting to get chilly outside. They had brought blankets in case the fire couldn't keep us warm enough.
I sit by Lily in one of the chairs they brought and happily take a stick from Christian and grab a marshmallow from my bag.
"You know it's been a while since I've done a bonfire."
I turn to Lily. "You went to one last week with your family."
"Still a long time." Rebecca's laughs. "Please last time we had a bonfire was a year ago." Nathan plops down next to me handing me the box of crackers.
Each of us already had our own king size Hershey bars and our own bag of marshmallows. Now I have my very on box of crackers.
"What about you?" I was too busy sticking in a marshmallow on my stick before I realized the question was directed towards me.
"Oh! Um..." I stick the marshmallow in the fire to avoid eye contact.
I shrug my shoulders nonchalantly. "Must be about three years almost four..."
"Your joking! That's way too long!" I clear my throat, removing the marshmallow from the fire I quickly blow out the flames.
"How do you even know it's been that long? Your probably exaggerating the years." I stick the marshmallow on a cracker and add in the chocolate.
"No its been that long..." I look up to see them staring at me bewildered. All except for Lily who flashes a tiny smile at me before looking away. "Hey we should all go bowling one day!"
"Ew wearing shoes that other people have worn? No thank you!"
"Oh come on it's not that bad-" I turn to Lily grateful for that quick save and take a bite out of my s'more.
God this is too good!
I turn to Nathan giddy with excitement only to find him staring between Lily and me. Well there goes the conversation we had earlier. I look away and focus on the conversation at hand to avoid Nathan's scrutinizing stare.
"Party? Yeah good luck with that." Lily snorts.
"What?" Lily turns to me, her arms crossed over her chest. "Rebecca and Christian said we should all go to a party. I told them you don't do parties. They think I'm lying."
I turn to them with an eyebrow raised. "She's right I don't."
"Told you! I've been trying to get her to go to one for years!"
Rebecca shakes her head. "Well we can be very persistent."
"Try all you want but I don't do parties."
"Why not?" I look at Nathan in question. Now he wants to talk?
"Not my scene."
"Your kidding! Mickey said you used to host parties at some warehouse. Well we're in!" Christian smirks.
"You need a key to get in, everything is locked shut." He stays quiet. "Well someone has to have a key." I shake my head.
"Oh well so much for that." We stay quiet for a few minutes as we munch on our s'mores. "Wait a minute." We all glance up at Rebecca. "Then how did you get in?"
"Good question."
"They had the key. Not me." I turn to Lily.
She immediately stands up. "I have to pee."
"Um... Thanks for sharing." Christian holds back his laughter. I stand up. "Come on I'll take you." I set the food down and lead Lily away from the others.
"My past is gonna bite me in the ass."
She shakes her head. "Their just asking simple questions. Your past is not going to bite you in the ass."
I stop walking when I know they won't hear us. "Right cause we weren't just talking about parties and the warehouse and that god damn key I had to bring up." I was kicking myself for saying that in my head earlier. Damn key.
"Okay we just have to veer the conversation away from all that." She pauses. "Want me to fake diarrhea?"
I laugh. "No that's fine."
"Good it'll save me a lot of embarrassment!"
"We'll just say you have a rash." She glares at me.
I couldn't help but laugh some more. "Come on let's go back." She nods. "Yeah by now they probably do think I have diarrhea." I smirk.
"Maybe."
__
They ran out of gas.
Totally genius of them to not fill up the gas before planning the trip to the hills then back.
We were just singing in the car- well they were- when we ran out of gas. We barely got to pull the car over before it completely died. The only good thing about this was that we weren't far from my house.
"Alright I'll be right back." I turn at my heel and leave them waiting in the car as I take off to my house.
The plan was for me to bring the plastic gas tank and fill it up at the gas station then bring it back so they could fill up their car.
"I'll go with you." Nathan quickly jogs to my side. "Okay, we'll take the short cut."
"WATCH OUT FOR YOU KNOW WHO!" Lily yells from inside the car. I turn around.
"Well do!"
"Watch out for who?" I turn back around and walk to the end of the corner. "Hopefully you won't find out." I cross the street after looking both ways and continue walking the path to my house.
We continue walking for a bit until we finally reach the alley entrance. I grab Nathan's hand before he could walk past it. "Come on in here."
"What trying to seduce me?" I scoff.
"Dream on."
"Oh I will." I shake my head and quickly walk towards the end of the alley. I always hated walking here late at night but it was the quickest way to my house and I'm one lazy mother fucker sometimes.
I hear a bottle roll on the floor nearby. We weren't even halfway to the end of the alley when he came out of the shadows with his friends. This always felt like the longest alley way ever. Maybe it was because of them.
I didn't even have to look into their eyes to know they were drinking. I could smell them all the way from here.
"Oh! There's my girl!" He walks slowly to me. Slightly swaying. "I was wondering when you would sssshow." He slurred.
"Fuck off." I continue walking forward gripping Nathan's hand and pull him with me.
"I'd fuck you anytime." They start agreeing with him. Some even whistling at me.
"Oh really? Seeing that you already fucked up your life and everything in it I thought there wasn't anything else to fuck up." I feel Nathan grip my hand harder and tug me forward but I was too pissed to move.
"She's a feisty one. They were right about that." One of his friends slurred. He sounded way too familiar.
"Gary I suggest you go home to your wife and kids before I tell her where you've been for the past few hours." I take a step forward, tugging back my hand from Nathan. "And you know she won't like what I have to say."
I see him take a step back. "Gary- what- what do you think your going?"
"I just got her back I ain't los-losing her again!" He takes off, only stumbling a few times.
"And for the rest of you..." The rest of the guys turn away and leave us behind. "Hey! Where are you guys going? The-the partysss just begun!"
"Come on Nathan." I grab his hand and lead him to the end of the alley.
"You bitch!" Nathan stops and turns around to him so fast I didn't see it coming. "Don't." I grab his arm.
"Don't call her a bitch again!"
"Oooo I'm so sssscared!" He laughs, hiccuping.
"Let's go, they're waiting for us." I pull Nathan to the end of the alley. Ignoring the comments thrown our way, we finally leave the alley and continue making our way to my house.
Once we finally make it I go to the garage and grab the plastic gas tank and throw it in the backseat of my car.
"I don't want you going through that alley ever again." I look up at Nathan.
"What? Oh come on he's a joke, he won't do jack shi-"
"Do you hear me?" I lift my eyebrow at him slightly stunned that he even rose his voice. He never does.
"Okay fine. I don't know what your so worried about." He shakes his head silently. "He's bad news. I don't want you near him. Ever..." He pauses. "Especially if your alone."
"Okay you have my word."
__
After getting them their gas we watched a little TV in my house before they finally called it a night and left.
Nathan of course gave me a chocolate rose they had at the gas station since he forgot to buy me a flower and all the flower shops were closed this late at night.
I told him he was technically cheating but he only shrugged and said, "it's a shape of a rose for all you know I'm blind as a bat and grabbed what I thought was a real one."
He's such an idiot.
Lily stayed over the night. No surprise there. Christian had to carry her to my room since she knocked out in my couch.
I sigh as I stare down at Lily's figure, sprawled out in my bed taking up every inch of it.
It's never too late for a prank. I smile to myself.
Maybe this night wasn't completely bad.
