Meeting the Mentors
I pulled on my green masked and tightened my belt. I grabbed my bow and a quiver full of arrows and headed out the window to avoid being seen. The harsh wind stung my face like tiny needles. Great just great out of all the days it decided to storm it had to be today... I jumped from my second story window and ran into the night.
So far nothing. I looked around and suddenly a loud sound of breaking glass filled my ears. I heard a scream, then an amused laugh. Swiftly, I made my move, pulling out a rope attached arrow and shooting it into the side of a green building below. I had to move quick, using my bow I slid down the rope and managed to kick some crook in the face. I smirked in satisfaction, until I seen two more advancing towards me, in the back I could make out two figures, a young mother and a small scared looking child. Both had looks of pure terror an their faces.
"What are you going to do with that toy?" The first crook looked at me with distaste. He looked about 28 with dirty, very dirty, blonde hair and hateful blue eyes. He smirked a my showing stained yellow teeth, with a few missing my the way, a smelled like he hadn't showered in a century. He motioned to my bow which was gripped tightly in my hand. "What are you supposed to be, Green Arrow?" He snickered and walked a bit closer. "If you haven't noticed, we actually have real weapons." He motioned to his gun. Does this guy think I'm stupid? Cleary, I know what a gun is. Also I know that he doesn't stand a chance. "so do yourself a favor and go home to your mommy, girly" He raised the gun a me, but I already had my arrow ready to launch into his stupid head.
This guy is soooo going to get it
Almost by instinct, my fingers slid from the bow string right at I turned my bow upwards. My arrow hit dead center in the light chain above us, making him snicker. "I think you missed girly, try for a better aim next time.
I lowered my bow and took a few steps back, knowing the hostages would be safe, I motioned, with my head, for them to go. The mother gave me a grateful smile and scooped up her son, disappearing out of the room. The chain of the light snapped sending it crashing into the blonde's partner, who yelled out just as it hit him.
Just as planned
The blonde turned to his partner, who pointed a me, I wasted to time. As the man turned to shoot me, I brought my arrow and swung it up, crashing it under his chin, and pushing his head up. He groaned and went to punch, but I was too quick and send my foot colliding with hit gut, sending him to the ground coughing. I took his gun and smirked down at him. Suddenly, red and blue lights flashed through the windows.
He looked up and me once more "oh goody, the cops are here, and you are going to go with us" I brought my foot down and kicked him in the back of the head, knocking him out. He hit the ground with a thunk.
I ran up the stairs and jumped onto the neighboring roof top as the cops swarmed the house and dragged out the men. The one that had been crushed by the light was screaming about an arrow girl dressed in green. Me, of course, but I wasn't a bad guy, or at least I didn't think of myself as one. I shook my head and told myself. Just because everyone else formerly or currently in the house was or is an assassin does not mean I'll be one too.
My long, blonde, hair blew behind me as my boots hit against the pavement, returning home. I snuck in my window and slipped off my mask, right as my mother called my name from the living room. Cursing under my breath because I had yet to change out of my vigilante uniform, I grabbed my blue robe and slipped it on hoping to conceal my hero uniform.
"what do you need mom?" I asked as I walked down our pale blue painted hallway, approaching the living room. Before I entered I made sure my robe was covering all my green. "I was in the middle of a good-" That's when I saw them, stopping dead with my statement, I turned my attention to the two men sitting on my couch. My jaw wanted to drop, but I kept my cool because sitting there on the couch was no other than Batman and Green Arrow.
"Artemis Crock" It was Batman who spoke, he looked at me with his white covered eyes. "We know what you have been up to" He spoke almost with no emotion at all, keeping his gaze on me.
What? He CAN'T know, how would they know? It wasn't like I was breaking any laws or anything!
I narrowed my eyes at him "I have no idea what you're talking about. Why are you even here?" I asked, keeping my voice steady and meeting his gaze eyes to eyes or mask.
"Artemis" My mother looked up at me, her brown eyes pleading. "They already know, please don't argue with them"
"W-what? How?" I shook my head. Is she turning me in? What's going on? My hand dropped from holding the string from my robe, revealing my outfit. My gazed traveled back to the two heroes on the couch. I was feeling a bit nervous, not that I would ever show it. There were two high up heroes in my house, sitting on my couch, telling me they knew what I was doing when I went out to be a hero.
Batman spoke once again "Last week, our protégés found this in the middle of a battle. We did a test and it all came back on you" Green Arrow took out one of my arrows out of his quiver. "would you care to explain?"
I remembered that arrow. How I stumbled upon a group of kids fighting some sort of robot with all of the Justice Leagues powers. I remember seeing Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad along with two heroes I had never seen before. I green skinned, red haired girl, that I think it probably the Martian's apprentice and a good looking, black haired boy, wearing Superman's signature "S" I can guess that's Superman's apprentice, funny he could of passed for his son. I had shot the arrow only because it was needed.
I stood proudly, holding me ground. "Without my help, the one known as Kid Flash would be dead. The robot, I assume, was using Superman's strength to crush him. So in shooting my arrows, the robot, turned invisible, which enable Kid Flash to escape, Thus, saving his life" I stated.
Both heroes exchanged looks and then turned back to me, but before they could speak, I spoke once more. "nothing you say is going to stop me from what I'm doing, I'm saving people and actually doing some good. I don't care if your hero rules are being broken. The way I see it I'm doing more good than bad, and that's more than I can say for half of my family" I crossed my arms, as Green Arrow gave a chuckle and walked over to me, placing a gloved had on my shoulder, making me look up at him.
"I know you're not going to stop, that's why I've come to ask you to be my protégé" He said with a smile and for once I was at a lost for words. My mom gave an encouraging nod and slowly I nodded my head, accepting his offer. Little did I know my life was about to change forever.
