Hello everyone! It's me eeveelover416 and recently I've been seeing that people are constantly referring to the members of the hetalia fandom as "weaboos." And I'm very confused by this...
So I did some research, and pulled the definition of a Weaboo of of the urban slang dictionary. The definition I got was:
"A person obsessed with Japanese culture."

And that made me a little skeptical and I found myself thinking but that could apply to anyone, and I haven't met any of these "hetafags" everyone's talking about...

So I decided to solve this mystery myself and dig in a little deeper.

And she talked about the so called "hetafags" and "hetaboos" and how people were leaving the fandom because of them.

Her description of these "hetafags" was that they kept shoving their ships at people, being ignorant and rude, and calling them "weaboos."
But to be completely honest... That's not entirely uncommon in most fandoms outside of hetalia as well.
Once again the definition of a Weaboo is someone who is obsessed with Japanese culture.

Now from the info I've read about these "hetaboos" what most common traits have come up are.

•aggressive/obsessive shipping
•forcive opinions.
•and attacking other ships

•aggressive shipping
•Pretending/believing that they are Japanese
•spending a lot of money on merch
•and obsessing over a certain fandom/fandoms.
•considers themself an 'otaku'

Now some of the traits are similar to the stereotypical "hetaboos"
But there's one thing...
This could really apply to a lot of people, not just the Hetalia fandom...

I've noticed activity like this in many other fandoms, such as Attack on Titan, and my friend has complained to me about this with the homestuck fandom as well.

Now I'm not saying that everyone in these fandoms are weaboos. I'm just pointing out that it's not just Hetalia...

To be honest, these traits could apply to anyone, not just in the anime fandom, but outside it as well.

So I guess my point is that... The Hetalia fandom can get a little aggressive, but that doesn't mean you have to leave the fandom in disgust and label everyone off as weaboos.

I'm not a Weaboo. My friends not a Weaboo, we're part of the Hetalia fandom.
Don't give up on a fandom just because there are a few assholes going around and slapping their ships in your face. There are good people in the Hetalia fandom, as there are in a lot of fandoms.
Show the rest of the fandom that there's still a chance to prove ourselves.

Also, don't call someone a faggot just because their a hetaboo. Calling someone a Hetafag is a little harsh...
Every fandom has its pitfalls.

Back in the past when if was really big into the AOT fandom I saw how powerful the Erei fanbase was in terms of shipping... The author of one of my favorite dare books had to cut off her story because she was sick of people being like "NUUUU EREI!!!"
Let's just not be so forceful ok...

The anime fandom is somewhere where we're supposed to be able to be accepted and have fun. Let's not ruin that :)
Let's not refer to each other as faggots or weaboos, let's just be anime fans, cause that's what we are ^^
