Coming Out

I still have yet to come out completely. But I believe you're never truly out. You have to come out to everybody at least once. So... Yeah.

If you are to come out, don't be afraid. Be confident. This is the true you, don't be ashamed to show your true colors. But do something that goes along with your personality. If your laid-back, funny, make a joke of it. Make it funny. But do it so that they know you're being serious.

And if you're the kind of person who is stern, straight to the point, be straight to the point. Make an appointment if you want. Come out over the stew your mom made for dinner. "Hey, mom, dad. I need to tell you something important tonight at 6:15 p.m. over dinner."

And there's the everlasting question that stabs your mind like a sticker in your foot.

What if they don't accept me?

Be prepared for the worst. Even if it doesn't happen, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Before you come out to your parents, come out to a friend or someone who doesn't live with you. Someone you can trust. Make sure you have somewhere to go if you're tossed out. Do research about the shelters in your community. (Red cross, dahdahdah. You get it.)

And pack a bag. Clothes, a little a bit of food, water, toothbrush, toothpaste, medication (if you take any) money, etc. Stuff you need. Make sure to take your phone, if you have one.

Make sure you have someone to lean on.

Be careful out there, guys. I love you.
